  • This research aims to investigate elementary school teacher's perception and needs of computer and information literacy education to provide basic materials so that computer and information literacy education converges with related subject and can be done in various educational contexts. In order to achieve the goal for this research, we conducted an online questionnaire survey on the current status of teachers, the perception and status of convergence education for computer and information literacy, and the needs for convergence education for computer and information literacy. As a result of the analysis, when the teacher majored in computer and information education or had experience in software education, the percentage of respondents who said that it is possible to converge for computer and information literacy is high. Also, It was found that the burden of following the class progress according to the curriculum was high. In the school environment, preparation for software tool was found to be insufficient. we suggested the strategic implications in terms of education direction, teacher training, education program, and learning tool based on the analysis results.

  • Recently, the artificial intelligence(AI) is used in various environments in life, and research on this is being actively conducted in education. In this paper, we designed a Design-Based Research(DBR)-based AI programming education program and analyzed the application of the program for the improvement of understanding of AI in elementary school. In the artificial intelligence education program in elementary school, we should considerthat itshould be used in conjunction with software education through programming activities, rather than creating interest through simple AI experiences. The designed education program reflects the collaborative problem-solving procedures following the DBR process of analysis - design - execution - redesign, allowing the real-world problem-solving activities using AI experiences and block-type programming language. This paper also examined the examples of education programs to improve understanding of AI by using Machine Learning for Kids and to draw implications for developing and operating such a program.

  • This paper aims to prepare basic design education materials explaining the design process of egg drop device by incorporating critico(-creative) thinking. To this end, in this paper, by utilizing the creative problem solving process and the elements and standards of critical thinking, 'the five-step creative engineering design education guidelines' have been prepared so that engineering freshmen can effectively participate in engineering design projects without major knowledge. We would like to apply them to the egg drop device design. The egg drop device design, which is experiment to make and drop a drop device that can protect an egg from breaking when it is dropped freely from high places, is an engineering design project that is widely used not only in elementary, middle and high school science events but also in engineering education courses under the name of 'stunt egg'. Perhaps the basic design education material on the egg drop device design incorporating critico(-creative) thinking in this paper will contribute to incorporating critico(-creative) thinking into engineering education, as well as to achieving the educational goals of the basic design subject.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition and qualities of early childhood coding education in childcare center teachers. Methods: 158 childcare center teachers responded to 56 questions on a questionnaire extracted and revised from previous research. Frequency analysis and one-way ANOVA were applied for the data analysis. Results: Many teachers agreed that the software education policy was timely appropriate. Most of them needed the education in order to improve children's creativity and problem solving ability, and answered that it is appropriate to start the education at age 5. Most of them recognized that small group and free choice activities, play activities linked with daily life topics and coding programs by the childcare center teachers were desirable as educational methods. Provision of educational HW/SW environment was a relatively important element for effective implementation of the education. The coding educational qualities perceived by the teachers were not high, and were related to the age of the children they were in charge of and their computer literacy. Conclusion/Implications: The recognition of childcare center teachers was relatively positive, but it is necessary to educate the teachers to improve their recognition and qualities of the education in consideration of teachers' variables.

  • As the software education which utilizes the virtual reality in the education field becomes more interested in the teachers and the students, researches are being conducted for the education of virtual reality contents production. The purpose of this study is to analyze the curriculum, outcomes, and evaluation results of virtual reality contents production for educational students, elementary school students, and middle school students. As a result of analysis on each group, there was no difference in adaptability to specific tools, differences in ability of object production in production, and self-confidence and interest in production and utilization of virtual reality in learning attitude.

  • There are concerns that the recent surge in multicultural families and the continuation of non-face-to-face education, such as remote classes caused by COVID-19, are causing educational gaps among lower grades in elementary school. In particular, the importance of reading, writing and listening to our language should be established in lower grades of elementary school. Therefore, the research has recently developed contents that can enhance understanding by utilizing highly interested artificial intelligence tools and provide interesting Korean language education through play. In the future, there will be various attempts for artificial intelligence tools to be used in lower-grade elementary school education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the conceptions toward ICT in students who are currently enrolled in giftedness in invention classes. A total of 147 students at the junior and high school level responded to a 33 item questionnaire. Results show that these students consider ICT as very important and that it will become more important in the future. They also indicated that they frequently use ICT in their studies and also in their work. But a majority of the students considered their level of expertise in the ICT area as 'moderate', and their application of the programs as 'elementary'. Thus it can be assumed that these students did not have enough opportunity to learn ICT related skills. These students also expressed the desire to receive systematic instructions in the ICT area beginning from simple application to program development. The students thought that ICT skills need to be incorporated into the invention education to lead to better inventions. Considering the fact that the ICT area is becoming increasingly important and that Korea is considered a representative country in ICT, the reality of ICT education does not stand up to expectations, and the creative software development capacity is relatively low. Therefore, there is a need to incorporate ICT contents into the education for the giftedness in invention classes, and also to form connections with software development and invention education.

  • As IT technology improves, software is being more and more important. Industry demands higher level of programming ability from university graduates. As a result, programming related courses already take higher possession of electronics department curricula. But even though the environment likewise computer laboratory is improved as much, and professors have tried to enhance the quality of their lectures and educational results, still programming education does not match the demand of our society and industry. In this paper, we introduce the overview of programming education in electronics department, KUT and discuss problems in programming language education especially for the 1st year students, since programming education to the 1st year university students becomes one of the most important part as it deals with fundamentals on programming language and we suggest its improvement directions in regards with students, teaching materials, professors, class size, and class hours.

  • In recent years, There is a growing demand for more instructional hours because of the shortage of classes required for the software education included in the 2015 Revised Practical Arts Curriculum of elementary schools. Therefore, the Korea Association of Information Education developed the Informatics Curriculums Standard Model from 2014 to 2016 to revise the next 2020 curriculum. However, the KAIE curriculum lacks linkages with secondary school informatics curriculum and is not composed of core concept-based achievement criteria so that teachers have a lot of difficulties in reconstructing and operating the KAIE curriculum. In this study, four core concepts of information ethics were selected by conducting Delphi survey focusing on the teachers of elementary schools. In other words, we selected the core concepts of the information ethics domain: internet etiquette, personal information protection, information life, and copyright protection. Also, we suggested 16 specific criteria for the core concepts.
