When monitoring an instrumental process, one often collects a host of data such as characteristic signals sent by a sensor in short time intervals. Characteristic data of short time intervals tend to be autocorrelated. In the instrumental processes often the practice of adjusting the setting value simply based on the previous one, so-called 'adjacent point operation', becomes more critical, since in the short run the deviations are harder to detect and in the long run they have amplified consequences. Stochastic modelling using ARIMA or AR models are not readily usable here. Due to the difficulty of dealing with autocorrelated data conventional practice is resorting to choosing the time interval where autocorrelation is weak enough then to using I-MR control chart to judge the process stability. In the autocorrelated instrumental processes it appears that using the Shewhart chart and the time interval data where autocorrelation is relatively not existent turns out to be a rather convenient and very useful practice to determine the process stability. However in the autocorrelated instrumental processes we intend to show that one would presumably do better using the EWMA control chart rather than just using the Shewhart chart along with some arbitrarily intervalled data, since the former is more sensitive to shifts given appropriate weights.

Multivariate control charts for monitoring mean vector of several related quality variables with combine-accumulate approach and accumulate-combine apprach were investigated. Shewhart chart is also proposed to compare the performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts. Numerical comparisons show that CUSUM and EWMA charts are more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts, and multivariate charts based on accumulate- combine approach is more efficient than corresponding multivariate charts based on combine-accumulate approach.

Markovian EWMA control chart for simultaneously monitoring mean vector of the several correlated quality characteristics is investigated. Properties of multivariate Shewhart chart and EWMA chart are evaluated for matched FSI (fixed sampling interval) and VSI(variable sampling interval) scheme. We obtained VSI EWMA chart is more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts. And, we obtained stablized numerical results with Markov chain method when the number of transient state is greater than 100.
This research investigates economic characteristics of 2 of 2 runs rules under the Shewhart $\bar{X}$ control chart scheme. A Markov chain approach is employed in order to calculate the in-control average run length (ARL) and the average length of analysis cycle. States of the process are defined according to the process conditions at sampling time and transition probabilities are derived from the state definitions. A steady state cost function is constructed based on the Lorezen and Vance(1986) model. Numerical examples show that 2 of 2 runs rules are economically superior to the Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart in many cases.

In this paper, we propose EWMA control charts using the life time data for the system with the constant failure rate, which were drawn from the fixed sampling interval without replacement(with replacement), and investigate the power of detection of EWMA by comparing ARL of EWMA control charts with one of Shewhart control charts.

Recent studies have shown that the $\bar{X}$ chart with variable sampling intervals(VSI) and the $\bar{X}$ chart with variable sample size(VSS) are much quicker than Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart in detecting shiks in the process. Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart has been beneficial to detect large shifts but it is hard to apply Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart in detecting moderate shifts in the process mean. In this article the $\bar{X}$ chart using variable sample size(VSS) and variable sampling Intervals(VSI) has been proposed to supplement the weak point mentioned above. So the purpose of this paper is to consider finding the design parameters which minimize expected loss costs for unit process time and measure the performance of VSSI(variable sample size and sampling interval) $\bar{X}$ chart. It is important that assignable causes be detected to maintain the process controlled. This paper has been studied under the assumption that one cycle is from starting of the process to eliminating the assignable causes in the process. The other purpose of this article is to represent the expected loss costs in one cycle with three process parameters(sample size, sampling interval and control limits) function and find the three parameters.
Control charts are important tools of statistical quality control. In 1956, Duncan first proposed the economic design of $\bar{x}-control$ charts to control normal process means and insure that the economic design control chart actually has a lower cost, compared with a Shewhart control chart. An moving average (MA) control chart is more effective than a Shewhart control chart in detecting small process shifts and is considered by some to be simpler to implement than the CUSUM. An economic design of MA control chart has also been proposed in 2005. The weaknesses to only the economic design are poor statistics because it dose not consider type I or type II errors and average time to signal when selecting design parameters for control chart. This paper provides a construction of an economic-statistical model to determine the optimal parameters of an MA control chart to improve economic design. A numerical example is employed to demonstrate the model's working and its sensitivity analysis is also provided.

Multivariate control statistics to simultaneously monitor both means and variances for several quality variables under multivariate normal process are proposed. Performances of the proposed multivariate charts are evaluated in terms of average run length(ARL). Multivariate Shewhart chart is also proposed to compare the performances of multivariate exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA) charts. A numerical comparison shows that multivariate EWMA charts are more efficient than multivariate Shewhart chart for small and moderate shifts and multivariate EWMA scheme based on accumulate-combine approach is more efficient than corresponding multivariate EWMA chart based on combine-accumulate approach.
Whereas is non-symmetrical distribution manufacturing process the traditional X-chart by Shewhart is not plotted relatively on the central line but plotted on the skew of upper-hand side or lower-hand side. That is to say, for the purpose of producing either upper-specification-oriented items or lower-specification-oriented items, and when we carry out tighter control so as to have them pass only its specifications, the distribution shape naturally has a non-normal distribution. In the Shewhart X-chart, which is the most widely used one in Korea, such skewed distributions make tile plots to be inclined below or above the central line or outside the control limits although no assignable causes can be found. To overcome such short comings is non-normally distributed processes, a distribution-free type of confidence interval can be used, which should be haled on order statistics. This thesis is concerned with the design of control chart based on a sample median which is easy to use in practical situation and therefore properties for non-normal distributions, such as Gamma, Beta, Lognormal, Weibull, Pareto, and Truncated-normal distributions, may be easily analyzed. To enhance this improvement, I proved the property of practical applications of control chart method by comparing and analyzing the case studies of practical application of special purpose control chart method, and also by introducing the new designed median control chart.
