  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of social skills training (SST) for children in two different community settings, an elementary school and a child community center. Methods : Two separate groups of 15 children (10 boys and 5 girls) and 13 children (4 boys and 9 girls) participated in a SST program twice per week at an elementary school and a child community center, respectively. Age range of participants was from 8 to 10 years. Sixty-minute-long sessions of SST were continued twice per week for 4 weeks. Korean-Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL), Conner's Rating Scales, Korean-Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale (K-ARS), Social Skills Rating System (SSRS), and Matson's Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters (MESSY) were evaluated by their parents before and after the SST program. Results : Pre-and-post analysis of SST indicated no significant statistical differences in the elementary school group. However, the child community center group showed significantly increased scores for total social ability (p<.05) and decreased scores for attention problem (p<.05) on the K-CBCL. In addition, scores of MESSY were significantly increased (p<.05). These differences between the two groups were still significant after controlling pre-SST scores ; and difference of SST scores between the two groups disappeared after SST. Conclusion : Results suggest that SST in the community setting is an effective tool for prevention of social deficits and problems in attention by promoting social function and attention.

Third, based on the literature review and current situation investigation results, a program for improving social skills and competencies of children was developed. To verify the program, two groups composed of elementary children who are fourth grade to sixth grade were organized. The groups were a experimental group which was provided with a group counselling program and a control group with no program. The program was composed of twelve sessions throughout six weeks, and the subjects took social skill test after taking the program to verify educational effects. T-test were implemented to analyze difference of the test results of two groups statistically. As a result of a research, following major two findings were specified: (1) experimental group showed significant difference in the score of self-assertion, cooperation, and self-control, which indicates that the program was effective for social skill improvement: (2) according to the test result, the self-assertion, cooperation, and self-control skills were clearly improved. In conclusion, the program turned out to be an effective and a positive educational device to enhance social skills of the children. The program developing model were suggested to improve social skills of children in the state of family devision based on the study findings. The follow-up future studies should elaborate program models for various-aged children and for children with various learning styles. • This study focused on working women's perceptions of social attractiveness and their appearance management behavior. Social attractiveness is defined as individuals' achieved attractiveness which can be expressed through social expressive power or social skills rather than innate physical appearance. This study was empirically conducted through questionnaires distributed to 200 working women in South Korea. According to the results, the participants recognized four factors constituting social attractiveness: physical appearance management, business manners, social skills, and sexual attractiveness. When they were asked to assess themselves on the same measures, these characteristics were further classified into six factors: business manners, feminine attractiveness, fashion sense, sociability, communication skills, and active appearance management. Their self-perceived social attractiveness was found to be influenced by all these factors in the order of feminine attractiveness, business manners, sociability, communication skills. Based on the self-presentation tendencies, the participants were classified into various groups, including the passive management group, daily life-oriented management group, work-oriented management group, neutral group, and active management group. The relative importance of the social attractiveness components was found to differ by group, although working women in all groups rated weight management higher than appearance management behavior. This study has implications in that it facilitates an understanding of the concept of social attractiveness and also provides a foundation base in terms of beauty consulting and marketing for working women to improve their social attractiveness.

Methods : A total of 107 teenagers that participated in the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS$^{(R)}$) between 2011 and 2015 were analyzed using linear regression. Outcome measures used were the Korean version of Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), the Test of Adolescent Social Skills Knowledge-Revised (TASSK-R), and the Korean version of Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (K-ADOS). Depression and anxiety were assessed by the Korean version of Child Depression Inventory (CDI), the Korean version of State and Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and the Korean version of Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). Results : As a result, depressive symptoms measured by CDI (p<0.05) and anxiety symptoms measured by STAIC (p<0.05) had significant influence on score change of social interaction domain of ADOS. It remained significant even after the baseline score was adjusted as covariates (p<0.05). Conclusion : We observed that pre-treatment anxiety and depressive symptoms of teenagers had significant effects on the treatment outcome of PEERS$^{(R)}$, especially in terms of face-to-face social interaction.

The subjects of the study were children with developmental disabilities at a special school, and the animal-mediated therapy program consisted of 12 sessions. The study was divided into experimental and control groups and conducted pre- and post-test by measurement items. SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze the data. First, children with developmental disabilities in the experimental group who participated in the animal-mediated therapy program showed a significant difference (z=-2.20, p<.05) in the overall social-emotional development compared to the control group, and statistically significant values were found in the subfactors of non-dependence on teachers, interaction with peers, and achievement motivation. Second, the experimental group who received animal-mediated therapy showed a significant effect (z=-2.20, p<.05) in all factors of learning-related social skills. In conclusion, animal-mediated therapy was found to have a positive effect on the social-emotional development and learning-related social skills of children with developmental disabilities. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that more specific and systematic programs should be developed and applied to enhance the social-emotional development and learning-related social skills of children with developmental disabilities for a healthy life.
