Efficiency of Different Selection Indices for Desired Gain in Reproduction and Production Traits in Hariana Cattle

  • An investigation was conducted on 729 Hariana cows maintained at Government Livestock Farm, Hisar, from 1973 to 1999, with an objective to compare the efficiency of various selection indices for attaining desired genetic gains in the index traits. The various traits included were age at first calving (AFC), service period (SP), calving interval (CI), days to first service (DFS), number of services per conception (NSPC), lactation milk yield (LY), peak yield (PY), dry period (DP). Except for LY, PY and AFC the heritabilities of all other traits were low. Desirable associations among reproductive traits are supportive of the fact that any one of these traits incorporated in simultaneous selection is expected to cause correlated response in other traits. Production traits (LY and PY) were positively correlated, while DP had low negative genetic correlation with LY, and high genetic correlation with PY. Thus, DP can be taken as additional criteria in selection index for better over all improvement. Almost all production traits except DP had low negative correlation with AFC, SP, DFS and CI meaning that reduction in reproduction traits up to certain level may increase production performance. While, the correlation of NSPC with LY and PY was moderate positive. Among four trait indices I23: incorporating PY, AFC, SP and NSPC and among three trait indices I1: incorporating LY, AFC and SP were the best as these required least number of generations (4.87 and 1.35, respectively) to attain desired goals. Next in order of preference were PY or LY along with DP and SP as the best indices (I20 and I16) of which, index with PY may be preferred instead of LY as it produced considerably high correlated response in LY and reduction in NSPC as well.

  • With the radical changes and advancements of industrial economy, it is required to secure product competitiveness through technological innovations to overcome uncertain environments and generate a driving force for sustainable growth. So the Korea government introduced the superior product selection system in 1996 and has granted such incentives as priority purchasing and contracts the products of SME whose technological capabilities have passed the screening criteria. After analyzing the ambiguity of the evaluation procurement used in designation of excellent product, this study proposed seven detailed indexes for evaluation.

Sensor selection approach for damage identification based on response sensitivity

  • The response sensitivity method in time domain has been applied extensively for damage identification. In this paper, the relationship between the error of damage identification and the sensitivity matrix is investigated through perturbation analysis. An index is defined according to the perturbation amplify effect and an optimal sensor placement method is proposed based on the minimization of that index. A sequential sub-optimal algorithm is presented which results in consistently good location selection. Numerical simulations with a two-dimensional high truss structure are conducted to validate the proposed method. Results reveal that the damage identification using the optimal sensor placement determined by the proposed method can identify multiple damages of the structure more accurately.

Reliability analysis of circular tunnel with consideration of the strength limit state

  • Probability-based design codes have been developed to sufficiently confirm the safety level of structures. One of the most acceptable probability-based approaches is Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD), which measures the safety level of the structures in terms of the reliability index. The main contribution of this paper is to calibrate the load and resistance factors of the design code for tunnels. The load and resistance factors are calculated using the available statistical models and probability-based procedures. The major steps include selection of representative structures, consideration of the limit state functions, calculation of reliability for the selected structures, selection of the target reliability index and calculation of load factors and resistance factors. The load and resistance models are reviewed. Statistical models of resistance (load carrying capacity) are summarized for strength limit state in bending, shear and compression. The reliability indices are calculated for several segments of a selected circular tunnel designed according to the tunnel manual report (Tunnel Manual). The novelty of this paper is the selection of the target reliability. In doing so, the uniform spectrum of reliability indices is proposed based on the probability paper. The final recommendation is proposed based on the closeness to the target reliability index.

다중 사용자 MIMO 시스템의 사용자 스케쥴링을 위한 동적 피드백 선택 기법 (Dynamic Feedback Selection Scheme for User Scheduling in Multi-user MIMO Systems)

  • 본 논문은 다중 사용자 MIMO 시스템에서 사용자 선택을 위해 필요한 precoding matrix index (PMI)/channel quality indication (CQI)의 보고 방식에 따른 성능을 분석한다. 이러한 분석을 통해 셀 내의 단말의 수, 선택되는 사용자의 수, 그리고 코드북(codebook)의 크기가 Best Companion Grouping (BCG)방식 스케쥴링의 성능에 복잡하게 영향을 미치는 것을 확인한다. 이에 따라 셀 내의 사용자 수와 코드북의 크기에 따라 동시에 스케쥴링 되는 사용자들의 그룹이 형성될 수 있는 확률이 달라지는 것을 확인할 수 있으며, 피드백 오버헤드가 주어졌을 때 이에 따라 피드백하는 PMI의 수와 사용하는 코드북의 크기를 적응적으로 선택함으로써 시스템의 평균 수율 성능을 최적화할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 기업의 비용 절감, 품질 향상, 수익성 및 유연성 향상 등에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 이를 통하여 기업의 운영과 재정, 경쟁력 등에 영향을 미치는 전략적으로 매우 중요한 의사결정인 공급업체 선정을 위한 평가 모형 및 평가방법을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 연구 대상 분야를 사무용품 및 사무기기 분야로 한정하여 사무용품 및 사무기기 공급업체 선정을 위한 평가요인을 1단계에서는 사무용품 및 사무기기 공급관련 요인, 제품관련 요인, 거래기업의 관리능력관련 요인으로 분류하고, 각 요인별로 세부요인을 설정하여 총 16개의 세부요인으로 분류하고, 각 요인별 상대적 중요도 산출을 위하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 평가 요인별 상대적 중요도는 AHP기법을 이용하여 도출하였으며, 본 모형의 실제적인 활용 가능성을 제시하기 위하여 사무용품 및 사무기기 공급업체에 대한 평가 요인별 만족도를 도출하여 요인별 상대적 중요도를 이용한 공급업체에 대한 만족도를 도출하는 평가모형을 제시하였다.

