A Study on Selection of Effective Supplier and Analysis of Evaluation Structure in Supply Chain Management (공급체인 관리하에서 효율적인 협력업체 선정 및 평가구조 분석에 관한 연구)

  • In supply chain management, supplier capacity is very important to meet the customer demand quickly. This paper studies a supplier evaluation structure and then suggests a methodology using fuzzy theory for selecting an effective supplier. Several quantitative and qualitative evaluation factors should be analyzed in the evaluation structure. The qualitative factors includes not only product and service qualities but financial condition. The methodology deals with both the quantitative and qualitative factors together through fuzzy inference. A case study is also presented to show how to choose the best one among potential suppliers.

  • In many industries, competitive advantage is rapidly shifting to the management of suppliers. Especially, in the automotive industry, suppliers' manufacturing performance influences the quality of automobiles which are assembled by motor companies. This study seeks to identify dominant types of supplier relations and to Examine suppliers' performance difference according to types of supplier relations. The findings indicate that the supplier's production performance in the cooperative relationship is higher than that of the suppliers in the other relationships . And then this study examines the relationships between interfirm asset specificity and suppliers' performance. The findings indicate that the greater the interfirm human asset cospecialization and physical asset specialization, the higher the supplier's market and production performance.

  • This paper posits that arm's length buyer-supplier relationship as the intermediate type between market exchange relations and strategic partnership might be advisable, and information technology may have a role as a mechanism actualizing the effects of such arm's length relationship by strategic supply-line diversification. Based on the theoretical analysis on interactive feedback relationships among IT level, buyer-supplier relationships, and supply chain structure, we suggest a set of advisable buyer-supplier relationship type for efficient supply chain management. Also, doing so would be helpful in suggesting a dynamic IT investment and adoption model appropriate for the establishment of productive buyer-supplier relationship, and further in providing theoretical foundations and practical guidelines on the role and function of B-to-B E-commerce for efficient SC integration.

Dynamic Supplier-Managed Inventory Control and the Beneficial Effect of Information Sharing (공급자 주도의 동적 재고 통제와 정보 공유의 수혜적 효과 분석에 대한 연구)

  • This paper deals with a supplier-managed inventory(SMI) control for a two-echelon supply chain model with a service facility and a single supplier. The service facility is allocated to customers and provides a service using items of inventory that are purchased from the supplier, Assuming that the supplier knows the information of customer queue length as well as inventory position in the service facility at the time when it makes a replenishment decision, we identify an optimal replenishment policy which minimizes the total supply chain costs by reflecting these information into the replenishment decision. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the SMI strategy can be more cost-effective when the information of both customer queue length and inventory position is shared than when the information of inventory position only is shared.

The Impact of Information Sharing Under Opportunism in Supplier-Buyer Relationships: An Empirical Analysis

  • We examine the value of information sharing in the context of supplier-buyer relationships after controlling for trading partners' opportunism. Given that trading partners' opportunism is not randomly chosen, we explicitly incorporate their self-selection process into our estimation procedure by employing Heckman's self-selection model. According to our analysis, firms that have built safeguards via mutual trust, commitments and information sharing experience less opportunistic risk in supplier-buyer relationships. Our findings also suggest that information sharing has a positive impact on firm performance after controlling for opportunism. Further, firms that are less exposed to trading partners' opportunistic risk have achieved a higher performance than others that are more exposed. Importantly, higher performance for those firms with less opportunistic risk is driven by safeguards in supplier-buyer relationships as well as information sharing. Our findings can be applied for systems analysts to design information systems of supplier-buyer transactions.

  • Competitive international business environment has forced many firms to focus on supply chain management to cope with highly increasing competition. Hence the supplier selection is the most important decision of a company. Because it has a direct effect on cost reduction and quality, profitability and flexibility improvement of a company, so the right supplier selection significantly affect on the organization's efficiency and effectiveness and competitiveness. The primary research objects of this study is to evaluate an importance of supplier selection factors as an index and to present the evaluation model for supplier selection. For this purpose, this study adopts the AHP method to calculate the importance of supplier selection factors. In this study, 16 factors which affect on the supplier selection decision making are classified into three factors-product supply related factor, product related factor, management ability related factor.

