Recently the study on service robots has been proliferated in many fields, and there are active developments for indoor services such as supporting for elderly people. It is important for robot to recognize objects and situations appropriately for effective and accurate service. Conventional object recognition methods have been based on the pre-defined geometric models, but they have limitations in indoor environments with uncertain situation such as the target objects are occluded by other ones. In this paper we propose a Bayesian network model to reason the probability of target objects for effective detection. We model the relationships between objects by activities, which are applied to non-static environments more flexibly. Overall structure is constructed by combining common-cause structures which are the units making relationship between objects, and it makes design process more efficient. We test the performance of two Bayesian networks for verifying the proposed Bayesian network model through experiments, resulting in accuracy of $86.5\%$ and $89.6\%$ respectively.
It is difficult to analytically derive a volumetric displacement formula for a gerotor hydraulic motor due to the complexity of the geometric shape of its gear lobes. This work proposes an analytical method for the volumetric displacement, a relatively easy method based upon two physical concepts: conservation between hydraulic energy and mechanical shaft energy, and torque equilibrium for the rotor's motion. The first research using these concepts was conducted on inner and outer rotors rotating with respect to each rotor axis. This work represents the second report conducted on an inner rotor revolving as a planetary motion on the stationary outer rotor. The formula equations regarding the volumetric displacement and flow rate are derived, and the proposed formula about the volumetric displacement is proven to be the same as another analytical displacement formula: the so-called vane length method. From the formula, volumetric displacement is calculated for an example geometry of the gear lobes. The resultant displacement is confirmed to be the same as the value calculated from the chamber volume method. The proposed analytical formula can be utilized in the analysis and design of gerotor hydraulic motors. Because it is based on torque equilibrium, this formula can provide a better understanding of torque performance, such as torque ripple, in designing a gerotor type motor.

The crack initiation life evaluation which is the most commonly used approach in fatigue strength studies for the designers, is performed for the crankshaft of mid-size engine. In order to evaluate the fatigue strength, structural analysis model and applied loads on crankshaft are prepared based on the cyclic system. Using the response data of the finite element analysis, crack initiation life is predicted and plotted on crankshaft geometric model. In this analysis, general purpose programs such as PATRAN, NASTRAN and EMRC/NISA are actively utilized. Life distribution contour plots, which is not yet established as an active tool in actual design system of ship structure & components, are suggested and examples for active predicting procedure such as stress contour plotting in structure strength analysis, are illustrated. Additionally, several correlated equations for prediction of the crack initiation life are introduced and discussed to improve the fatigue strength prediction of crankshaft.

The objective of this work was finding out the most advisable testing conditions for an effective and robust characterization of the tensile strength (TS) of concrete disks. The independent variables were the loading geometry, the angle subtended by the contact area, disk diameter and thickness, maximum aggregate size, and the sample compression strength (CS). The effect of the independent variables was studied in a three groups of experiments using a factorial design with two levels and four factors. The likeliest location where failure beginning was calculated using the equations that account for the stress-strain field developed within the disk. The theoretical outcome shows that for failure beginning at the geometric center of the sample, it is necessary for the contact angle in the loading setup to be larger than or equal to a threshold value. Nevertheless, the measured indirect tensile strength must be adjusted to get a close estimate of the uniaxial TS of the material. The correction depends on the loading geometry, and we got their mathematical expression and cross-validated them with the reported in the literature. The experimental results show that a loading geometry with a curved contact area, uniform load distribution over the contact area, loads projected parallel to one another within the disk, and a contact angle bigger of $12^{\circ}$ is the most advisable and robust setup for implementation of BT on concrete disks. This work provides a description of the BT carries on concrete disks and put forward a characterization technique to study costly samples of cement based material that have been enabled to display new and improved properties with nanomaterials.

