The Development and Effectiveness of a Therapy Competency Enhancement Program for Novice Play-therapists Using Traditional Play (전통놀이를 활용한 초보놀이치료자 치료역량강화 프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is, first, to develop a Therapy Competency Enhancement Program for Novice Play-therapists Using Traditional Play to enhance therapy Competency and second, to examine the program's effectiveness. The program consists of 10 sessions and each session employs a variety of traditional plays. The Therapeutic relationship Scale and Playfulness Scale were used as a pre-test and post-test respectively. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 18.0 program, which applied the Mann-Whiteney U test and Wilcoxon rank sum test. Twelve novice play therapists participated in ten sessions of the Therapy Competency Enhancement Program, and were compared with the control group of twelve novice play therapists who did not receive treatment. The treatment group statistically showed significant enhancement in therapeutic relationships, and playfulness in comparison to the control group. It was concluded that the Therapy Competency Enhancement Program for Novice Play-therapists Using Traditional Play was effective for enhancing therapeutic relationships and playfulness. This study has significance in its attempt to develop a Therapy Competency Enhancement program to improve the therapeutic relationship, and playfulness of novice play therapists by Traditional Play.

The Effects of a 『Traditional Play Program』 on a Child's Self-Esteem and Social Competency in a Community Child Center (『전래놀이 프로그램』이 지역아동센터 아동의 자아존중감과 사회적 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to confirm the usefulness of a "Traditional Play Program" in a self-esteem and social competency enrichment program at a Community Child Center. The subjects of this research comprised 12 children attending L Community Child Center in M city and participated in a "Traditional Play Program" for each 70minutes every week through total 10 sessions running from July 28th to September 29th in 2014. The collected data were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney & Wilcoxon test as non-parametric test, in addition to the progressive recording method for behavior observation. The results of this study indicate that a "Traditional Play Program" enriches the self-esteem and social competence of children who gets more vigorous activity sociality initiative respectively, and proves the usefulness for a Community Child Center.

  • To examine the effect of traditional outdoor play on children's emotional intelligence, the effectiveness of the traditional outdoor play program was evaluated in the kindergarten. Participants were 44 kindergartners randomly divided into two groups: experimental group and control group. The activities of traditional outdoor play were carried out twice in a week in the experimental group, and only the regular activities of kindergarten program in the control group for 12 consecutive weeks. The data were analyzed by paired t-test, independent t-test. Major findings are as follows: First, the program affected on the children's emotional recognition and expression about the self identity and importance, while there were no significant differences in the children's emotional regulation and self-motivation. Second, traditional outdoor play program affected on the children's emotional recognition and empathy in others, relationship and social skill significantly. These results showed that educational and funny traditional outdoor play contributes to children's emotional intelligence and development.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the Traditional Play-centered Obesity Control Cooperative Learning Program based on the cooperative learning theory on obesity rate, physical fitness, self-esteem, and body image specifically in obese elementary school children. Methods: The research design for this study was based on a non- equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted from September, 5 to November 30, 2012. The subjects included 74 obese children ($Exp.=25^{(a)}$, $Com.=24^{(b)}$, $Cont.=25^{(c)}$) with an obesity rate above 20% at an elementary school in G City. Data analysis was performed using SPSS/WIN 18.0, using Chi-square test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe test. Results: The obesity rate (F=4.033, p<.022) in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the group (Com, Cont), in which the Traditional Play-Centered Obesity Control Cooperative Learning Program was not implemented. Self-esteem (F=4.310, p<.017) also caused significant differences.   • In order to determine the effect of Korean traditional play on young children's social competence and resilience, 44 children were used in a study in the Korean traditional play program. The program was held 2 times per week for 7 weeks and was divided into control group and experimental group. The study found that there was a significant difference in children's social competence between the experimental group that executed Korean traditional play in comparison to the ordinary outside play group. There was a significant difference statistically in the sub-factors of social abilities of scrupulosity, cooperation and sociability; it found that Korean traditional play had a greater positive influence on children's social skills in contrast to ordinary outside play. Also results showed that there was a significant difference in resilience between the experimental group that executed Korean traditional play and the experimental group that executed ordinary outside play. This shows there is a positive effect in the increase in resilience from Korean traditional play on young children. However this study found that there was a significant difference in only resilience sub-factors of the ability to control emotions and there was no significant difference in the ability to control impulse, optimism, and problem solving ability, empathy skill, efficacy and active participation to challenges. In other words, Korean traditional plays had a positive effect on a sub-factor of young children's social competence and resilience, emotional control.