  • Purpose - In case of automobile parts, there has been a lot of progress in the study on supplier development plans and SCM in industrial progress study as well as on the relationship between ERP and SCM. But supplier development program providers have researched on SCM performance in accordance with the interests of the supplier development program most, thus, buyers were knowledgeable about the earlier program performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to prove correlation factor, supplier factor, purchaser factor affecting SCM performance and ERP activating diffusion through the process of supplier development. Supplier development maturity formation model is considered important variables as mediators related to the procedure. Finally, the performance formation model of the supplier development maturity through supplier development factor would be presented as the outcome of this study. Research design, data, and methodology - Data gathering was as follows: questionnaires were delivered to 87 companies that have business connection with H Company. The empirical research to test our hypothesis was grounded on statistical analysis (adapting SPSS 19.0 & AMOS 19.0). The hypothesis is that the supplier development factor variables consist of correlation factor, supplier factor, purchaser factor, and have non-negative effects on the next variables: mediators such as supplier development maturity; and the supplier development maturity variables have a positive effect on the next variables: ERP activating diffusion, ERP activating diffusion has a non-negative effect on supply chain performance. Second, supplier development factor has significant effects on supplier development maturity. Third, mediator such as supplier development maturity significantly affects ERP activating diffusion. Finally, ERP activating diffusion has significant impacts on SCM performance. This study makes a meaningful contribution to further appreciation on how supplier development maturity formation affects SCM performance. This study shows implications. First, there would not have been dealt with introducing the concept of supplier development maturity. Second, through empirical analysis and provider factors, the providers will develop the maturity that affect interactive factors between purchaser and supplier.

  • Discovering the suppliers capable of manufacturing the parts that satisfy buyer requirements via current online market places remains difficult due to semantic differences between what the suppliers can produce and what the buyer wants to acquire. One of the promising approaches to overcome the semantic difference is to adopt an ontology to describe the suppliers' manufacturing capabilities and the buyer requirements that range widely from manufacturing costs to eco-friendly design. Such an ontology dedicated to supplier discovery has yet to be developed. MSDL(Manufacturing Service Description Language) provides the basis for defining terms and their relationships in the ontology. Thus, the objective of this paper is to extend MSDL into a new ontology suitable for supplier discovery in mold manufacturing industry. In addition, a new ontology development method for supplier discovery will be proposed. Finally prototype demonstrations are provided to show a feasibility of the proposed ontology in mold manufacturing domains.

The Impact of Supplier Involvement, Customer Involvement, and Employee Learning/Training on Product Quality and Organizational Performance (공급자참여와 고객참여 및 학습·훈련이 품질성과와 기업성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates the impact of supplier involvement, customer involvement, and employee training on product quality and organizational performance. Based on literature review, this study develops hypotheses and tests them by employing a structural equations model. Using survey data of 193 firms from 22 manufacturing industries, this study empirically shows that the activities for supply chain quality management (SCQM) enhance the quality and organizational performance. Specifically, quality leadership is revealed to be an antecedent of other SCQM activities. The most contributable finding is, while the supplier involvement and employee training directly enhance the organizational performance, customer involvement indirectly improves it via quality performance.

Evaluation of Quantity Discounts for Buyer's Stocking Risk

  • Quantity discounts provide a practical foundation for supply chain inventory policies, improving the supplier's profit and reducing the buyer's inventory cost simultaneously. Traditional quantity-discount research, which deals with inventory coordination between a buyer and a supplier, is extended to a stationary stochastic environment. This research shows that the magnitude of the optimal discounts scheduled by the deterministic quantity discount models may not be large enough to cover the buyer's additional inventory stocking risks under uncertain conditions. As a result, the buyer's total inventory cost may often increase rather than decrease. In contrast, the proposed model allows the supplier to identify the discount level, which shares the buyer's amplified risk associated with temporary overstocking and ensures that both buyer and supplier benefit economically. The performance of the proposed model was tested in the continuous review environments via numerical experiments. The experimental results support the proposed method as a feasible alternative in coordinating inventory decisions under stochastic demand.