The internal pressure is a critical parameter for designing a pressure vessel. The static pressure that a pressure vessel must withstand is usually determined according to the various codes and standards with simple formula or numerical simulations considering the geometric parameters such as diameter and thickness of a vessel. However, there is no specific codes or technical standards we can use practically for designing of pressure vessels which have to endure the detonation pressure. Detonation pressure is a kind of dynamic pressure which causes an impulsive pressure on the vessel wall in a extremely short time duration. In addition, it is known that the magnitude of reflected pressure at the vessel wall due to the explosion can be over twice the incident pressure. Therefore, if we only consider the reflected pressure, the design of the pressure vessel can be too conservative from the economical point of view. In this study, we suggest a practical method to evaluate the magnitude of maximum allowable pressure that the pressure vessel can withstand against the detonation inside a vessel. As an example to validate the proposed method, we consider the pressure vessel containing hydrogen gas.
The purpose of this study was to establish an analytical framework and quantitative methodologies to analyze 'the cognitive effects of web map use' and to empirically test it. This experimental design was established based on the literature about spatial cognition. Accuracy, reaction time, and confidence within each participant were compared to measure the cognitive effects of web map use for wayfinding. Geometric accuracy of the cognitive maps was estimated and calculated based on the bidimensional regression. The experimental results showed that characteristics of map users and repetition of map use rather than types of map representation did significantly affect accuracy and reaction time of spatial cognition by using web maps. And confidence appeared to be low when the participants referred to both 2D and 3D maps for wayfinding tasks on the web maps. Understanding spatial cognition of web map users, which was suggested in the study, will help cartographers make more effectively-communicated maps.
The confined concrete stress-strain curves utilised in computational models of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns can have a significant influence on the accuracy of the predicted behaviour. A generic model is proposed for predicting the stress-strain behaviour of confined concrete in short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns subjected to axial compression. The finite element (FE) analysis is carried out to simulate the concrete confining pressure in short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns. The concrete confining pressure relies on the geometric and material parameters of CFST columns. The post-peak behaviour of the concrete stress-strain curve is determined using independent existing experimental results. The strength reduction factor is derived for predicting the descending part of the confined concrete behaviour. The fibre element model is developed for the analysis of circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST short columns under axial loading. The FE model and fibre element model accounting for the proposed concrete confined model is verified by comparing the computed results with experimental results. The ultimate axial strengths and complete axial load-strain curves obtained from the FE model and fibre element model agree reasonably well with experimental results. Parametric studies have been carried out to examine the effects of important parameters on the compressive behaviour of short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns. The design model proposed by Liang and Fragomeni (2009) for short circular, elliptical and octagonal CFST columns is validated by comparing the predicted results with experimental results.
Purpose : This article is to describe a modified device for intraoral radiography which was developed to obtain reproducible radiographic images for assessment of distal osseous defects of the mandibular second molar (2 Mm) after impacted third molar (3 Mm) surgery. Materials and Methods : A commercial available alignment system for posterior region was modified by adding a reference gauge pin (millimetric) and threading a hollow acrylic cylinder at the ring of the radiographic positioner to attach the X-ray collimator. The design included customized resin acrylic stent for the occlusal surface of the 2Mm in maximum intercuspal position, individualizing the biteblock positioner. Periapical radiographs were taken before and after surgical extraction of 3 Mm, employing the radiographic technique of parallelism described by Kugelberg (1986) with this modified film holder and inserting the gauge pin on the deepest bone probing depth point. Results : This technique permitted to obtain standardized periapical radiographs with a moderate to high resolution, repeatability, and accuracy. There was no difference between the measurements on the pre- and post-operative radiographs. This technique allowed better maintenance of the same geometric position compared with conventional one. The insertion of the gauge pin provided the same reference point and localized the deepest osseous defect on the two-dimensional radiographs. Conclusion : This technique allowed better reproducibility in posterior radiographic records (distal surface of 2 Mm) and more accurate measurements of radiographic bone level by the use of a millimetric pin.

Improvement in breakdown voltage ($BV_{ds}$) and speed of the device are the key issues among the researchers for enhancing the performance of HEMT. Increased speed of the device aspires for shortened gate length ($L_g$), but due to lithographic limitation, shortening $L_g$ below sub-micrometer requires the inclusion of various metal-insulator geometries like T-gate onto the conventional architecture. It has been observed that the speed of the device can be enhanced by minimizing the effect of upper gate electrode on device characteristics, whereas increase in the $BV_{ds}$ of the device can be achieved by considering the finite effect of the upper gate electrode. Further, improvement in $BV_{ds}$ can be obtained by applying field plates, especially at the drain side. The important parameters affecting $BV_{ds}$ and cut-off frequency ($f_T$) of the device are the length, thickness, position and shape of metal-insulator geometry. In this context, intensive simulation work with analytical analysis has been carried out to study the effect of variation in length, thickness and position of the insulator under the gate for various metal-insulator gate geometries like T-gate, $\Gamma$-gate, Step-gate etc., to anticipate superior device performance in conventional HEMT structure.
This is part of a study on the origin of modernist forms and settings. Forms in Modern Architecture are totally new as though they seemed to be originated from some remote culture. Archaeological studies and Laugier's primitivist attitude to the classical architecture provided a way leading, in the end, to pure structures and abstract forms. An application of the classical elements was combined with the ultimate image of nobility, simplicity and rationality. What the seventeenth and eighteenth century theorists realized in the ruines of the classical structures were not the ones with their original organic vitality but the deteriorated, naked and abstracted ones. The essence of the classical structures has been the one of the main references of the modern white architecture. Ration and Nature were the quintessential terms in the design process of the Enlightenment architects of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as they were in the twentieth century architecture. Pure geometric and symbolic forms were new inventions for the new revolutionary age after the development of architectural Styles, successive until Baroque and Roccoco, ceased to go on to the next phase. Many of their buildings appeared so modem in character, for they were omitted all but the essential structure and decoration. Other sides of rationality in the pre-modern age were evolved in terms of the paradigmatic research and the logic in structure. Durand developed a systematic typological approach to the forms. Geometry was the basis of his designs and his illustrations resembled endless simple geometrical problems. One of the other rational approaches was mainly developed by Viollet-le-Duc. To him, Gothic architecture was the model in which each members functioned actively and exerted counterpressure and the Middle Ages invented new fantastic forms. The several ways of rational approaches in architecture were led to the 'tabula rasa' planning in modern architecture. Nature was remained untouched and not deformed as Ledoux's houses in the $H{\hat{o}}tel$ de $Th{\acute{e}}lusson$ were setted on informal gardens. It is part of the modem image that Nature flows or interpenetrates through the white prisms of the strictest classical purity and machines.
