Factors Related to Paternal Disciplinary Practices of U.S. Families

  • This study examined the complex process of paternal disciplinary practices and identified the factors related to paternal disciplinary practices in an examination of the effects of cumulative risk factors on the ineffective disciplinary practices of fathers. The subjects for this study consisted of 200 fathers of six-year-old children attending childcare centers in Los Angeles. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data for the following variables: 1) family background characteristics; 2) child temperament; 3) marital & job satisfaction; 4) quality of life; 5) social support; 6) intergenerational transmission of parenting; and 7) paternal disciplinary practices. Descriptive analysis, zeroorder correlations, multiple regression analyses, and chisquare analyses were used for data description and analysis. This study indicates that the characteristics of the child, father, and contextual factors contribute to paternal disciplinary practices.

Early Childhood Teachers' Professionalism, Teaching Efficacy, and Teacher-child Interaction

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of early childhood teachers' professionalism and teaching efficacy on their teacher-child interaction. A total of 761 early childhood teachers working at childcare centers and kindergartens in South Korea were selected as the participants for the study. The study variables were measured using survey questionnaires. Pearson's correlation analyses and regression analyses along with Sobel test were conducted. The results demonstrated that early childhood teachers' teaching efficacy had a significant mediation effect on the relationship between their professionalism and teacher-child interaction. The results suggest the need to support early childhood teachers' recognition and development of professionalism as well as teaching efficacy that result in positive teacher-child interaction.

유아 대상 '채소와 과일, 유제품의 충분한 섭취'를 위한 영양교육 실시 및 효과 평가 (Implementation and Evaluation of Nutrition Education Programs Focusing on Increasing Vegetables, Fruits and Dairy Foods Consumption for Preschool Children)

  • The purpose of the study was to implement and evaluate a nutrition education program for preschool children. Applying the PRECEDE-PROCEED model, the nutrition education program was developed and focused on changing beliefs, increasing nutrition knowledge and consumption of vegetables & fruits (V/F) and dairy foods. Subjects were children attending a childcare center in Seoulwho were grouped into education (n = 33) and control group (n = 32). Education group received four sessions of nutrition education during 2011 fall. Both groups completed the questionnaire at pretest and posttest, measuring nutrition knowledge, beliefs, and preferences of V/F and eating behaviors. Compared to control group, education group made significant gains in total score of nutrition knowledge after the education (p < 0.05). In addition, the pretest-posttest changes in total score of beliefs regarding V/F consumption and eating behaviors were higher in the education group than in the control group (p < 0.05). Two groups were significantly different in the pretest-posttest changes in specific beliefs regarding the benefits of V/F consumption and some eating behavior. However, there were no changes in the preferences of vegetables or fruits between the two groups after the education. The consumption of V/F and dairy foods was not significantly different after the education. This study revealed that nutrition education for preschoolers was effective in improving nutrition knowledge and perceived benefits regarding V/F consumption and specific eating behavior. This study suggested that more intensive education is needed to induce changes in eating behaviors. This program can be used in nutrition education of children at the childcare centers or kindergartens.

영아반 보육교사의 교사민감성에 영향을 미치는 변인 분석: 정서안정성, 대인관계 스트레스, 근무환경을 중심으로 (An Analysis of Variables Affecting Teacher Sensitivity of Infant Classes in Childcare Centers: Focus on Emotional Stability, Interpersonal Relationship Stress and Work Environment Variables)

  • Objective: This study examined the correlation between variables influencing teacher sensitivity to infant classes in Educare Center teachers and teacher sensitivity, by classifying their personal psychological, socio-psychological, and work environment variables. Furthermore, it aimed to inquire the extent to which these variables influence teacher sensitivity. Methods: The study included 236 Educare Center teachers in charge of infant classes working in infant-caring facilities. Based on stepwise multiple regression analysis, a significance test was conducted for each variable. Results: Firstly, according to the correlations regarding teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, emotional stability showed significant positive correlation, while there were significant negative correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues,and parents; mean working hours in other places; and mean daily personal time. For insensitive interaction, there were significant negative correlations with emotional stability and mean daily break time, while there were significant positive correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues, and parents. Secondly, regarding the influences on teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, the most significant influences consisted in the relationships with colleagues and parents. On the other hand, for insensitive interaction, the most significant influences were the relationship with colleagues and emotional stability. Conclusion: Reducing interpersonal relationship stress and increasing the emotional stability of Educare Center teachers will increase their sensitivity level. Furthermore, the quality of care will be improved.

