Porcelain with high thermal shock resistance was successfully fabricated by a lithium solution infiltration method with a lithium hydroxide solution. Lithium hydroxide solutions having various lithium concentrations were infiltrated into pre-sintered porcelain bodies. The porcelain sample infiltrated by the 9 wt% lithium solution and heat treated at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 1 h showed a low thermal expansion coefficient of $1.0{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ with excellent thermal shock resistance. The highly thermally resistant porcelain had a well-developed ${\beta}$-spodumene phase with the general phases observed in porcelain. Furthermore, the porcelain showed a denser structure of $2.41g/cm^3$ sintering density and excellent whiteness in comparison with commercial thermally resistible porcelains. The lithium hydroxide in the samples readily reacted with moisture, and liquid phase reactants were formed during the fabrication process. In the case of an excess amount of lithium in the sample body, the lithium reactants were forced to the surface and re-crystallized at the surface, leaving large pores beneath the surface. These phenomena resulted in an irregular structure in the surface area and led to cracking in samples subjected to a thermal shock test.

We fabricated ramp-edge Josephson junctions with barriers formed by interface treatments instead of epitaxially grown barrier layers. Low-dielectric Sr$_2AITaO_6$(SAT) layer was used as an ion-milling mask as well as an insulating layer for the ramp-edge junctions. An ion-milled YBa$_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO)-edge surface was not exposed to solvent through all fabrication procedures. The barriers were produced by structural modification at the bottom YBCO edge using plasma treatment prior to deposition of the top YBCO electrode. We investigated the effects of pre-annealing and post-annealing on the characteristics of the interface-treated Josephson junctions. The junction parameters were improved by using in-situ RF plasma cleaning treatment.
PURPOSE: The application of computer-aided technology to implant dentistry has created new opportunities for treatment planning, surgery and prosthodontic treatment, but the correct selection and combination of available methods may be challenging in times. Hence, the purpose of this case report is to present a combination of several computer-aided tools as approaches to manage complicated implant case. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 47 year-old female patient with severe dental anxiety, high expectations, financial restrictions and poor compliance presented for a fixed rehabilitation. A CT scan with a radiographic template obtained with software (SimPlant, Materialize, Leuven, Belgium) was used for treatment planning. The surgical plan was created and converted into a stereolithographic model of the maxilla with bone-supported surgical templates (SurgiGuide, Materialise, Leuven, Belgium), that allowed for the precise placement of 7 implants in a severely resorbed edentulous maxilla. After successful osseointegration, an accurate scan model served as the basis for the fabrication of a one-piece milled titanium framework using the Procera (Nobel Biocare, Gothenburg, Sweden) technology. The final rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla was rendered in the form of a screw-retained maxillary metal-reinforced resin-based complete prosthesis. RESULTS: Despite challenging circumstances, 7 implants could be placed without bone augmentation in a severely resorbed maxilla using the SimPlant software for pre-implant analysis and the SurgiGuide-system as the surgical template. The patient was successfully restored with a fixed full arch restoration, utilizing the Procera system for the fabrication of a milled titanium framework.
Micro laser fabrication techniques can potentially be used for the manufacture of microstructures on the thin flat surfaces with large diameter that are frequently used in semiconductor industries. However, the large size of wafers can cause the degraded machining accuracy of the surface because it can be tilted or distorted by geometric errors of machines or the holding fixtures, etc. To overcome these errors the off-line focusing error compensation method is proposed. By using confocal autofocus system, the focusing error profile of machined surface is measured along the pre-determined path and can be compensated at the next machining process by making the corrected motion trajectories. The experimental results for silicon wafers and invar flat surfaces show that the proposed method can compensate the focusing error within the level of below $6.9{\mu}m$ that is the depth of focus required for the laser micromachining process.
This is a parameter study for the direct fabrication of a large grain YBCO bulk superconductors using Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO powders without any grinding step. The cracks, which have been formed due to volume contraction during calcination step, have been prevented by controlling the heating rate at 930~950 ℃. It has been observed that multi-grain growth has occurred due to the dissolution of Sm123 seed due to the retention of carbon in Ba-Cu-O melt. In order to accelerate the carbon release in prior calcination heat treatment, the reduction of pellet thickness and the drilling of artificial holes have been applied. Single-grain YBCO bulk superconductor has been successfully fabricated by stacking multiple thin slab. However, the crack formation has been rather prominent for the compact with artificial holes. The use of buffer pellet, which is supposed to act as diffusion barrier, has prevented the dissolution of Sm123 seed crystal and has led to the growth of single grain of high content of carbon containing specimen.