A Study on Preferences about Play, Laughing Activity, Digital Game in Elementary School Students (초등학생들의 놀이, 웃음활동, 디지털 게임의 선호도 실태 고찰)

  • This study was conducted to construct a program combining play and laughing activities with personality education. Self-recorded questionnaire was administered to investigate popularity of play(playing rules area, traditional play area, board game area), the laughing activity, digital games preference among 5th and 6th grade students. Most popular activities was board game area, followed by rule play area, traditional play area, and laughing activity in order. Group play among the rule play area, and Yutnory among traditional play, and digital games among board games were most preferred. This study suggest primitive classification and characterization of play and activities among senior elementary students. Further study for define classification of other eligible play and activities may be encouraged to establis high quality play and activity programs among elementary school students.

A Study on The selection criteria of Korean Traditional Nursery Rhyme for Children (유아를 위한 한국 전래동요의 선정 기준 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to make establishing criteria for Korea traditional nursery rhyme suitable for children and apply them effectively in early child education. The researchers of this study are firstly concerned with establishing criteria for Korean traditional nursery rhymes suitable for children. Secondly, they are concerned with establishing Korean traditional nursery rhymes suitable for children which are selected by following the established criteria. A Delphi survey was performed with early childhood educators and 30 related professionals to establish criteria for Korean traditional nursery rhymes suitable for children. The SPSS 12.0 program was used to calculate the standard deviation and average. Through this process the final seven criteria selected are: 'traditional play spaces and fun of play language is showed', 'lifestyles and emotions of children in the past is expressed', 'easy to understand story', 'the content is interesting', 'assisting in the development of children', 'easy to sing melody', and 'simple and repetitive in rhythm'. And 112 songs appropriate to the children were selected based on these criteria. The lyrics of the songs mainly expressed 'the joy of play.' it means songs need to combine with play to succeed to the next generation.

Effect of Traditional Play based Physical Activity Program on Social Competence of Young Children (전통놀이를 활용한 신체활동 프로그램이 유아의 사회적 유능감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to test effects of traditional play based physical activity program on social competence. To obtain this purpose, the following research hypotheses were established. First, experimental group will show higher level of social activity than control group. Second, experimental group will show higher level of stability than control group. Third, experimental group will show higher level of cooperation than control group. Fourth, experimental group will show higher level of hypersensitiveness than control group. Forty eight four year children participated in this study. Iowa Social Competency Scale(Preschool Form) was used to measure children's social competence. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and analysis of covariance. The results of this study showed that program was effective in improving children's socal competence. These results were discussed in relation to previous study. Finally research questions for future study were suggested with comment on limitations of this study.

The Effect of the Intergenerational Exchange Program for Older Adults and Young Children in the Community Using the Traditional Play (전래놀이를 활용한 지역사회 노인과 아동을 위한 세대교류 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the effects of a community-based first and third Intergenerational Exchange Program (IGEP) on older adults' health-related quality of life (HRQoL), loneliness, depression, and walking speed, and on 4~5-year-old preschool children's learning-related social skills. Methods: This study employed a non-equivalent control group pre-post-test design. The experimental group included 42 older adults and 42 children who participated in the IGEP for 8 weeks, and the control group included 39 older adults. The experimental group participated in the IGEP once a week for 8 weeks. It comprised a traditional play program based on the intergroup contact theory. Results: Compared to the control group, there was a significant increase in scores on the HRQoL-Visual analogue scale (VAS) and a decrease in loneliness and depression in older adults in the experimental group (p<.05). Children who participated in the IGEP showed an improvement in their learning-related social skills (p<.001). Conclusion: These results confirm that the IGEP is an effective intervention to improve HRQoL-VAS, loneliness, and depression among older adults and learning-related social skills among preschool children in the community.

Research on Jeongganbo Education Program (정간보(井間譜) 교육 프로그램)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop education programs for effective education of Jeong-gan-bo. Jeong-gan-bo is a unique piece of music made during King Sejong's reign. Starting in the third grade elementary school, Jeong-gan-bo begins to develop. If you fail to understand Jeongganbo in lower grades, you often give up scores of music in a more detailed and complicated manner. This is why we need a customized education program for the first time in lower grades. For this purpose, the basic process of understanding the Jeongganbo is understood to be played as a traditional play. This study consists of the elementary school the 3rd grade scenario. This study consists of the second - grade class scenarios for the 3rd grade elementary school students, the curriculum is centered on the curriculum, which is currently in the 3rd grade curriculum, curriculum in 2009. The program learns to play the rhythm of the 1st phase, the code of the 2nd stage of Jeong-dan, and play the rhythm through play through play. Step 1 is not only visually recognizable, but also a direct sign of the code. The second phase consists of the basic composition of Jeongganbo, through the basic composition of Jangdan, and learns the exact rhythm of Jeongganbo. The results of the study can be divided into meaningful meaning in terms of educational significance and educational content development in terms of educational significance. The methods used to understand the exercises and play games were effective in understanding the contents of Jeongganbo, and also meaningful to the role of traditional music in the context of various programs.
