  • To match the dynamic lower voltage of a fuel cell stack and the required constant higher voltage (400V) of a DC bus, an H-type structural Boost three-level DC-DC converter with a wide voltage-gain range (HS-BTL) is presented in this paper. When compared with the traditional flying-capacitor Boost three-level DC-DC converter, the proposed converter can obtain a higher voltage-gain and does not require a complicate control for the flying-capacitor voltage balance. Moreover, the proposed converter, which can draw a continuous and low-rippled current from an input source, has the advantages of a wide voltage-gain range and low voltage stress for power semiconductors. The operating principle, parameters design and a comparison with other converters are presented and analyzed. Experimental results are also given to verify the aforementioned characteristics and theoretical analysis. The proposed converter is suitable for application of fuel cell systems.

  • This paper proposes the aggregated modeling and control of integated boost-flyback converter (IBFC) for understanding of dynamics characteristic and designing of relevant controller. The basic concept of the aggregated modeling is to substitute the boost or the flyback converter with an equivalent current source. Since each converter with equivalent current source corresponds to the basic boost and flyback converters, the overall mathematical process is significantly simplified for the modeling. Afterwards each result is combined to construct the complete model of the IBFC, and the relevant controller is designed through the achieved small-signal model. Simulation and experimental results show excellent agreement with the theoretical expectations.

  • In this paper a DSP based control scheme for the interleaved boost converter is presented. The mathematical model for the interleaved boost converter operating in a continuous inductor current mode is developed. A state-space averaging technique is used for modeling the converter system. A fixed frequency sliding mode controller is designed to ensure current distribution between the two converter modules and to achieve the load voltage regulation simultaneously. Necessary and sufficient conditions, using variable structure theory, are derived for the sliding mode to exist. The range of sliding mode controller coefficients is also determined. The designed controller capability, load distribution among the individual boost cells and load voltage regulation against source and load disturbances, are demonstrated through PSIM simulation results. A real-time controller based on ADMC401 DSP is developed. Experimental results are provided to validate the proposed control scheme.

  • The Z-source inverter (ZSI) provides unique features such as the ability to boost dc voltage with a single stage simple structure. Although the dc capacitor voltage can be boosted by a shoot-through state, the voltage stress across the switching devices is rapidly increased, so high switching device power is required at the ZSI. In this paper, algorithms for minimizing the voltage stress are suggested. The possible operating region for obtaining a desired ac output voltage according to both the shoot-through time and active state time is investigated. The reference capacitor voltages are derived for minimizing the voltage stress at any desired ac output voltage by considering the dc input voltage. The proposed methods are carried out through the simulation studies and experiments with 32-bit DSP.

The power factor correction circuit using boost converter used in input of power source is studied in this paper. In a boost power factor correction circuit there are two feedback control loops, which are a current feedback loop and a voltage feedback loop. In this paper, it is analyzed regulation performance of output voltage and compensator to improve of transient response that presented at continuous conduction mode(CCM) of boost PFC circuit. The validity of designed boost PFC circuit is confirmed by simulation and experimental results.

  • An optimal operation method based on weighted efficiency for a two-stage boost converter is proposed in this study. Detailed loss analysis of the converter is performed to derive the optimal operation method according to the load and input voltage fluctuations, and the optimal DC-bus voltage is derived by applying the weighted efficiency method. The proposed method can satisfy optimal efficiency in the main operation region without a complicated control method. Using 1kW typical two-stage boost converter and is verified three types of weighted efficiency formulas and loss analysis are utilized to derive high-efficiency optimal DC-bus voltage from each load range.

  • A novel two stage soft-switching ac-to-dc convener with power factor correction is proposed. The proposed convener provides zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition to main switch of boost pre-regulator without auxiliary switch. Comparing to the conventional two stage approach(ZVS-PWM boost rectifier followed by off-line ZVS dc-dc step down converter), the proposed approach is simple and reducing EMI noise problem. A new simple DC-linked energy feedback circuit provides zero-voltage-switching condition to boost pre-regulator without imposing additional voltage and current stresses and loss of PWM capability. Operational principle, analysis, control of the proposed converter together with the simulation results of 1KW prototype are presented.

  • Multi-level converter that is high-capacity electric power conversion system is used widely to electric motor drive system and FATCs(Flexible AC Transmission Systems). H-Bridge converter has been prevalently applied to shunt-type system because it can be easily expanded to the multi-level. In steady states, converter is normally operated in the range of 0.7∼0.8 of modulation Index. Even though zero vectors are not imposed to high modulation index, DC-Link voltage Is constant. It means that converter has another boost vector except for zero vectors among several vectors in 3-level converter. This paper has examined the principle of boost vector and investigated the difference between another boost vector and zero vectors in 3-level converter. In addition, this paper has analysed and compared the charging currents and the capacitor voltages of two topologies. The currents and voltages are related to reference voltage. Therefore, it proposed the calculation method for the voltage ripple and the charging current of each capacitor and compared various DC-Link voltage control methods through the simulation.

  • In this paper, we realize the active PFC(Power Factor Correction) system of BF(Boost Forward) converter with PWM-PFM(Pulse Width Modulation-Pulse Frequency Modulation) control technique to control DC output voltage, to remove the noise like harmonics at output voltage, and to control the input current with sinusoidal wave synchronized by the source voltage. To achieve the desired load voltage and improved PFC, we first implement current shaping control at the inverting stage and make the converted output DC voltage with forward converter. After making the ratio of output voltage to current as 50V/1A and the duty ratio greater than 0.5. When input voltage is 30V and boost inductance is 1.1mH. we control the voltage changing rate according to the variation of load resistance using a PWM-PFM control technique. And finally we prove experimentally, we attenuated its harmonics and improved PF up to 0.96 using the current shaping technique.
