  • In this note we give a new generalization of the notions of $Pr{\ddot{U}}fer$ domain and PvMD which uses quasi semistar invertibility, the "quasi P$\star$MD", and compare them with the P$\star$MD. We show in particular that the problem of when a quasi P$\star$MD is a P$\star$MD is strictly related to the problem of the descent to subrings of the P$\star$MD property and we give necessary and sufficient conditions.

  • This paper considers a facility location problem, which is concerned with locating facilities on a supply chain network and installing the associated equipments at the facilities to meet a given set of demands. The objective function is to minimize the sum of setup cost (facility opening cost and equipment installation cost), operation cost, and distribution cost. For the equipments, various choices of equipment modes need to be determined. Moreover, in the problem, overwork is allowed each facility but at expensive operation cost. The proposed problem is characterized as being NP-hard problem, so that a heuristic algorithm is derived. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, computational experiments with various numerical instances are conducted.

  • Industrialization and urbanization occurred-traffic delay, traffic accident and parking problem etc.-variety of transportation problems. Parking problem is one of the transportation problem then transportation engineers would get involved in trying to solve parking problem. A way to overcome a variety of parking problems needs preliminary data for conditions of parking but it lacks the preliminary data to do so. Thus this study analyzed a characteristic of a parking through a field survey for parking in Daegu Metropolitan City. This study analyzed parking characteristic of parking operation method. This study result reveals difference between a toll parking and a no charge parking characteristic. Thus a close examination for a toll parking characteristic and a no charge parking characteristic is a prerequisite for a rational parking policy.

  • In this paper, we consider a multi-objective part-machine grouping problem, in which part types have several alternative part routings and each part routing has a machining sequence. This problem is characterized as optimally determining part type sets and its corresponding machine cells such that the sum of inter-cell part movements and the sum of machine workload imbalances are simultaneously minimized. Due to the complexity of the problem, a two-stage heuristic algorithm is proposed, and experiments are shown to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • This study presents an energy analysis for large-strain cavity expansion problem based on the general strength criterion and energy theory. This study focuses on the energy dissipation problem during the cavity expansion process, dividing the soil mass around the cavity into an elastic region and a plastic region. Assuming compliance with the small deformation theory in the elastic region and the large deformation theory in the plastic region, combined with the general strength criterion of soil mass and energy theory, the energy dissipation solution for cavity expansion problem is derived. Firstly, from an energy perspective, the process of cavity expansion in soil mass is described as an energy conversion process. The energy dissipation mechanism is introduced into the traditional analysis of cavity expansion, and a general analytical solution for cavity expansion related to energy is derived. Subsequently, based on this general analytical solution of cavity expansion, the influence of different strength criterion, large-strain, expansion radius, cavity shape and characteristics of soil mass on the stress distribution, displacement field and energy evolution around the cavity is studied. Finally, the effectiveness and reliability of theoretical solution is verified by comparing the results of typical pressure-expansion curves with existing literature algorithms. The results indicate that different strength criterion have a relatively small impact on the displacement and strain field around the cavity, but a significant impact on the stress distribution and energy evolution around the cavity.

Teaching the Derivation of Area Formulas for Polygonal Regions through Dissection-Motion-Operations (DMO): A Visual Reasoning Approach

  • Utilizing a structure of operations known as Dissection-Motion-Operations (DMO), a set of mathematics propositions or area-formulas in school mathematics will be introduced through shape-to-shape transforms. The underlying theme for DMO is problem-solving through visual reasoning and proving manipulatively or electronically vs. rote learning and memorization. Visual reasoning is the focus here where two operations that constitute DMO are utilized. One operation is known as Dissection (or Decomposition) operation that operates on a given region in 2D or 3D and dissects it into a number of subregions. The second operation is known as Motion (or Composition) operation applied on the resultant sub-regions to form a distinct area (or volume)-equivalent region. In 2D for example, DMO can transform a given polygon into a variety of new and distinct polygons each of which is area-equivalent to the original polygon (cf [Rahim, M. H. & Sawada, D. (1986).   • In the early 2000s, the rapid decline in the fertility rate resulted in a decrease in military resources to maintain the conscription system. In addition, there has been a further decline in the fertility rate in recent years. So, it is necessary to efficiently utilize military resources to prepare for future problems. The Republic of Korea Navy is planning to reduce the number of crew to operate the newly built warships to prepare for this trend of decreasing in troop resources. However, if the number of crew is reduced without reviewing the appropriate number of crew for the operation of the warship, a bigger problem may be encountered in the future. In order to solve this problem, research is being conducted to examine whether the number of crew aboard a warship is appropriate using simulation. However, it is difficult to create a crew simulation model due to the lack of detailed data related to crew operation. In this study, to solve this problem, a method of generating quantitative data using qualitative survey results was suggested, and the process of creating a crew simulation model was performed using this.

  • By means of analyzing the problems in monitoring plan, design, installation, operation based on maintenance monitoring system installed in subway tunnel section, the improved methods of were proposed for applying to subway monitoring maintenance effectively in the future. The choice of the better monitoring system, the operating method of monitoring system, the confidence and continuity of maintenance monitoring, the performance of responsible monitoring supervision in the phase of the planning of monitoring and design were proposed. The problem and developed plan in the different monitoring systems, the calibration and correction of monitoring system, the analysis for the results and plan for maintenance in the phase of installation of monitoring system and operation were also proposed.

A Scheduling Algorithm for Workstations with Limited Waiting Time Constraints in a Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication Facility (대기시간 제약을 고려한 반도체 웨이퍼 생산공정의 스케쥴링 알고리듬)

  • This paper focuses on the problem of scheduling wafer lots with limited waiting times between pairs of consecutive operations in a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility. For the problem of minimizing total tardiness of orders, we develop a priority rule based scheduling method in which a scheduling decision for an operation is made based on the states of workstations for the operation and its successor or predecessor operation. To evaluate performance of the suggested scheduling method, we perform simulation experiments using real factory data as well as randomly generated data sets. Results of the simulation experiments show that the suggested method performs better than a method suggested in other research and the one that has been used in practice.
