  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the validity of various visual simulation methods with or without sounds and videos of the landscapes The landscape evaluation through such media as color slide, color slide with sounds, video and video without sounds are compared with on-site evaluaton of the landscape. The results are as follows : ·Video can generally convey the feelings for the real landscapes better than traditonal mathod, i.e., slide without sounds. ·When the sources of sounds are dominant in the view, there are great differences in responses among 4 different media and video can convey the feelings for real landscapes on site most successfully. ·There are slight differences by landscape types ; in mixed landscapes, there are higher correlations between the on-site estimaton and estimations through media ; in natural landscapes, video can reflect the feelings for real landscapes on site better. ·There is little difference between two shooting methods, fixed shot and pan shot. These results suggest that traditional visual simulation, with slides or photographs, could not reflect the real landscapes in certain situations and the visual simulation method with sounds and videos should be used in such situatios to represent the real landscape better. Especially, when the whole and comprehensive evaluatio of the landscape properties is important, the visual simulation with sounds and videos should be used. And simulation techniques with sounds and videos should be further developed for practial applications.

  • This study aims to explore the characteristics of translated picture books in South Korea and their cultural meanings over a five-decade period. This time can broadly be divided into three periods, being the Settlement Period (pre-1990), the Flourishing Years (1991-2000) and Globalization (post-2001). During the Settlement Period, picture books in South Korea were derived mainly from Japan and America and tended to be informational in nature or based on folk tales. These were translated into Korean to meet the public's curiosity for foreign cultures or for scientific information. The Flourishing Years were characterised by the availability of picture books on a wide variety on themes and forms from all over the world. In this period, the translation of books into Korean focused on a literal rendition of the meanings and sounds of names from the original text. There was also a proliferation of audiotapes, videos and TV programs based on famous picture books. In the current period of Globalization, Korean publishers, who have built confidence through studying foreign picture books over time, have increased efforts to produce their own picture books and export them abroad.

  • In this study, it was witnessed that a variety of tests are implemented in a type of convergence of multimedia such as photos, sounds, and videos as well as letters and drawings, components of existing traditional comics as comics are digitalized and are converted to various devices. Therefore, we studied the concept of multimedia comics as a basis of this study by judging that new barometer to comics lies in convergence with such multimedia. After recognizing components of multimedia comics which are currently emerging, we categorized them into three types depending on how to use these elements. First, convergence type webtoon has a very similar format with existing vertical scrolling webtoon and has characteristics that background & effects sounds are added to emphasize the features of webtoon, or photos or videos are inserted in part, and there is no function to control these elements; Second, motion comic, a medium format between comic and animation has a characteristic that sound, video, paging are auto-played like watching animation but it keeps the format of comics within one frame; Third, interactive comic has a characteristic that effects sound, motion, and story are made by active participation of viewers. As a result of analyzing comics which having above multimedia characteristics, its implications are as followings: First, multimedia elements should be used depending on genre, age, and media; Second, high level of control technology considering the features of comic-viewers is needed. In other words, in continuously evolving media environments, comic contents being proper to targets and use purposes of viewers should be developed. For this, multimedia elements of comics should be used in order that comic-viewers can have active & interactive communication with contents.

  • With the development of media technology, virtual reality (VR) technology is widely used in education, medical care, aerospace, entertainment and other fields. Among them, application in teaching courseware is a relatively new topic. Compared with traditional coursewares, virtual games visualized and extruded abstract teaching contents. Thus it strengthened teaching effects and expanded dimensions of learning. We hypothesized that virtual coursewares could increase users'sense of presence and enhance their focus. In this study, virtual courseswares were compared with traditional coursewares. At the same time, its feasibility and advantages of application were analyzed through literature researching, practical researching and statistical analysis from questionnaires. Furthermore, we designed a teaching system for VR coursewares and explored its performance in multidimensional and contextual teaching situations. It was found that Virtual coursewares have changed the boring traditional teaching methods. The teaching content was displayed in the form of three-dimensional images, videos and sounds through VR equipment, which effectively improved teaching efficiency. In addition, the feasibility of virtual courseware was demonstrated through factor analysis in questionnaires. Compared with traditional teaching courseware, VR coursewares can attract students' attention and improve learning efficiency. It provides a good example and is valuable for the research of virtual realities in education.

  • With the rapid growth of internet infrastructure, World Wide Web is evolving recently into various services such as cloud computing, social network services. It simply go beyond the sharing of information. It started to provide new services such as E-business, remote control or management, providing virtual services, and recently it is evolving into new services such as cloud computing and social network services. These kinds of communications through World Wide Web have been interested in and have developed user-centric customized services rather than providing provider-centric informations. In these environments, it is very important to check and analyze the user requests to a website. Especially, estimating user preferences is most important. For these reasons, analyzing web logs is being done, however, it has limitations that the most of data to analyze are based on page unit statistics. Therefore, it is not enough to evaluate user preferences only by statistics of specific page. Because recent main contents of web page design are being made of media files such as image files, and of dynamic pages utilizing the techniques of CSS, Div, iFrame etc. In this paper, large log analyzer was designed and executed to analyze web server log to estimate web contents preferences of users. With mapreduce which is based on Hadoop, large logs were analyzed and web contents preferences of media files such as image files, sounds and videos were estimated.