일본 영유아 교육·보육과정 탐색 (An exploratory study on curriculum for early childhood education and care in japan)

  • 본 연구는 2017년 개정된 일본 영유아 교육·보육과정의 구성체계와 개정중점을 탐색해 보는데 그 목적이 있다. 첫째, 2017년 개정 고시된 3기관(유치원, 보육소, 유보연계형 인정어린이원)의 영유아 교육·보육과정 구성체계는 다소 차이가 있으나 그 특성에 따라 보다 구체화하였으며, 공통적으로 개정중점을 같은 방향에서 제시하고 있다. 둘째, 교육·보육과정의 개정중점은 유아기까지 길러야 할 3가지 자질·능력을 정립, 10가지 유아상을 명확히 하고 있다는 점과 길러야 할 자질·능력과 유아상을 실천하기 위하여 커리큘럼·메니지먼트의 확립을 강조하고 있다는 점이다. 유아상에 제시한 내용이 영유아의 발달에 적합한지와 교사의 자율권을 보장하지 못하면서 지나치게 커리큘럼·메니지먼트의 확립을 강조하고 있지 않는지에 대한 교육·보육관계자들의 검토가 필요한 것으로 보인다.

Health Risks Assessment in Children for Phthalate Exposure Associated with Childcare Facilities and Indoor Playgrounds

  • Objectives: This study assessed the health risks for children exposed to phthalate through several pathways including house dust, surface wipes and hand wipes in child facilities and indoor playgrounds. Methods: The indoor samples were collected from various children's facilities (40 playrooms, 42 daycare centers, 44 kindergartens, and 42 indoor-playgrounds) in both summer (Jul-Sep, 2007) and winter (Jan-Feb, 2008). Hazard index (HI) was estimated for the non-carcinogens and the examined phthalates were diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), dibutyl-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), and butylbenzyl phthalate (BBzP). The present study examined these four kinds of samples, i.e., indoor dust, surface wipes of product and hand wipes. Results: Among the phthalates, the detection rates of DEHP were 98% in dust samples, 100% in surface wipe samples, and 95% in hand wipe samples. In this study, phthalate levels obtained from floor dust, product surface and children's hand wipe samples were similar to or slightly less compared to previous studies. The $50^{th}$ and $95^{th}$ percentile value of child-sensitive materials did not exceed 1 (HI) for all subjects in all facilities. Conclusions: For DEHP, DnBP and BBzP their detection rates through multi-routes were high and their risk based on health risk assessment was also observed to be acceptable. This study suggested that ingestion and dermal exposure could be the most important pathway of phthalates besides digestion through food.

유아의 영상미디어 시청시간과 취침시간이 집행기능곤란에미치는 영향: 유아의 채널 선택권과 부모의 제한형 미디어중재의 조절된-조절된 매개효과 (The Effect of Children's Screen Media Time on Bedtime and Executive Function Difficulties: A Moderated-Moderated Mediation Effect of Children's Media Content Selection and Parental Restrictive Media Mediation)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the moderated-moderated mediating effects of children's media content selection and parental restrictive media mediation on the relationship between children's screen media time and executive function difficulties. Methods: A total of 693 parents of children aged 5~6 years participated in this study and were asked to answer all survey questions. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlation analysis using SPSS 27.0. Model 11 of PROCESS macro 4.3 was used to examine the moderated-moderated mediation model. Children's gender, age, childcare enrollment status, and household income were included in the analyses as covariates. Results: The moderated-moderated mediating effects of children's media content selection and parental restrictive media mediation were found to be significant. Specifically, bedtime mediated the relationship between screen media time and executive function difficulties only when parents did not appropriately implement restrictive mediation and children freely selected media content. Conclusion/Implications: It is recommended that parents understand the importance of implementing restrictive media mediation and selecting appropriate media contents for their child to prevent executive function difficulties in early childhood. Also, child education or day-care centers should offer education program about appropriate media use to reach more parents.

