  • A matrix completion problem has been exploited amply because of its abundant applications and the analysis of contractions enables us to have insight into structure and space of operators. In this article, we focus on a specific completion problem related to Hankel partial contractions. We provide concrete necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of completion of Hankel partial contractions for both extremal and non-extremal types with lower dimensional matrices. Moreover, we give a negative answer for the conjecture presented in [8]. For our results, we use several tools such as the Nested Determinants Test (or Choleski's Algorithm), the Moore-Penrose inverse, the Schur product techniques, and a congruence of two positive semi-definite matrices; all these suggest an algorithmic approach to solve the contractive completion problem for general Hankel matrices of size $n{\times}n$ in both types.

  • This paper deals with the decentralized robust adaptive controller design for large-scale interconnected systems. We consider an arbitrary interconnection of subsystems with unkown parameters and bounded disturbances. When the disturbance and uncertain interconnections are present, the stability of the controlled large scale system is ensured if there exists a positive definite M-matrix which is related to the bound of the interconnections. The possible bound of the interconnections is assumed to be known Pth order polynomials for the decentralized adaptive controller. A modified adaptive law is proposed guaranteeing the existence of a region of attraction from which all signals converge to a residual set Do, which contains the equilibrium.

  • This paper addresses analysis and design of a fuzzy model-based-controller for the control of uncertain SISO nonlinear systems. In the design procedure, we represent the nonlinear system by using a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller via parallel distributed compensation and sliding mode control. Unlike other parallel distributed controllers. this globally stable fuzzy controller is designed without finding a common positive definite matrix for a set of Lyapunov equations, and has good tracking performance. Furthermore, stability analysis is conducted not for the fuzzy model but for the real underlying nonlinear system. A simulation is included for the control of the Duffing forced-oscillation system, to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy control method.

  • This paper proposes a switching control method applicable to any affine, 2nd order nonlinear system with single input. The key contribution is to develop a control design method which uses a piecewise continuous Lyapunov function non-increasing at every discontinuous point. The proposed design method requires no restrictions except full state availability. To obtain a non-increasing, piecewise continuous Lyapunov function, we change the sign of off-diagonal term s of the positive definite matrix composing the former Lyapunov function according to the sign of the Inter-connection term. And we use the solution of inequalities which guarantee each Lyapunov function is non-increasing at any discontinuous point.

  • In the treatment of the sequential beta-protection procedure, we define the reasonable stopping time and investigate that for the stopping time Wijsman's requirements, coverage probability and beta-protection conditions, are satisfied in the estimation for the mean vector ${\mu}$ by the sample from the multivariate normal distributed population with unknown mean vector ${\mu}$ and a positive definite variance-covariance matrix ${\Sigma}$.

  • An incomplete factorization method for preconditioning symmetric positive definite matrices is introduced to solve normal equations. The normal equations are form to solve linear least squares problems. The procedure is based on a block incomplete Cholesky factorization and a multilevel recursive strategy with an approximate Schur complement matrix formed implicitly. A diagonal perturbation strategy is implemented to enhance factorization robustness. The factors obtained are used as a preconditioner for the conjugate gradient method. Numerical experiments are used to show the robustness and efficiency of this preconditioning technique, and to compare it with two other preconditioners.

  • This paper presents an $H_{\infty)$ output feedback controller design method for linear systems with delayed state, delayed control input, and delayed masurement output. Using a Lyapunov functional, the stability for delayed systems is discussed independently of delays. Also, sufficient condition for the existence of $H_{\infty)$ controllers of any order is given in terms of three linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Based on positive definite solutions of their LMIs, we briefly explain the way to construct $H_{\infty)$ controller, which stabilizes time-delay systems independently of delays and guarantees an $H_{\infty)$norm bound.

  • This paper presents an H\ulcorner controller design method for linear time-invariant systems with delayed state and control. Using the second method of Lyapunov, the stability for delayed systems is discussed. For delayed systems, we derive a sufficient condition of the bounded real lemma(BRL) which is similar to GBRL for nondelayed systems. And the sufficent conditions for the existence of an H\ulcorner controller of any order are given in terms of three linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Further, we briefly explain how to construct such controllers from the positive definite solutions of their LMIs and gie a simple example to illustrate the validity of the proposed design procedure.

  • This paper describes the parameter convergence properties of an adaptive system to identify a single-input single-output plant model. It is demonstrated that, by using power spectrum analysis, the persistency of excitation (PE) condition in order to guarantee the exponential stability of the adaptive control system can be transformed into the positive definite behavior for the auto-correlation function matrix of adaptive signal. The existence of parameter nominal values can be analyzed by this condition and the convergence rates of parameter are determined by examining the auto-correlation function. We may use the sufficient richness (SR) of input spectrum instead of the PE condition to analyze the parameter boundedness. It can be shown that the eigen values of the auto-correlation function are always related with adaptive gain, input amplitude and positions or numbers of input spectra. In each case, the variation of parameter convergence rate can be also verified.