A fluorine-doped diamond-like carbon (F-DLC) stamp which has high contact angle, high UV-transmittance and sufficient hardness, was fabricated using the following direct etching method: F-DLC is deposited on a quartz substrate using DC and RF magnetron sputtering, PMMA is spin coated and patterned using e-beam lithography and finally, O2 plasma etching is performed to transfer the line patterns having 100 nm line width, 100 nm line space and 70 nm line depth on F-DLC. The optimum fluorine concentration was determined after performing several pre-experiments. The stamp was applied successfully to UV-NIL without being coated with an anti-adhesion layer.
New fabrication technique was developed to make three dimensional silicon microstructure with five fold vertical steps through entire wafer thickness. Each step is pre-defined on multiply stacked thermal oxide and silicon nitride (O/N) layers by photolithographies. Multi-stepped silicon microstructure is formed by anisotropic etch in aqueous KOH solution with the patterned nitride film as masking layer. Fabricated microstructure consists of four $16{\mu}m$ thick flexural spring beams, $290{\mu}m$ thick proof mass, mesas for overrange stop with $10{\mu}m$ height from the surface of the proof mass, and the other mesas and V grooves used for assembling this structure to the packaging frame of pendulous servo accelerometer. Using the numerical finite element method (FEM) simulator: ABAQUS, mechanical characteristics of the fabricated microstructure by the developed technique was compared with those of the same structure processed by one step silicon bulk etch followed by oxidation and patterning the etched region.
The composite beam adopted in the study was designed to reduce the floor height as well as to embed the top flange of steel frame into the slab that will enable to avoid applying the fire-resistant coating and to unify the joint method with a steel frame-type. As the steel frame and bottom concrete of the beam is pre-fabricated at the factory it could reduce the overall schedule at the jobsite. Applying such composite beam system to the work is expected to provide the efficient and enhanced performance, given the current tendency of the building construction that tends to be getting higher, larger and dense. The study focused on combining the composite beam with various column systems in a bid to propose the details thereof. A desirable composite girder can be adopted depending on site conditions through the evaluation of various beam and jointing approaches. Among the column systems applied to the study are steel column, SRC column, RC-PC column and RC column. The ways of combining with the columns addressed in the study were categorized into the rigid joint, pin joint, steel frame joint and bracket type joint. Besides, the instruction for site fabrication of beam-column was added in an effort to help set up the site fabrication procedures.
Characterizing the behavior of nuclear reactor plate fuels is vital to the progression of advanced fuel systems. The states of pre- and post-irradiation plates need to be determined effectively and efficiently prior to and following irradiation. Due to the hostile post-irradiation environment, characterization must be completed remotely. Laser-based characterization techniques enable the ability to make robust measurements inside a hot-cell environment. The Laser Shock (LS) technique generates high energy shockwaves that propagate through the plate and mechanically characterizes cladding-cladding interfaces. During an irradiation campaign, two Idaho National Laboratory (INL) fabricated MP-1 plates had a fuel breach in the cladding-cladding interface and trace amounts of fission products were released. The objective of this report is to characterize the cladding-cladding interface strengths in three plates fabricated using different fabrication processes. The goal is to assess the risk in irradiating future developmental and production fuel plates. Prior LS testing has shown weaker and more variability in bond strengths within INL MP-1 reference plates than in commercially produced vendor plates. Three fuel plates fabricated with different fabrication processes will be used to bound the bond strength threshold for plate irradiation insertion and assess the confidence of this threshold value.
Statement of problem : Recently various implant components such as premachined gold cylinder, plastic cylinder gold UCLA abutment and plastic abutment were developed and used clinically without clinical investigation. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fabrication of gold cylinder on the fitness and preload of the standard abutment and also the effects of fabrication of UCLA gold abutment on the fitness and stress transfer around the implant fixture. Material and method : Three kinds of gold cylinders such as, as-received gold cylinder (Nobel Biocare, Sweden), gold cylinder after casting, and plastic cylinder after casting with type IV gold alloy were tested over the top of the standard abutment. At the same time, three types of abutments such as, gold UCLA abutment before and after casting, and plastic abutment after casting were tested. The cylinder and abutment was secured over the fixture with conventional pre-load values using an electronic torque controller (Nobel Biocare, Sweden). The fitness of the abutment on the fixture and gold cylinder over the standard abutment were measured using the microhardness tester (MXT 70, Matsuzawa, Japan). Preload and the strain values were recorded using the strain balance unit (SB-10, Measurement group, Raleigh, USA) and strain indicator (P-3500, Measurement group, Raleigh, USA) systems. Results and conclusion : 1. Significant differences were found in the fit between the gold cylinder and plastic cylinder. 2 There were significant differences between the preload of the gold cylinder and that of the plastic cylinder. 3. Significant differences were found in the fit between the gold UCLA abutment and plastic UCLA abutment. 4. There were no significant differences in the stress generated on the supporting structure of the fixture among different cylinder and abutment groups.
