*-NOETHERIAN DOMAINS AND THE RING D[X]N*, II

  • Let D be an integral domain with quotient field K, X be a nonempty set of indeterminates over D, * be a star operation on D, $N_*$={f $\in$ D[X]|c(f)$^*$= D}, $*_w$ be the star operation on D defined by $I^{*_w}$ = ID[X]${_N}_*$ $\cap$ K, and [*] be the star operation on D[X] canonically associated to * as in Theorem 2.1. Let $A^g$ (resp., $A^{[*]g}$, $A^{[*]g}$) be the global (resp.,*-global, [*]-global) transform of a ring A. We show that D is a $*_w$-Noetherian domain if and only if D[X] is a [*]-Noetherian domain. We prove that $D^{*g}$[X]${_N}_*$ = (D[X]${_N}_*$)$^g$ = (D[X])$^{[*]g}$; hence if D is a $*_w$-Noetherian domain, then each ring between D[X]${_N}_*$ and $D^{*g}$[X]${_N}_*$ is a Noetherian domain. Let $\tilde{D}$ = $\cap${$D_P$|P $\in$ $*_w$-Max(D) and htP $\geq$2}. We show that $D\;\subseteq\;\tilde{D}\;\subseteq\;D^{*g}$ and study some properties of $\tilde{D}$ and $D^{*g}$.

INJECTIVE MODULES OVER ω-NOETHERIAN RINGS, II

  • By utilizing known characterizations of ${\omega}$-Noetherian rings in terms of injective modules, we give more characterizations of ${\omega}$-Noetherian rings. More precisely, we show that a commutative ring R is ${\omega}$-Noetherian if and only if the direct limit of GV -torsion-free injective R-modules is injective; if and only if every R-module has a GV -torsion-free injective (pre)cover; if and only if the direct sum of injective envelopes of ${\omega}$-simple R-modules is injective; if and only if the essential extension of the direct sum of GV -torsion-free injective R-modules is the direct sum of GV -torsion-free injective R-modules; if and only if every $\mathfrak{F}_{w,f}(R)$-injective ${\omega}$-module is injective; if and only if every GV-torsion-free R-module admits an $i$-decomposition.

EAKIN-NAGATA THEOREM FOR COMMUTATIVE RINGS WHOSE REGULAR IDEALS ARE FINITELY GENERATED

  • Let R be a commutative ring with identity, T(R) be the total quotient ring of R, and D be a ring such that $R{\subseteq}D{\subseteq}T(R)$ and D is a finite R-module. In this paper, we show that each regular ideal of R is finitely generated if and only if each regular ideal of D is finitely generated. This is a generalization of the Eakin-Nagata theorem that R is Noetherian if and only if D is Noetherian.

  • Let R be a Noetherian domain. It is proved that $t$-dimR = 1 if and only if each (proper if R is not a valuation domain) $t$-linked overring D of R is of $t$-dimD = 1 if and only if each integrally closed $t$-linked overring of R is a Krull domain.

SOME REMARKS ON TYPES OF NOETHERIAN LOCAL RINGS

  • We study some results which concern the types of Noetherian local rings, and improve slightly the previous result: For a complete unmixed (or quasi-unmixed) Noetherian local ring A, we prove that if either $A_p$ is Cohen-Macaulay, or $r(Ap){\leq}depth$ $A_p+1$ for every prime ideal p in A, then A is Cohen-Macaulay. Also, some analogous results for modules are considered.

  • Let R be a commutative ring with identity and let M be a finitely generated module over a Noetherian local ring R. Then it is well-known that M has a minimal projective resolution, which is unique up to isomorphisms of exact sequences. We provide a new proof of its uniqueness. Moreover, we deal with the cohomologies of (M, R/m).

  • We investigate some results which concern the types of Noetherian local rings. In particular, we show that if r(Ap) ${\le}$ depth Ap + 1 for each prime ideal p of a quasi-unmixed Noetherian local ring A, then A is Cohen-Macaulay. It is also shown that the Kawasaki conjecture holds when dim A ${\le}$ depth A + 1. At the end, we deal with some analogous results for modules, which are derived from the results studied on rings.

  • We study the set of star operations on local Noetherian domains D of dimension 1 such that the conductor (D : T) (where T is the integral closure of D) is equal to the maximal ideal of D. We reduce this problem to the study of a class of closure operations (more precisely, multiplicative operations) in a finite extension k ⊆ B, where k is a field, and then we study how the cardinality of this set of closures vary as the size of k varies while the structure of B remains fixed.

  • Let R be a one-dimensional Noetherian domain with quotient field K and T be the integral closure of R in K. In this note we prove that if the conductor ideal (R :K T) is a nonzero prime ideal, then every finitely generated reflexive (and hence finitely generated G-projective) R-module is isomorphic to a direct sum of some ideals.

  • Let D be an integral domain and let * be a star-operation on D. In this article, we give new characterizations of *w-Noetherian domains and *w-principal ideal domains. More precisely, we show that D is a *w-Noetherian domain (resp., *w-principal ideal domain) if and only if every *w-countable type ideal of D is of *w-finite type (resp., principal).
