The respondents were 302 elderly people residing in 5 free institutionalized elderly homes in Seoul. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, One-way ANOVA, Duncan's post hoc test and regression analysis using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the 10 items in the proposed scale could be grouped into four factors of constraint on leisure:'physical constraint','psychological constraint','interpersonal constraint', and 'structural constraint 'There were differences in leisure constraints according to sex, age, education degree, interaction with facility colleagues, and interaction with facility staff. There were differences in leisure life satisfaction according to sex, age, having religion or not, interaction with facility colleagues, interaction with facility staff and leisure constraints. • This research investigates the effect of leisure activities on lifestyle satisfaction of senior citizens. The target of this research is 202 people over 60 years of age who live in Seoul. Collected data was analyzed using frequency, percentage, average, T-test, one-way ANONA, and logistic regression analysis. SPSS and the Excel PC Program were used for the analysis. The following is the summary of the result of this research. First - in terms of participation in leisure activities: more active participation is observed with the elderly who have a spouse than with those who do not in every kind of leisure activity (except for the pastime activities). Second - all of the variables indicating the level of satisfaction from activities of the seniors who have a spouse are by far higher than those of the elderly who have no spouse. Third - the leisure activities and the satisfaction from the activities prove affective variables on whether they have a spouse or not. Notably, the religious leisure activities are enjoyed more by those senior citizens who are married. Comparatively, the unmarried senior citizens participate more actively in recreational and pastime leisure activities. This study suggests various practical means to promote leisure activities to the elderly and to raise the level of satisfaction received from those activities, as well as to help those who are concerned with understanding and improving lifestyle satisfaction of the elderly population. Nonetheless, this analysis is limited due to the restriction on the number of objects and samples studied. Therefore, studies to analyze leisure activities by regions in order to account for a more balanced set of systematical tools should follow.

  • This study compared types of time and money attitudes by respondents' characteristics, and compared leisure consumption behavior and leisure satisfaction among different groups, which are classified by attitudes toward time and money. It also verified a structural model for the relationship of leisure satisfaction and the attitudes toward time and money, and investigated the moderating effects of leisure consumption behavior. Data were obtained from a questionnaire completed by 512 adult consumers. Using factor analyses and cluster analyses, this study classified the types of time and money attitudes. The time attitude was categorized according to four clusters: time-insensibility, future- oriented, present-oriented, and past-oriented. The money attitude was divided into four clusters: future safety, stinginess/anxiety, diversion, and power/prestige. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the propensity of leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness was higher for time-insensibility group than for the others. However, the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure was higher for the future-oriented group. The level of leisure satisfaction was the highest for the time-insensibility group. Second, the propensity of leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness was higher for those who considered money as tools for diversion and power/prestige. The propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure was higher for the future safety and stinginess/anxiety groups. The level of leisure satisfaction was significantly higher for the diversion group. Third, from the results of structural analyses, the time-insensibility attitude showed a positive effect on the leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness. The future-oriented attitude had a positive effect on the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure. The money attitudes of diversion and power/prestige had positive impacts on the leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness, although they had negative effects on the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure. The leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness had a positive effect on leisure satisfaction, although the rational consumption behavior for leisure had a negative effect.

  • Multi-sensory design results from sensory design paradigm and image centricism, which stimulates 5 sensation; visual, auditory, haptic, smell and taste sensation when we experience environment. This is helpful for designing outdoor space considering integrated sensation not only visual and auditory sensation as well as for improving visitor's satisfaction. Therefore, this study mainly intended to analyse the multi-sensory preference and the image influence of outdoor leisure space. For these purpose, this study selected 3 leisure spaces around Seoul city; Gwan-ak mountain(the type oriented natural resource), Insa-dong(the type oriented cultural resource) and Seoul land as theme park(the type oriented facility) and a survey was performed with a total of 204 visitors at the above spaces in winter and summer. The results of this study indicate that visual sensation was evaluated most high at 3 outdoor leisure spaces in both winter and summer. Visitors at Gwan-ak mountain and Seoul land prefer visual and haptic sensation, but visitors at Insa-dong prefer visual and haptic sensation in summer, visual and taste sensation in winter. Above all, this study led the designer to consider diverse sensation to access leisure space, especially haptic sense, which can be an effective design strategy to satisfy visitors.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a practical class design model that applies the problem-based learning (PBL) method to the subject of home economics. To begin with, a specific class model example was developed by conducting thorough document research and expert consulting. Two modules, named "Click! Global Leisure Environment" and "Happy Leisure Product Launching" were presented as the PBL questions. The case study focused upon in this research is an elective course called "Leisure Culture and Life Management". The 21 students enrolled in this course were considered in this study. Two teaching methods, namely a face-to-face teaching method and a web-based system "Snowboard" teaching method, were used to run the class. The research results are as follows: first, theoretical research and program development and demonstration were practiced with five different age groups: childhood, adolescence, university student, middle age, and senescence. Then, selfevaluation, peer evaluation, and group evaluation were conducted to motivate the students. Finally, a class evaluation was conducted by questioning the lecturer, who ranked well, scoring higher than or equal to 4.0 points out of 5.0 on all the questions. Through the PBL method, students showed an improved study attitude with more proactive participation in the class, they strengthened their communication skills and created a synergy with their team members. This study has significant meaning because it is the first research to apply the PBL method to home economics. Therefore, we expect other curricula to apply PBL and fully utilize this teaching method as well in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a culture and leisure resources scale and examine the validity of the scale. The culture and Leisure resources scale was developed and identified its validity by exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis. The culture and leisure resources scale consisted of four factors, which were 'personal resources', 'support staff resources', 'facility resources', and 'program resources'. Those four factors indicated the reasonable fit indices from confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, this scale showed convergent validity with the satisfaction of cultural and leisure environment and the satisfaction of one's cultural and leisure life. The result of scale score comparison between rural and urban areas showed that culture and leisure resources in rural areas were less abundant than those in urban areas. Furthermore, while the variables which affected the satisfaction of urban residents' were mainly 'personal resources', the variables in case of rural residents' were mainly 'program resources' and 'facility Resources'. The culture and leisure resources scale can be used for policymakers practicably to evaluate regional level of culture and leisure resources, to compare between regions and to find policy priorities for improving the quality of leisure, especially for disadvantaged areas with less resources.
