In this paper, a new smoothing approximation to the l₁ exact penalty function for constrained optimization problems (COP) is presented. It is shown that an optimal solution to the smoothing penalty optimization problem is an approximate optimal solution to the original optimization problem. Based on the smoothing penalty function, an algorithm is presented to solve COP, with its convergence under some conditions proved. Numerical examples illustrate that this algorithm is efficient in solving COP.

The recent work by the authors (see, Withers, 1999; Withers and McGavin, 2006; Withers and Nadarajah, 2006) provided new expressions for repeated upper tail integrals of the univariate normal density and so also for the general Hermite function. Here we derive new expressions for repeated lower tail integrals of the same. The calculations involve the use of Moran's L-function and the Airy function. In particular, the Hermite functions are expressed in terms of Moran's L-function and vice versa.

In [1], Cameron and Storvick introduced the analytic operator-valued function space integral. Johnson and Lapidus proved that this integral can be expressed in terms of an integral of operator-valued functions [6]. In this paper, we find some operator-valued Bochner integrable functions and prove that the analytic operator-valued function space integral of a certain function is represented as the Bochner integral of operator-valued functions on some conditions.

We consider the problem that how must the production of certain item vary as a function of time, if for known losses due to depreciation the total amount of the product is to have a constant value. The integral equation associated with the problem is solved by an appeal to the convolution quotients. The production function comes out to be an expression containing the generalized Laguerre polynomials. The loss function and the production function are tabulated for different values of the parameter by using an IBM 370/145 computer.

In this paper, we introduce the modification of a generalized (Ψ, L)-weak contraction and we prove some coincidence point results for self-mappings G, T and S, and some fixed point results for some maps by using a (c)-comparison function and a comparison function in the sense of a b-metric space.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of Yangseng (Traditional Health Behavior), depression, anxiety, cognitive function between the elderly women living alone and the aged in the living with family. Methods: The subjects of this study were 137 elderly women aged between 65 and 80. They were evaluated with the Tool in Measuring Yangseng (TMY), Korean Geriatric Depression Scale (KGDS), State-Trait Anxiety Inntory (STAI) and Korean of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMES-K). Depending on whether or not they lived alone, they were divided into two groups; group living alone (L.A.) and group living with family (L.F.). Results: In TMY score, there were statistically significant differences in characteristics of Mind, Diet, Sleep and total score between L.A. (63 persons) and L.F. (74 persons). Group living alone (L.A.) had significantly higher score in KGDS and STAI compared with other group (L.F.). The values of KGDS and STAI comparing to the values of Mind, Diet, Sleep, Exercise and total score in this study resulted in negative correlations which showed statistically significant. Conclusions: Above results suggest that between L.A. and L.F, there are significant difference in physical and mental health. TMY is enough to estimate health of the aged. These results can be used for Yangseng health promoting program based on Korean traditional medicine.

The paper discusses the problem of computing coarser observation functions in supervisory control of discrete event systems. It is shown that when a supervisor that realizes a given language L has certain properties, L-realizability of a coarser observation function is equivalent to control-compatibility of the states in some subsets of the state space of the supervisor. This characterization is then used to devise an iterative procedure of computing coarser L-realizable observation functions, where supervisor reduction and L-realizability verification of an observation function are performed at each iteration.

We mainly study the value distributions of L-functions in the extended selberg class. Concerning weighted sharing, we prove an uniqueness theorem when certain differential monomial of a meromorphic function share a polynomial with certain differential monomial of an L-function which improve and generalize some recent results due to Liu, Li and Yi [11], Hao and Chen [3] and Mandal and Datta [12].

In this paper we prove an even characteristic analogue of the result of Andrade on lower bounds for moment of quadratic Dirichlet L-functions in odd characteristic. We establish lower bounds for the moments of Dirichlet L-functions of characters defined by Hasse symbols in even characteristic.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mugwort extracts on the blood ethanol concentration and liver function in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were used, the rats administered with 25% ethanol (5g/kg$.$B.W.) were devided into three groups (CON-E ; 25% ethanol administered to the CON-E) according to the administered ethanol concentration and the levels of administered mugwonts. Mugwont roots extracts were administered via the caudal vein. Ethanol concentration was measured at the time of 0, 1, 2 and 3hr by gas chromatography. GOT(Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase) and GPT(Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) were measured at the time of 0 and 5hr. Components of each extracts were analyzed by using high performance liquid chromatography. Cell number, GOT and GPT were investigated by using rat hepatocyte culture. Megwort extracts were added at the levels of 1% or 2%. Hepatocyte culture were into five groups according to the addition levels. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Catechin contents of 8∼10mg/100g and the contents of (-)-epigallocatechin was high in the water extracts. 2. Ethanol degradation efficiency declines in the following order : MDW-E＞MOH-E＞CON-E. 3. The numbers of rat hepatocytes declines in the following order : 2% MDW-L＞1%MDW-L＞1%MOH-L＞CON-L＞2%MOH-L. These results suggest that crude catechin of mugwort extracts may play important roles to degrade ethanol and recover liver function in rats.
