  • A general investifation into the physical mechanism that is respinsible for drag above the sea surface has been undertaken. On the basis of a ID model of the Wave Boundary Layer(WBL), under a 2D wave field, a parameterization technique for estimation of the drag and mean characteristics of WBL is described. Special attention is paid to estimation of the simplifying assumption of the theory.

  • In this paper, we study the multipliers of $A^p_q$ into $L^{p^{\prime}}$ when 0 < p' < p. For this purpose, we study the condition on the measure ${\mu}$ satisfying $A^p_q{\subset}A^{p^{\prime}}(d{\mu})$. It turns out that the quotient $k_q={\mu}/v_q$ over hyperbolic ball of radius less than 1 belongs to $L^s_q$, where $\frac{1}{s}+\frac{p^{\prime}}{p}=1$. For the proof, we replace the norm of $k_q$ by the Riemann sum, and then use a result of interpolation theory.

  • M. Reni has shown that there are at most nine mutually inequivalent knots in the 3-sphere whose 2-fold branched covering spaces are mutually homeomorphic, hyperbolic 3-manifolds. By observing that the Z-homology sphere version of M. Reni's result still holds, M. Mecchia and B. Zimmermann showed that there are exactly nine mutually inequivalent, knots in Z-homology 3-spheres whose 2-fold branched covering spaces are mutually homeomorphic, hyperbolic 3-manifolds, and conjectured that there exist exactly nine mutually inequivalent, knots in the true 3-sphere whose 2-fold branched covering spaces are mutually homeomorphic, hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Their proof used an argument of AID imitations published in 1992. The main result of this paper is to solve their conjecture affirmatively by combining their argument with a theory of strongly AID imitations published in 1997.

  • In this paper, we study the existence of positive solutions for singular impulsive differential equations with integral boundary conditions $$\{u^{{\prime}{\prime}}(t)+q(t)f(t,u(t),u^{\prime}(t))=0,\;t{\in}\mathbb{J}^{\prime},\\{\Delta}u(t_k)=I_k(u(t_k),u^{\prime}(t_k)),\;k=1,2,{\cdots},p,\\{\Delta}u^{\prime}(t_k)=-L_k(u(t_k),u^{\prime}(t_k)),\;k=1,2,{\cdots},p,\\u=(0)={\int}_{0}^{1}g(t)u(t)dt,\;u^{\prime}=0,$$) where the nonlinearity f(t, u, v) may be singular at v = 0. The proof is based on the theory of Leray-Schauder degree, together with a truncation technique. Some recent results in the literature are generalized and improved.

  • In Jøsang's subjective logic, the fusion operator is not able to fuse three or more opinions at a time and it cannot consider the effect of time factors on fusion. Also, the base rate (a) and non-informative prior weight (C) could not change dynamically. In this paper, we propose an Improved Subjective Logic Model with Evidence Driven (ISLM-ED) that expands and enriches the subjective logic theory. It includes the multi-agent unified fusion operator and the dynamic function for the base rate (a) and the non-informative prior weight (C) through the changes in evidence. The multi-agent unified fusion operator not only meets the commutative and associative law but is also consistent with the researchers's cognitive rules. A strict mathematical proof was given by this paper. Finally, through the simulation experiments, the results show that the ISLM-ED is more reasonable and effective and that it can be better adapted to the changing environment.

  • We consider a wide class of general weakly-dependent processes, called ψ-weak dependence, which unify almost all weak dependence structures of interest found in statistics under natural conditions on process parameters, such as mixing, association, Bernoulli shifts, and Markovian sequences. For detecting the tail behavior of the weakly dependent processes, change point tests are developed by means of cumulative sum (CUSUM) statistics with the empirical distribution functions of sample extremes. The null limiting distribution is established as a Brownian bridge. Its proof is based on the ψ-weak dependence structure and the existence of the phantom distribution function of stationary weakly-dependent processes. A Monte-Carlo study is conducted to see the performance of sizes and powers of the CUSUM tests in GARCH(1, 1) models; in addition, real data applications are given with log-returns of financial data such as the Korean stock price index.

  • This paper presents a simple procedure to obtain a substitute, homogenized mechanical response of single layer graphene sheet. The procedure is based on the judicious combination of molecular mechanics simulation results and homogenization method. Moreover, a series of virtual experiments are performed on the representative graphene lattice. Following these results, the constitutive model development is based on the well-established continuum mechanics framework, that is, the non-linear membrane theory which includes the hyperelastic model in terms of principal stretches. A proof-of-concept and performance is shown on a simple model problem where the hyperelastic strain energy density function is chosen in polynomial form.

  • The aim of the present paper is to establish an intrinsic generalization of Cartan connection in Finsler geometry. This connection is called the vertical recurrent Finsler connection. An intrinsic proof of the existence and uniqueness theorem for such connection is investigated. Moreover, it is shown that for such connection, the associated semi-spray coincides with the canonical spray and the associated nonlinear connection coincides with the Barthel connection. Explicit intrinsic expression relating this connection and Cartan connection is deduced. We also investigate some applications concerning the fundamental geometric objects associated with this connection. Finally, three important results concerning the curvature tensors associated to a special vertical recurrent Finsler connection are studied.

  • The geodesics on the round 2-sphere $S^2$ are all simple closed curves of equal length. In 1903 Otto Zoll introduced other Riemannian surfaces with the same property. After that, his name is attached to the Riemannian manifolds whose geodesics are all simple closed curves of the same length. The question that "whether or not the set of Zoll metrics on 2-sphere $S^2$ is connected?" is still an outstanding open problem in the theory of Zoll manifolds. In the present paper, continuing the work of D. Jane for the case of the Ricci flow, we show that a naive application of some famous geometric flows does not work to answer this problem. In fact, we identify an attribute of Zoll manifolds and prove that along the geometric flows this quantity no longer reflects a Zoll metric. At the end, we will establish an alternative proof of this fact.

  • In this article, we study the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions for the following fourth-order differential equation (1) u(4)(x) + ωu''(x) + a(x)u(x) = f(x, u(x)), ∀x ∈ ℝ where a(x) is not required to be either positive or coercive, and F(x, u) = ∫u0 f(x, v)dv is of subquadratic or superquadratic growth as |u| → ∞, or satisfies only local conditions near the origin (i.e., it can be subquadratic, superquadratic or asymptotically quadratic as |u| → ∞). To the best of our knowledge, there is no result published concerning the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions for (1) with our conditions. The proof is based on variational methods and critical point theory.
