  • Time-frequency analysis (TFA) method was applied to identify the integrity of the internal local surface of a pipe where some chemical corrosions are likely to occur by acid mixed in the coolant of nuclear power plants. The spalling out of internal material pieces by corrosion induces some transient signals and the change of structural vibration of a local point in the pipe. It is therefore possible to detect the corrosion detachment through the measurement of the transient acoustic signals or the vibration signals. In this presentation, the TFA was configured on the vibrational signal data of the pipe and it is identified that the TFA can Provide an important information, i.e., the amplitude fluctuations in the instantaneous frequency of each characteristic frequency.

  • Mass estimation analysis of loose-parts in pressure vessel is necessary for the structural integrity assessment of pressure boundary in nuclear power plants. Mass of loose-parts can be generally estimated from the peak values and the center frequency of impact signals. Magnitude of impact signals is, however, inevitably attenuated according to the traveling distance of the signals and depending on the frequencies. Attenuation rate must be therefore carefully compensated for the precise estimation of loose-part mass. This paper proposes a new compensation method for the attenuation rate based on Bessel function instead of Hankel function in conventional method which has a limitation of usage in near the impact location. It was verified that the suggested compensating equation based on the Bessel function can be applied to the attenuation rate calculation without any limitation.

  • Core support barrel (CSB) assembly is one of the most important reactor internals structures supporting and protecting the nuclear core during normal operation and faulted events. For Yonggwang 3 and 4 (YGN 3&4), the adequacy of the analytical response prediction of reactor internals for flow induced vibration was demonstrated through the comprehensive vibration assessment program (CVAP) performed during hot functional test. Besides, the vibration characteristics of the CSB of operating nuclear power plant can be examined via the excore neutron noise monitoring signal. In this paper data from YGN 4 analyses, CVAP, and neutron noise monitoring system are compared and evaluated. In general, the results are comparable each other and conservative enough to ensure sufficient design margin and structural integrity. Further investigations on the modelling and analyses procedure are recommended to utilize the experimental results to the maximum extent. And collection of the neutron noise data is desired to serve as a baseline information.

  • This paper presents a new analytical model to suppress RLC resonance effects which inevitably occur in power/ground lines due to on-chip decoupling capacitor and other interconnect circuit parasitics (i.e., package inductance, on-chip decoupling capacitor, and output drivers, etc.). To characterize the resonance effects, the resonance frequency of the circuit is accurately estimated in an analytical manner. Thereby, a decoupling capacitor size to suppress the resonance for a suitable circuit operation is accurately determined by using the estimated resonance frequency. The developed novel design methodology is verified by using $0.18{\mu}m$ process-based-HSPICE simulation.

  • As the performance and density of IC (integrated circuit) devices increase, power and signal integrities in the global interconnects of advanced packaging technologies are becoming more difficult. Thus, the global interconnect technologies should be designed to accommodate increased input/output (I/O) counts, improved power grid network integrity, reduced RC delay, and improved electrical crosstalk stability. This requirement resulted in the fine-pitch interconnects with a low-k dielectric in 3D packaging or wafer level packaging structure. This paper reviews an organic-inorganic hybrid material as a potential dielectric candidate for the global interconnects. An organic-inorganic hybrid material called polysiloxane can provide spin process without high temperature curing, an excellent dielectric constant, and good mechanical properties.

  • It is very important for ultrasonic test method to evaluate the integrity of the class I components in nuclear power plants. However, as the rltrasonic test is affected by internal structures and configurations of test materials, backscattering, that is, time invariant noise is generated in large grain size materials. Due to the above reason, the received signal results in low signal to noise(S/N) ratio. Split spectrum processing(SSP) technique is effective to suppress the grain noise. The conventional SSP technique. however, has been applied to unique algorithm. This paper shows that MPO(minimization and polarity threshold) algorithm which two algorithms are applied simulatancously, was utilized, the signal processing time was shorten by using the new constant-Q SSP with the FIR filter which frequency to bandwidth ratio is constant and the optimum parameters were analysed for the signal processing to longitudinal wave and shear wave with the same requirements of inspection on nuclear power plant site. Moreover, the new ultrasonic test instrument, the reference block of the same product form and material specification, stainless stell test specimens and copper test specimens block of the same fabricated for the application of new SSP technique. As the result of experimental test with new ultrasonic test instrument and test specimens, the signal to noise ratio was improved by appying the new SSP technique.

  • Energy harvesting technology that converts the wasted energy resources into electrical energy is emerging as a semipermanent power source for self-powered electronics and wireless low-power sensor systems. Among the various energy conversion techniques, flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters (f-PEHs), using materials with piezoelectric effects, have attracted significant interest because they can harvest a small mechanical energy into electrical signals without constraints of time and space in various environments. In this study, we used a flexible piezoelectric composite film fabricated by dispersing BaHfxTi(1-x)O3 (x = 0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1) piezoelectric powders inside a polymeric matrix to facilitate f-PEHs. The fabricated f-PEH with optimal Hf contents (x = 0.05) generated a maximum output voltage of 0.95 V and current signal of 130 nA with stable electrical/mechanical disabilities under periodically bending deformations. In addition, we demonstrated a cantilever-type f-PEH and investigated its potential as a sensor by characterizing the output performance under mechanical vibrations at various frequencies. This study provides the breakthrough for realizing self-powered energy harvesting and sensing systems by adopting the lead-free piezoelectric composites under vibrational environments.

  • Recently, mobile devices have evolved into small computers with various functions according to user requirements. Careful attention must be paid to the design of the power supply network for the stable operation of the application processor (AP), the wireless communication modem, the high performance camera, and the various interfaces of the mobile device to implement various functions of the mobile device. In this paper, we analyzed and verified the method of optimizing the design parameters such as the position, capacity, and number of decoupling capacitors to meet the target impedance required by the driver IC chip to ensure the stability of the power supply network of mobile devices that should be designed as wiring type due to mounting density limitation. The proposed wired power supply network design method can be applied to various applications including high-speed signal transmission line in addition to mobile applications.

  • As semiconductor process rapidly developed, the density of chips becomes higher and the space between adjacent lines narrows smaller. This trend increases the capacitance and inductance in interconnects and the coupling-capacitance of adjacent lines grows even bigger than the self-capacitance of themselves, especially in global interconnects. Inductive and capacitive coupling observed in these phenomena may cause serious problems in signal integrity. This paper proposes a codeword generation technique using extra interconnect lines to reduce the crosstalk caused by inductive and capacitive coupling and to reduce dynamic power consumption considering probability of input data. To estimate the performance of the proposed technique, the experimental results have been obtained using FastCap, FastHenry and HSPICE, and it has been shown that the power consumption using the proposed technique has yielded approximately 15% less than the results of the previous technique.
