The purpose of this study was to assess musically gifted students'needs in order to develop the gifted curriculum in music. The survey was carried out with 103 musically gifted students who are being educated in institutes for the gifted. The survey asked the needs about components of the gifted curriculum in music: the educational objectives, contents, teaching strategies, evaluation as well as educational environment influencing on the curriculum. As for the objectives, the result showed the highest needs was the ability to communicate with audience by expressing one's feeling. For the high school students, a large number items had significant differences between the necessary level and the current level. As for the contents, the highest needs were the class piano, second instrument, and the experience of the musical field. High school students needed the second instrument more than middle school students did. As for the teaching strategies, the highest needs were the autonomous choice by learners, the instruction pursuing learners' interests, and the field work. As for the evaluation, the highest needs were the peer evaluation and the evaluation on the collaborative performance or team work. As for the educational environment, the gifted in music strongly needed spaces to practice instruments. Additionally, high school students needed a space to perform like a concert hall. Thus the gifted curriculum in music must be thoroughly developed based on the result above.
As the mobile market has been expanded and segmented, a mobile market for kids could be possibly appeared sooner or later. Then, it is necessary to develop a new contents for the new media - a mobile game hardware for kids. These days, kids are most interested in computer games, and they do not have enough time to play with peers. Therefore, in this paper, edutainment game contents based on the wireless internet, are developed. The game could supply kids' learning, fun and especially, peer interaction. In order to develop a game contents through user centered design process, the state of art in mobile hardware and contents was examined, a secondary research and interviews and survey was conducted to understand users. Then, when ideas for game contents has suggested, behavior prototype test was done to verify and modify contents. The suggested game contents in this study, is a occupation simulation game, in which kids simulate their own future career and learn related knowledge in a unintentional way. The result of the study suggests the new direction of edutainment game contents and platform. Also, this study shows the representation of user-centered contents developing process for kids, which could be helpful for the following studies.
The purpose of this study is to explore secondary school teachers' perceptions of student evaluations, focusing especially on students' performance in the classroom. The study selected Germany as a representative country where teachers' performance evaluation strongly affects students' school pathways. The researchers selected 4 English teachers and conducted in-depth interviews with them. The results indicated that German English teachers perceived students' performance as an individual evaluation and provided each student with oriented learning materials and evaluation results. The second, they used formative evaluations to confirm and motivate their students' learning process as well as peer assessments. The third, the German English teachers showed strong empowerment in the evaluation process. The fourth, they motivated to participation in-class activities teacher through performance evaluation considering fairness. Based on the results, future studies should need to observe real settings in the classroom and students' perceptions of their evaluations. the study also suggested using practical performance evaluations to enhance students' motivation and participation in the classroom. This study identified limitations of the research and made significant recommendations for future studies.

This study investigated 15 science teachers' perception and practice on free semester and science assessment. We analyzed frequencies of teacher choice for closed questions and used constant comparative method for teacher description and individual interview. Most teachers determined a low ranking for changes in assessment methods and mentioned a lack of objectivity on free semester assessment, unsystematic free semester assessment, and more importance on student activity and interest in science instruction. Most teachers understood process-based assessment as a direction of free semester assessment and teachers mentioned positive aspects for students or teacher difficulties dependent on their perception on process-based assessment. Half of the teachers failed to implement student self-assessment and student peer-assessment due to subjectivity and complexity. Some teachers did not provide feedbacks to students due to a lack of time and did not use certain assessment methods due to a lack of knowledge of the assessment. Teachers who did not have an experience of discussions in a teacher learning community mentioned reasons regarding a small number of the same grade teachers and inactive attitude of colleagues. Teachers who did not participate in professional development programs mentioned a lack of teacher understanding of free semester, participation of the teacher in charge, and teacher choice of participation as reasons.
The purpose of this study was to analyze responses as bystanders of middle school girls in a simulated cyberbullying situation. This study also aimed to examine effects of bullying, victimization, anger-out, and state-anger on responses from girls as bystanders. The participants were composed of 2nd or 3rd grade middle school girls(N=59). Responses were classified into 7 categories(using explicit language, attacking, pass, changing topic, comforting victims, others, and conformity). Of these, attackings were classified according to the target(bully, victim, both, and ambiguous object). It was again classified as 'attacking response' and 'helping response' and was scored and summed according to the strength of the response and used as a dependent variable. Collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, the most frequent response was 'the others'(41.69%) followed by 'using explicit language'(20.34%), 'passing'(13.56%), 'attacking bully'(8.81%), 'conformity'(8.64%), 'changing topic'(6.61%), and 'comforting victim'(0.34%). Second, responses of attacking victim were positively influenced by the previous bullying experiences and acting anger-out, and were negatively influenced by the previous victimization experience. State-anger has a positively influenced on responses of the attacking bully and the helping victim. None of the variables were significant influenced on responses of the attacking both and ambiguous object. These results will be useful data to help middle school girls as bystanders properly intervene in cyberbullying situation. Finally, the limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for further research.