보육교사의 전문성 인식, 학습민첩성, 긍정심리자본이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Child Care Teachers' Professionalism, Learning Agility and Positive Psychological Capital on Their Job Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 보육교사의 전문성 인식, 학습민첩성, 긍정심리자본 등이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향을 확인하여 보육교사의 긍정적인 직무 수행에 필요한 정책적 시사점을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전남 지역의 보육교사 283명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였고, 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 5년 이상의 경력을 가진 보육교사들이 전문성 인식과 긍정심리자본에 있어서 높은 수준을 보여주었다. 둘째, 보육교사의 직무만족도는 전문성 인식, 긍정심리자본, 학습민첩성의 순으로 높은 상관을 보였다. 셋째, 보육교사의 전문성 인식과 긍정심리자본이 직무만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 통해 보육교사의 전문성 인식, 학습민첩성, 긍정심리자본은 직무만족도를 설명하는 유의미한 변인임을 확인하였다. 따라서 어린이집에서의 직무만족도를 높이기 위해서는 전문 연수과정과 컨설팅 등을 지원하여 스스로 전문직업인이라는 인식을 갖도록 하고 나아가 교사들에게 보다 많은 자율성을 부여하며 수직적인 어린이집의 운영 시스템을 개선할 필요가 있다.

보육실습 개정안에 따른 어린이집 원장, 보육교사, 예비보육교사의 인식 및 요구 (Perception and need of directors, child care teachers, and pre-service teachers on revised child care practicum)

  • 본 연구는 2017년부터 본격적으로 적용되는 보육실습 개정안에 대한 어린이집 원장, 보육교사, 예비보육교사의 인식 및 요구를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 안면타당도와 문항의 내적 신뢰도를 구한 설문지를 어린이집 원장, 보육교사, 4년제 관련학과 재학생인 예비보육교사들을 대상으로 배부하고 독립표본 ⅹ2-검정과 t-검정, 분산분석(ANOVA)을 실시하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 어린이집 원장, 보육교사가 예비보육교사보다 보육실습 개정안에 대한 인식이 유의미하게 높았으며 어린이집 원장의 경우 경력과 상관없이 소지자격, 학력 수준이 높을수록 보육실습 개정안에 대해 자세히 인식하고 있었고 보육교사의 경우는 소지자격보다 개정과 관련된 재교육이 인식을 좌우하였다. 어린이집 원장, 보육교사, 예비보육교사 모두 보육실습 기간 연장에 긍정적이라고 하였다. 다만, 기간 연장에 따른 보육교사 및 예비보육교사의 실습지도와 실습 과정 수행의 부담감을 해소하기 위한 양성기관과 보육실습기관의 사전교육 및 협의체계가 필요하다고 하였다. 또한 보육실습기관의 질을 선별할 수 있는 방안 마련에 대한 추가 요구가 있는 바, 이와 관련한 정책적 대안이 필요하겠다. 본 연구는 보육실습 개정안의 성공적인 실행을 위한 방안을 마련하고자 하는데 그 의의를 찾을 수 있으며 추후 개정안의 보육현장 적용과 관련된 연구가 병행된다면 보다 더 실제적인 해결책을 제시해 주는데 도움을 줄 것으로 보인다.

어린이집 유형에 따른 보육교사의 이직의도에 관한 연구 (A Comparative Study on the Turnover Intention of Teacher by Child Care Center's Types)

  • 본 연구는 대전, 세종, 충 남북 지역의 어린이집에서 근무하는 보육교사 375명을 조사대상자로 하여 그들의 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 어린이집은 가정, 민간, 공공형, 법인 등의 4개 유형으로 나누어 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 보육교사의 이직의도 수준은 4개의 모든 집단에서 보통수준보다 높았으며, 집단별로 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인은 각 집단별로 다른 것으로 나타났다. 가정과 민간어린이집 보육교사는 직무스트레스의 영유아관리, 조직건강의 원장 리더십 영역으로 나타났다. 공공형 어린이집 보육교사는 직무스트레스의 행정업무, 조직건강의 원장 리더십 영역으로 나타났으며, 법인형태 어린이집 보육교사는 직무스트레스의 동료 및 학부모와의 관계, 조직건강의 교사능력 영역으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과에 기초하여 어린이집 유형에 따른 보육교사의 이직의도를 감소할 수 있는 집단별 맞춤형 방안을 처음으로 제시했다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
