Methods: The research participants were 294 senior nursing students in the nursing departments of 3 universities located in Jeollabuk-do. The students had completed 3 semesters of clinical practice. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression. Results: Participants' scores for professional self-concept, self-leadership, clinical competence were $2.78{\pm}0.36$, $3.63{\pm}0.47$, $3.80{\pm}0.40$ respectively. Professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence had positive correlations. Factors influencing nursing students' clinical competence included professional self-concepts in professional practice, self-expectations in self-leadership, constructive thinking, self-compensation and self-criticism in that order, and these variables explained 48%of the variance in clinical competence. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is important to develop and apply educational programs to increase professional self-concept and self-leadership in order to improve nursing students' clinical competence.

  • This research sought to investigate the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence of women engineering students. First, women undergraduate students' differences respecting self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were examined. Second, the relationships among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence were identified in terms of sub-factors of those three variables. Third, the effects of social support and interpersonal competence, as perceived by women undergraduate students, on self-leadership were explored. A total of 398 women undergraduate students from three universities in Korea responded to survey based on a three-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, women engineering students scored lower in all of the three variables including self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence, and that these major differences were statistically significant. Secondly, a positive correlation among self-leadership, social support and interpersonal competence was identified. Thirdly, it was determined that self-leadership was affected significantly by social support and interpersonal competence. Methods: The participants in this study were 443 staff nurses working in general hospitals and having more than 6 months of nursing experience. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Results: There were significant positive correlations between nurses' self-leadership and job involvement, and between nurses' self-leadership and clinical competence. In the multiple regression analysis, clinical career, type of department and self-leadership were significant predictors in explaining nurses' clinical competence and accounted for 28% of the variance in nurses' clinical competence. Conclusion: Study findings suggest that nurses' self-leadership is defined as having an important influence on nurses' clinical competence. In order to strengthen nurses' clinical competence, there is a need to develop education programs to increase nurses' self-leadership.

Data collected using questionnaires which consisted of general characteristics, cultural empathy, self-esteem, and cultural competence. The mean score for cultural empathy was $3.63{\pm}.34$(scores ranged from 1 to 5), The mean score for self-esteem was $2.91{\pm}.42$(scores ranged from 1 to 4). The mean score for cultural competence was $3.31{\pm}.43$(scores ranged from 1 to 5). There were significant differences between cultural competence and age(t=-2.242, p=.027), grade(F=3.473, p=.033), and fluency of foreign language(F=5.053, p=.007). There were significant correlation between cultural competence and cultural empathy(r=.49, p<.001), and self-esteem(r=.33, p<.001)), and self-esteem and cultural empathy(r=.33, p<.001). Cultural empathy and self-esteem explained 29.4% of cultural competence and major predictor variable for cultural competence was cultural empathy. In this paper, we propose various multicultural education programs in curriculum and extra curriculum that can enhance cultural empathy and self-esteem to improve cultural competence of nursing students. • Purpose - This research aims to find the moderation roles of power states in the effects of four message types (competence self-referencing, competence self-defining, warmth self-referencing, warmth self-defining) on brand attitude. Research design, data, and methodology - A restaurant brand was used as an experimental object, and 4(message types: warmth self-defining message, warmth self-referencing message, competence self-defining message, competence self-referencing message) × 2(power: high power and low power) between-subjects design was employed. Through on-line survey in Nepal, we collected a total of 240 individuals composed of eight experimental groups with 30 members in Nepal. Results - Consumers under low power state formed more positive brand attitude at the warmth self-defining message than any other types of message, while under high power condition, there are neither the attitude differences between competence self-referencing message and competence self-defining message, nor those between competence self-referencing message and warm self-defining message. The significant attitude differences showed between competence self-referencing message and warmth self-referencing message. Conclusions - This study contributes to the advertising theory development. Restaurant store marketers should deliver warmth self-defining message rather than the other three types of message to consumers under low power state, and they should not deliver warmth self-referencing message to consumers under high power state.

Methods: A descriptive survey was used to examine the factors that influence competence in intensive and critical care nursing. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires; 237 senior nursing students were asked about general characteristics, critical thinking, communication competence, self-esteem, self-resilience, and self-leadership. Results: Multiple regression analysis indicated that self-leadership, self-esteem, and confidence in intensive care unit practice predicted the competence in intensive and critical care nursing (37.8% of explanatory power). Critical thinking, communication competence, and self-resilience were not shown to be significant predictors of, but were positively correlated with, the competence in intensive and critical care nursing. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is suggested that self-leadership, self-esteem, and confidence in intensive care unit practice should be considered in nursing education in order to improve nursing students' level of competence in intensive and critical care nursing.
