  • Utsunomiya University started a 3-year project to develop an education program for postgraduate students to cultivate leadership spirits. The program is centered on a PBL in which each group of students is required to find an engineering or social problem themselves and start a project to solve the problem. Projects vary widely, from a straight product development to a summer program for children or local area development. Student groups are advised by senior engineers from industries. They give advice as to how a project should be managed and run, but will not give instructions. The PBL is compulsory for all students in the engineering master course students. The new education program also includes a series of lectures by engineers to show engineers' job, activities, and career in the industry. Internship programs are also provided, in which students will be given opportunities to actively apply their knowledge and skills to real engineering tasks offered by the industry. The students are expected to gain something more than just experiences.

  • Effective leadership in safety performance, such as safety leadership, has received attention as a factor that greatly affects safety performance in various high-risk industrial environments. Based on prior research, this study aims to analyze the impact relationship between safety leadership, safety observance, safety education, and safety culture to reveal the effectiveness of safety leadership. In addition, this study will examine the effects of safety leadership on safety observance and safety education to identify the effects of safety understanding. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with employees of an aviation manufacturing company in Gyeongnam. For verification, a positive factor analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation analysis were conducted using the AMOS 21.0 program. This study's findings show that, first, safety leadership has a positive and significant impact on safety observance and safety education. Second, safety leadership was found to have a direct impact on organizations' safety culture. Third, although safety observance has significant positive effects on safety culture, safety education has often been rejected. Finally, after verifying the control effect of safety understanding, this study uncovered the presence of an adjustment effect in the effect of safety leadership on safety observance. Therefore, based on the results of this study, theoretical and practical implications suggest that through the exercise of safety leadership, managers can improve their organizations' safety culture by increasing organizations' compliance with safety observance and/or acceptance of safety education.

  • This is a single-group pre-post study conducted to determine the effect of a calligraphy program on nursing students' career decision-making self-efficacy and self- leadership. The data collected from 231 second-year nursing students were analyzed using SPSS WIN 25.0 to determine descriptive statistics, paired t-test to analyze the effect of calligraphy, and Pearson correlation coefficient to determine the relationship between career decision self-efficacy and self-leadership. After the program, both career decision self-efficacy (t=7.23, p<.001) and self-leadership (t=6.81, p<.001) improved. The analysis of career decision self-efficacy and self-leadership after the program showed a strong correlation (r=.849, p<.001). The results of this study are significant in that they validate the effectiveness of a calligraphy program in promoting self-leadership and career decision-making self-efficacy among nursing students who do not have clear career goals. Students' overall satisfaction with the calligraphy program was 4/5 points, and they most highly evaluated the smooth interaction between fellow students through the program. At a time when the importance of cultural arts education is gradually increasing in social and educational fields around the world, calligraphy has the advantage of laying the foundation for the promotion of basic arts for the revitalization of cultural arts, so educational support is needed not only in terms of improving the quality of life and pursuing self-actualization of individuals with emotional expression and creative problem-solving skills, but also at the social level.

The participants consisted of 52 nursing students in D College of D City who were assigned to an experimental group (n=27) or control group (n=25). The pretest poll was performed on June 1, 2017 and posttest poll was performed 2 weeks later without any treatment in the control group. In the experimental group, the pretest poll was performed on July 25 before the emergency treatment education program and the posttest poll was performed on August 31 after the education program. The emergency treatment education program for the experimental group consisted of 2 hours of emergency treatment instruction, autonomously watching videos, and 4 hours of teaching elementary students about CPR for adults and first aid for airway obstruction, burns, bleeding, and fractures as a lecturer. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, independent t-test, $x^2$ test, and paired t-test with SPSS/WIN 20.0. After receiving the emergency treatment education program, a difference was observed in self-leadership (t=2.08, p<.05), career decision-making self-efficacy (t=4.22, p<.05) and nursing performance ability (t=5.02, p<.05) in the experimental group. The results of this study indicate that the emergency treatment education program was effective at increasing self-leadership, career decision-making self-efficacy, and nursing performance ability in nursing students.
