Optimum Tool Design in a Multi-stage Rectangular Cup Drawing and Ironing Process with the Large Aspect Ratio by the Finite Element Analysis (유한요소해석을 이용한 세장비가 큰 직사각컵 다단계 디프 드로잉-아이어닝 공정의 최적 금형설계)

  • Optimum tool design is carried out fur a multi-stage rectangular cup deep-drawing and ironing process with the large aspect ratio. Finite element simulation is carried out to investigate deformation mechanisms with the initial design made by an expert. The analysis considers the deep drawing process with ironing for the thickness control in the cup wall. The analysis reveals that the difference of the drawing ratio within the cross section and the irregular contact condition produce non-uniform metal flow to cause wrinkling and severe extension. For remedy, the modification guideline is proposed in the design of the tool and the process. Analysis results confirm that the modified tool design not only improves the quality of a deep-drawn product but also reduces the possibility of failure. The numerical result shows fair coincidence with the experimental one. After tryouts of the tool shape, the rectangular cup has been produced in the transfer press.

Initial Blank Optimization Design of Square Can Multistage Drawing considering Formability and Product Shape (사각형 캔 드로잉 다단 공정에서 성형성과 제품형상을 동시에 고려한 초기 블랭크 형상 최적 설계)

  • Multistage deep-drawing technology is used widely in the production of mobile phone battery cases to improve productivity and economy. To ensure adequate capacity and rigidity, such cases are fabricated as a rectangular cup with a high slender ratio. The multistage deep-drawing of a rectangular cup entails a high slender ratio, and the heights of the product sides may be non-uniform because of the complicated deformation mechanisms. This causes problems in product assembly that affects the surface quality of the case. This study examined a blank shape that minimizes the height variations of the product to resolve the aforementioned problems. Optimization design and analysis were performed to identify the shape that yields the least variation. The long and short sides of an oval blank were set as the design variables. The objective function was set to yield the lowest height difference, and the thickness reduction rate of the product was set to the target range. In addition, the height of the final shape was set as a constraint. The height difference was minimized successfully using the optimized design. The design process of the initial blank for all rectangular shapes can be automated in the future.

Hot Metal Extru-Bending Process for the Aluminum Curved Tube Product (알루미늄 중공 곡관제품의 열간 압출굽힘가공)

  • The bending phenomenon has been known to be occurred by the different of velocity at the die exit. The difference of velocity at the die exit section can be obtained by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container and by the cohesion of billet inside the porthole die chamber. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the different hole diameter. The experiments using aluminium material for the curved tube product had been done. The results of the experiment show that the curved tube product can be formed by the extru-bending process without the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube and the folding and wrinkling. It is known that the welding and extruding of each billet has done simultaneously although the curved tube is extruded with four billets.

The Study of Teaching Multiplication (곱셈 지도에 관한 고찰)

  • Multiplication is able to be described by using repeated addition, a Cartesian product, a scalar operation, rectangular array and area in many various context. Multiplication in various problem situations is learned by various of the teaching method and the order of teaching more than any other mathematical concepts and operations in elementary school. Nevertheless, the context of multiplication leaves further room for improvement. The purpose of this study is to examine the similarities and differences between the conceptual aspects of multiplication through the literature and to analyze the appropriateness of the teaching method and the order of teaching through textbook analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that multiplication of a scalar operation was introduced too early and did not properly reflect of meaning of multiplication as a scalar operation. There is also a need to use the concept of the rectangular array or area as a meaning of multiplication two quantities.

  • Since magnesium alloy sheets have been employed in industrial field which requires the light weight and thin engineering components, most of researches have been focused on the formability of magnesium ahoy sheet. In warm press forming of magnesium alloy sheet, it is important to control the sheet temperature by heating the sheet in closed die. When forming a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets which are 0.5mm and 1.0mm thick, respectively, time arriving at target temperature and temperature variation in magnesium alloy sheet have been investigated. Sheet metals were mostly formed in simple shapes such as circular or rectangular. Few studies about forming of complex shapes were reported. Thus, the formability of magnesium alloy sheet for complex shapes is investigated. The process variable for a double sink shape deep drawing with circular and rectangular shape was investigated by varying temperature, velocities, and clearances. Accordingly, temperature, velocities, and clearances suitable for forming were suggested through investigating the thickness variation of the product.

  • The bending process for the rectangular and circular curled tube can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the multiple punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon has been known to be occurred by the different of velocity at the die exit. The difference of velocity at the die exit section can be obtained by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container and by the cohesion of billet Inside the porthole die chamber. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the difference of velocity at the die edit section by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container The other is the difference by the different hole diameter The results of the experiment show that the rectangular curved tube can be formed by the extrusion process, that the curvature of the curved product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and the diameter of container hole, that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube and the folding and wrinkling of thin tube did not happen after the extra-bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

  • This study deals with the cold forging process design for shaft in the main part of automobile motors with rectangular deep groove. In forging process, the accuracy and die lift is very important because it have influence on reduction of the production cost and the increase of the production rate. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the manufacturing process of shaft by cold forging., process variables are the cropped face angle of billet and the eccentric load of punch. The former is derived from cropping test, the latter is occurred by clearance between container and preform. Also, grooved preform select the process variable for decrease in punch deflection. We investigate that a deflection of punch and a deformation of preform to every process variables. Through this investigation, we suggest the optimal preform and process design, expect to be improved the tool life in forging process.

Performance Analysis of Tri-gate FinFET for Different Fin Shape and Source/Drain Structures (Tri-gate FinFET의 fin 및 소스/드레인 구조 변화에 따른 소자 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, the performance variations of tri-gate FinFET are analyzed for different fin shapes and source/drain epitaxy types using a 3D device simulator(Sentaurus). If the fin shape changes from a rectangular shape to a triangular shape, the threshold voltage increases due to a non-uniform potential distribution, the off-current decreases by 72.23%, and the gate capacitance decreases by 16.01%. In order to analyze the device performance change from the structural change of the source/drain epitaxy, we compared the grown on the fin (grown-on-fin) structure and grown after the fin etch (etched-fin) structure. 3-stage ring oscillator was simulated using Sentaurus mixed-mode, and the energy-delay products are derived for the different fin and source/drain shapes. The FinFET device with triangular-shaped fin with etched-fin source/drain type shows the minimum the ring oscillator delay and energy-delay product.

Study on the curving phenomenon of rectangular shaped product in extrusion process (사각형 단면을 가진 제품의 압출가공시 제품의 굽힘현상에 관한 연구)

  • The kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of extruded products. The curving of product in extrusion is caused by the linearly distributed longitudinal velocity on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance form the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. The results of the analysis show that the curvature of product increses with increses in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance form that of the cross-section at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance from the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. Development of Mold-Die for Mobile Phone Component (핸드폰 부품 제작용 금형개발)

  • On this study, injection molding product of rectangular tray structure with thickness 0.25mm and aspect ratio(length/thickness) approximately 150 conducted. Technical aspects were reviewed on mold-die design and injection molding conditions. To have a thin-membraned plastic part, short-shot, shrinkage, twist, whitening and flash problems were considered and resolved. After measuring products, validity of this study and future improvement were discussed.
