  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of home related variables like socio-demographic variables, parent-child communication, and concern for children's education on children's school adjustment. The data was collected from 287 elementary school children living in Gyunggido. Measurement scales included the children's school adjustment inventory, the questionnaire of the socio-demographic variables, the parent-child communication index, and the parent's concern about children's education index. Results showed that children's school adjustment was significantly effected with regard to: father's age, father's education, mother's education, income, and mother's job. Correlation analysis indicated that parent-child open communication was positively correlated to children's school adjustment; that is the relationships with teachers and with friends, study at school, and rule of school. As well, parent-child problematic communication was negatively correlated to all of the school adjustment variables. Parent's concern about children's education indicated positive correlations with all of the school adjustment variables. It was also found that: parent's concern about children's education, parent-child open communication, parent-child problematic communication, mother's education, and income were significant predictors of the children's school adjustment.

  • The Center for Science Gifted Education (CSGE) of Chongju National University of Education was established in 1998 with the financial support of the Korea. Science & Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). In fact, we had prepared mathematics and science gifted education program beginning in 1997. It was possible due to the commitment of faculty members with an interest in gifted education. Now we have 5 classes in Mathematics, two of which are fundamental, one of which is a strengthened second-grade class gifted elementary school students, and one a fundamental class, and one a strengthened class for gifted middle school students in Chungbuk province. Each class consists of 16 students selected by a rigorous examination and filtering process. Also we have a mentoring system for particularly gifted students in mathematics. We have a number of programs for Super-Saturday, Summer School, Winter School, and Mathematics and Science Gifted Camp. Each program is suitable for 90 or 180 minutes of class time. The types of tasks developed can be divided into experimental, group discussion, open-ended problem solving, and exposition and problem solving tasks. Levels of the tasks developed for talented elementary students in mathematics can be further divided into grade 5 and under, grade 6, and grade 7 and over. Types of the tasks developed can be divided into experimental, group discussion, open-ended problem solving, and exposition and problem solving task. Also levels of the tasks developed for talented elementary students in mathematics can be divided into the level of lower than grade 5, level of grade 6, and level of more than grade 7. • This study was to investigate the learning motive types and degree of psychological well-being of middle-aged married women attending the Korea National Open University and to examine the difference in their psychological well-being according to the types of learning motives. For these purposes, a survey was conducted to 263 middle-aged married women from 36 to 60 at the Korea National Open University. The findings were as follows: First, learning motive types of middle-aged women could be classified into 3 types; a non-oriented type, an activity and goal-oriented type and a multi-oriented type. A multi-oriented types were the most popular among those. Second, the overall level of self-respect was above the median, but the life satisfaction level was below the median. Third, there was difference in their self-respect level according to the learning motive types. That is, students who had a multi-oriented learning motive were higher self-respect level than those who had an activity and goal-oriented learning motive. Therefore, lifelong education is very significance in these days when average life span is prolonged.

  • The purpose of this study was to contrive the specific teaching plans based on the frame of 2007 revised science curriculum for applying open-inquiry lesson in real education situation and to research the effects of open-inquiry lesson on the student's science-related attitude, science process skill, and to investigate instructing teachers' cognition about open-inquiry. For this study, two fifth grade classes were chosen, one class was the experimental group, who were taught by open-inquiry based lesson, and another was the comparative group, who were taught by traditional method based lesson. The findings of this study were as follows: After open-inquiry lesson, the experimental group students came to enjoy open-inquiry learning and had the positive thought about it. After open-inquiry lesson, the experimental group marked higher mean score than the comparative group in science-related attitude's field but didn't showed the meaningful difference. On the other hand, in science process skill's field, the experimental group showed the significant higher improvement than the comparative one, especially in the subordinate area of basic science process skill. Finally, teachers who instructed students open-inquiry lesson thought open-inquiry lesson is the self-directed problem solving learning which raise the student's science process skill and interest. And the teachers thought the obstacles to instruct open-inquiry lesson are the lack of the student's cognition about open-inquiry and the insufficient circumstance for open-inquiry lesson. Therefore the teachers argued that the prerequisite for settling open-inquiry lesson successfully is to develope open-inquiry lesson curricula and teaching materials.

  • Nowadays, the public as well as science educators pays much attention to the fourth industrial revolution and wonders what will happen to the societies in the future. Thus, this study aimed at predicting the education environment which will be brought from the fourth industrial revolution, and suggesting the solutions or tasks to be investigated in science education. Through the literature review, this study categorized the major changes of future society into a wild fluctuation of job market, the shift from possession-based economy to sharing economy, post-urbanized and distributed system, and the crisis of dehumanization. According to the four major changes, this study predicted the future environment that will occur to the educational system. First, the students should the competences necessary for the future and the school curriculum will be changed in terms of width and depth. Second, sharing economy may bring about the open platform similar to MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) or TED. Third, the manifestation of artificial intelligence in education will enable the individual and paced learning, and thanks to the change, the concept of distributed cognition will be more focused in education research. Fourth, the collaborative learning and character education should be more stressed to resist the dehumanization. This study suggests relevant tasks and issues that should be tackled for the successful change in primary and secondary schools.
