  • With the sharp increase in the volume of literature data, researchers must spend considerable time and energy locating desired papers. A paper recommendation is the means necessary to solve this problem. Unfortunately, the large amount of data combined with sparsity makes personalizing papers challenging. Traditional matrix decomposition models have cold-start issues. Most overlook the importance of information and fail to consider the introduction of noise when using side information, resulting in unsatisfactory recommendations. This study proposes a paper recommendation method (PR-SLSMF) using document-level representation learning with citation-informed transformers (SPECTER) and low-rank and sparse matrix factorization; it uses SPECTER to learn paper content representation. The model calculates the similarity between papers and constructs a weighted heterogeneous information network (HIN), including citation and content similarity information. This method combines the LSMF method with HIN, effectively alleviating data sparsity and cold-start issues and avoiding topic drift. We validated the effectiveness of this method on two real datasets and the necessity of adding side information.

  • In this paper, an adaptive sparse singular value decomposition (ASSVD) algorithm is proposed to estimate the signal matrix when only one data matrix is observed and there is high dimensional white noise, in which we assume that the signal matrix is low-rank and has sparse singular vectors, i.e. it is a simultaneously low-rank and sparse matrix. It is a structured matrix since the non-zero entries are confined on some small blocks. The proposed algorithm estimates the singular values and vectors separable by exploring the structure of singular vectors, in which the recent developments in Random Matrix Theory known as anisotropic Marchenko-Pastur law are used. And then we prove that when the signal is strong in the sense that the signal to noise ratio is above some threshold, our estimator is consistent and outperforms over many state-of-the-art algorithms. Moreover, our estimator is adaptive to the data set and does not require the variance of the noise to be known or estimated. Numerical simulations indicate that ASSVD still works well when the signal matrix is not very sparse.

  • The generalized inverses have many important applications in the aspects of theoretic research and numerical computations and therefore they were studied by many authors. In this paper we get some necessary and sufficient conditions of the forward order law for {1}-inverse of multiple matrices products $A\;=\;A_1A_2{\cdots}A_n$ by using the maximal rank of generalized Schur complement.

  • A square matrix A with $per A \neq 0$ is called convertible if there exists a {1, -1} matrix H such that $per A = det(H \circ A)$ where $H \circ A$ denote the Hadamard product of H and A. In this paper, ranks of convertible {0, 1} matrices are investigated and the existence of maximal convertible matrices with its rank r for each integer r with $\left\lceil \frac{n}{2} \right\rceil \leq r \leq n$ is proved.

  • This paper deals with a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the design of a static output feedback controller that simultaneously stabilizes a finite collection of linear time-invariant plants. Simultaneous stabilization by static ouput feedback is represented in terms of LMIs with a rank condition. An iterative penalty method is proposed to solve the rank-constrained LMI problem. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • If S is a semiring of nonnegative reals, which linear operators T on the space of $m \times n$ matrices over S preserve the column rank of each matrix\ulcorner Evidently if P and Q are invertible matrices whose inverses have entries in S, then $T : X \longrightarrow PXQ$ is a column rank preserving, linear operator. Beasley and Song obtained some characterizations of column rank preserving linear operators on the space of $m \times n$ matrices over $Z_+$, the semiring of nonnegative integers in [1] and over the binary Boolean algebra in [7] and [8]. In [4], Beasley, Gregory and Pullman obtained characterizations of semiring rank-1 matrices and semiring rank preserving operators over certain semirings of the nonnegative reals. We considers over certain semirings of the nonnegative reals. We consider some results in [4] in view of a certain column rank instead of semiring rank.

  • Assume that X, partitioned into $2{\times}2$ block form, is a solution of the system of quaternion matrix equations $A_1XB_1$ = $C_1,A_2XB_2=C_2$. We in this paper give the maximal and minimal ranks of the submatrices in X, and establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the submatrices to be zero, unique as well as independent. As applications, we consider the common inner inverse G, partitioned into $2{\times}2$ block form, of two quaternion matrices M and N. We present the formulas of the maximal and minimal ranks of the submatrices of G, and describe the properties of the submatrices of G as well. The findings of this paper generalize some known results in the literature.

  • This paper deals with the design of a low order $H_{\infty}$ controller by using an iterative linear matrix inequality (LMI) method. The low order $H_{\infty}$ controller is represented in terms of LMIs with a rank condition. To solve the non-convex rank-constrained LMI problem, a linear penalty function is incorporated into the objective function so that minimizing the penalized objective function subject to LMIs amounts to a convex optimization problem. With an increasing sequence of the penalty parameter, the solution of the penalized optimization problem moves towards the feasible region of the original non-convex problem. The proposed algorithm is, therefore, convergent. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents an iterative linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the design of a static output feedback (SOF) stabilization controller. A linear penalty function is incorporated into the objective function for the non-convex rank constraint so that minimizing the penalized objective function subject to LMIs amounts to a convex optimization problem. Hence, the overall procedure results in solving a series of semidefinite programs (SDPs). With an increasing sequence of the penalty parameter, the solution of the penalized optimization problem moves towards the feasible region of the original non-convex problem. The proposed algorithm is, therefore, convergent. Extensive numerical experiments are Deformed to illustrate the proposed algorithm.
