  • In this paper, the use of Bayes factors and the deviance information criterion for model selection are compared in a Bayesian accelerated life testing setup. In Bayesian accelerated life testing, the most used tool for model comparison is the deviance information criterion. An alternative and more formal approach is to use Bayes factors to compare models. However, Bayesian accelerated life testing models with more than one stressor often have mathematically intractable posterior distributions and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are employed to obtain posterior samples to base inference on. The computation of the marginal likelihood is challenging when working with such complex models. In this paper, methods for approximating the marginal likelihood and the application thereof in the accelerated life testing paradigm are explored for dual-stress models. A simulation study is also included, where Bayes factors using the different approximation methods and the deviance information are compared.

  • In this paper we propose smooth nonparametric estimator of Mean Residual Life(MRL) based on a complete sample. This estimator is constructed using estimator of cumulative failure rate which is derived as the maximum likelihood estimate of cumulative failure rate in the class of distributions which have piecewise linear failure rate functions between each pair of observations. We derive the asymptotic properties of the our estimator. The proposed estimator is compared with previously known estimator by Monte Carlo study.

  • Two imperfect repair models for system are considered, one introduced by Brown and Proschan(1983) and the other by Lee and Seoh(1999). We, in this paper, after assigning repair costs to the system, optimize both repair models, when the underlying life distributions of the system are exponential, uniform and Weibull.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fatigue life at the rib weldment of generator shaft. In order to do it, the stress distributions at the weldment under design loading condition were evaluated using FEA and analytical approach. The fatigue strengths of the as welded and toe machined rib specimen were estimated using 3-points bending fatigue test. Based on the fatigue test results, the S-N curve far the rib weldment of the generator shaft with post treatment was established.

  • Recently, Sati and Gupta (2015) proposed two measures of uncertainty based on non-extensive entropy, called the dynamic cumulative residual Tsallis entropy (DCRTE) and the empirical cumulative Tsallis entropy. In the present paper, we extend the definition of DCRTE into the bivariate setup and study its properties in the context of reliability theory. We also define a new class of life distributions based on bivariate DCRTE.

  • In this paper the Rao-Blackwell and Lehmann-$Scheff{\acute{e}}$ Theorem are used to drive the minimum variance unbiased estimators of system reliability for a number of distributions when a system consists of n Components whose random life times are assumed to be independent and identically distributed. For the case of a negative exponential life time, we obtain the maximum likelihood estimator of the system reliability and compair it with minimum variance unbiased estimator of the system reliability.

  • A method of estimating B$_{\alpha}$ life of crack growth is proposed based on the linear elastic fracture mechanic model. It is assumed that the coefficients in the Paris-Erdogan equation are random variables and their distributions are estimated by the method of 2-stage estimation from the fatigue crack growth data. A case study is also given. is also given.

  • In this note, some comments concerning the testing procedures for the problems of stochastic comparison, testing IFR and testing NBU ageing properties are presented showing that the tests proposed in Belzunce, Candel and Ruiz(1998) are cumbersome to calculate and do not have as good asymptotic Pittman efficacies as simpler others already in the literature. This is done via new presentations of the measures on which Belzunce et al. base their tests.

  • The better mean residual life at $t_0\;(BMRL-t_0)$ class of life distribution is introduced by Kulasekara and Park (1987). They proved that the $BMRL-t_0$ class contains the DMRL class, but it is a proper subclass of the NBUE class. In this paper we develop a new family of tests for testing exponentiality against the $BMRL-t_0\;(WMRL-t_0)$ alternatives based on the goodness of fit approach. It is shown that the suggested test is better than the one introduced by Kulasekara and Park (1987) in the sense of Pitman asymptotic efficiency values.