The purpose of this study is to identify trends and potential themes of research on consumption of children and adolescents for 20 years by analyzing keywords. The keywords of 869 studies on consumption of children and adolescents published in journals listed in Korean Citation Index were analyzed using text mining techniques. The most frequent keywords were found in the order of youth, youth consumers, consumer education, conspicuous consumption, consumption behavior, and character. As a result of analyzing the frequency of keywords by dividing into five-year periods, it was confirmed that the frequency of consumer education was significantly higher betwn 2006 and 2010. Research on ethical consumption has been active since 2011, and research has been conducted on various topics instead of without a prominent keyword during the most recent 5-year period. Looking at the keywords based on the TF-IDF, the keywords related to the environment and the Internet were the main keywords between 2001 and 2005. From 2006 to 2010, the TF-IDF values of media use, advertisement education, and Internet items were high. From 2011 to 2015, fair trade, green growth, green consumption, North Korean defector youths, social media, and from 2016 to 2020, text mining, sustainable development education, maker education, and the 2015 revised curriculum appeared as important themes. As a result of topic modeling, eight topics were derived: consumer education, mass media/peer culture, rational consumption, Hallyu/cultural industry, consumer competency, economic education, teaching and learning method, and eco-friendly/ethical consumption. As a result of network analysis, it was found that conspicuous consumption and consumer education are important topics in consumption research of children and adolescents.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate on the application of the yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) lasers for acupoints irradiation. Methods : We conducted a systematic search for peer-reviewed studies published from inception to November 2023, in the following electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science in English, Science ON, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS) and Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) in Korean, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Wanfang in Chinese, and Japan Science Technology Information Aggregator, Electronic (J-STAGE) and Citation Information by NII (CiNii) in Japanese. Inclusion criteria were original articles including clinical and experimental studies related with YAG lasers for acupoints including Ashi or meridian sinews. Results : Among the 8 selected studies, there were 7 studies on human subjects and 1 study on animals, 7 studies on Nd:YAG (1,064 nm) laser, and 1 study on Er:YAG (2,940 nm) laser. A total of 16 acupoints were used, 15 of which were in the face and 1 of which was located in the foot. In addition, there were two studies using Ashi. 4 studies looked at the effect of pain relief, 2 studies looked at safety, 1 study looked at changes in blood flow, and 1 study looked at the effect of skin care. There were no reported adverse events, and the YAG laser was confirmed to be safe and effective in pain relief, beautifying the skin, and increasing blood flow. Conclusions : We suggest that high intensity YAG lasers can be applied to laser acupuncture or laser moxibustion. YAG lasers are considered to be worth using for various clinical indications of Korean medicine because of photobiomodulation effects, analgesic action, and deep penetration depth. Further scientific research and clinical evidences should be warranted.

The purposes of the study are to portray Korean beginning secondary science teachers' ways of arranging science content, sense-making strategy, and factors contributing to the tensions between teachers' intentions and actual practice. Six beginning secondary science teachers participated in this study. Science classes taught by the participating teachers were observed and videotaped. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for science teachers participated in this study after science classes were observed. Instructional materials were also collected for each science class. Video- and audio-taped data were transcribed and analyzed using conceptual framework developed by the Michigan State University. The findings of this study produce the following conclusions: (1) beginning teachers' science classes are arranged in ways compatible to traditional school science, (2) frequently used sense-making strategies are procedural display and narrative reasoning, (3) tensions between beginning teachers' intentions and practice arise from two factors such as assessment and differences in educational views with peer teachers, and (4) learning experiences, lack of perceptions and preparations on reform science teaching, and the absence of systematic program for professional development programs for beginning science teachers are major obstacles to reform science teaching for beginning teachers.
It is difficult for mathematics teachers to develop mathematical modeling tasks and implement mathematical modeling lessons for their students. These difficulties serve as a reason why mathematical modeling lessons are not implemented well in school mathematics. In this study, we aimed to examine how preservice mathematics teachers (PMTs) modify mathematical modeling tasks in mathematics textbooks as a way to develop mathematical modeling tasks and how they implement the mathematical modeling lesson. In particular, we focused on how the openness and reality reflected in the task and the mathematical modeling process change as PMTs modify the tasks. We collected data through PMTs' evaluation reports on analyzing textbook tasks, task modification, lesson plans and implementations, peer evaluation, and self-evaluation. Then, we analyzed these data according to the case analysis process. The findings revealed that when PMTs modified the textbook task, they focused on and improved the openness and the defining variables and the model stages of mathematical modeling process. However, when PMTs implemented lesson, the openness and the defining variables and the model stages of mathematical modeling process were restricted again. PMTs did not focus on other stages. Based on these results, the theoretical and practical implications of the study was discussed.

Pub/sub system enables data users to access any necessary data without knowledge of the data producer and synchronization with the data producer. It is widely used as the middleware technology for the data-centric services. DDS (Data Distribution Service) is a standard middleware supported by the OMG (Object Management Group), one of global standardization organizations. It is considered quite useful as a standard middleware for US military services. However, it is well-known that it takes considerably long time in searching the Participants and Endpoints in the system, especially when the system is booting up. In this paper, we propose a discovery scheme to reduce the latency when the participants and Endpoints are densely distributed in a small area. We propose to modify the standard DDS discovery process in three folds. First, we integrate the Endpoint discovery process with the Participant discovery process. Second, we reduce the number of connections per participant during the discovery process by adopting the concept of successors in Distributed Hashing scheme. Third, instead of UDP, the participants are connected through TCP to exploit the reliable delivery feature of TCP. We evaluated the performance of our scheme by comparing with the standard DDS discovery process. The evaluation results show that our scheme achieves quite lower discovery latency in case that the Participants and the Endpoints are densely distributed in a local network.