국내 태양광산업의 해외진출을 위한 시장 선택 요인에 대한 분석 (Development of International Market Selection Models for Solar Power System Industry of Korea)

  • Due to environmental issues such as global warming, the importance of renewable energy is growing. Solar Power System is one of the most growing eco-friendly energy industries in the world, but Korea's solar energy industry faces fierce competition due to the trade regulations and changes in energy related laws in the major markets such as the U.S., EU and China. Therefore, Korea needs to diversify its export markets towards emerging markets. This paper analyzed 162 countries in the world and developed a model to measure how promising the countries are. GSMI(Grid connected Solar Market Index) and OSMI(Off-grid Solar Market Index) are invented based on the models. By using the developed model and the data of 162 countries over the 15-year period from 2000 to 2014, the foreign markets are ranked for searching the export market. According to the analysis, China, Japan, U.S, India and Taiwan ranked first to fifth in GSMI and OSMI ranking, which were followed by China, India, Bangladesh, Philippines and Afghanistan. The model developed through this research is expected to provide a more reasonable and scientific approach to the advancement of the Korean solar energy industry into overseas markets.

Prediction of Quantitative Traits Using Common Genetic Variants: Application to Body Mass Index

  • With the success of the genome-wide association studies (GWASs), many candidate loci for complex human diseases have been reported in the GWAS catalog. Recently, many disease prediction models based on penalized regression or statistical learning methods were proposed using candidate causal variants from significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms of GWASs. However, there have been only a few systematic studies comparing existing methods. In this study, we first constructed risk prediction models, such as stepwise linear regression (SLR), least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and Elastic-Net (EN), using a GWAS chip and GWAS catalog. We then compared the prediction accuracy by calculating the mean square error (MSE) value on data from the Korea Association Resource (KARE) with body mass index. Our results show that SLR provides a smaller MSE value than the other methods, while the numbers of selected variables in each model were similar.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm of optimal measurement system by using band matrix characteristic respectively for state estimation. A performance index of measurement system is established to reflect relation among measurement sets, probability of measurement failure and cost of individual meter installation. Selection ranking in the candidates of measurement sets is composed to guarantee the observability for any any single meter outage. Performance index sensitivity is introduced and recursive formula which based on the matrix inversion lemma used for selection. The proposed algorithm is composed of successive addition algorithm, successive elimination algorithm and combinatorial algorithm. The band matrix characteristic could save in memory requirements and calculate the performance index faster than earlier.

선발지수(選拔指數)에 의(依)한 수도품종(水稻品種)의 선발(選拔) (Selection of Rice Varieties by Selection Index)

  • 안전(安全) 다수성(多收性)인 수도품종(水稻品種)을 선발(選拔)하기 위하여 10개(個) 품종(品種)을 6개(個)의 상이(相異)한 재배환경하(栽培環境下)에서 3반복(反復)으로 각각(各各) 시험(試驗)한 후 Hazel 방법(方法)(선발지수(選拔指數 I)과 Pesek 등 방법(方法)(선발지수(選拔指數 II)에 의(依)해 지수(指數)를 계산(計算)하여 비교(比較)하였던 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 조사(調査)한 특성(特性)은 수량(收量)을 비롯하여 6개였다. 1. 10개(個) 품종(品種)가운데서 재배방법(栽培方法)이 상이(相異)함에도 불구(不拘)하고 품종번호(品種番號) 6, 3, 4, 5가 우수(優秀)한 품종(品種)으로 판별(判別)되었다. 2. 일반조건하(一般條件下)에서의 품종선발(品種選拔)을 위해서는 선발지수(選拔指數) I(Hazal 방법(方法))이 좋을 것이나 특수환경하(特殊環境下)에서는 오히려 Pesek 방법(方法)(선발지수(選拔指數) II)이 유리(有利)할 것으로 보여졌다. 3. 지수상(指數上)으로 본 품종(品種)의 순위(順位)가 특성(特性)들 특(特)히 수량(收量)의 순위(順位)와는 정확(正確)히 일치(一致)하지 않아 더욱 지수법(指數法)의 의미를 새롭게 했다. 4. 재배방법(栽培方法)에 따라 또는 품종(品種)의 특성(特性)에 따라 약간 다르기는 했지만 특성(特性)의 대부분(大部分)이 높은 유전력(遺傳力)(광의(廣意)의)을 보였다. 5. 품종(品種)과 6개의 상이(相異)한 재배환경(栽培環境)사이에는 상호작용(相互作用)이 인정(認定)되지 않았다. 6. 6개(個) 특성(特性)가운데 수수(穗數)만이 품종간(品種間)에 유의차(有意差)가 인정(認定)되지 않았고(재배방법(栽培方法) 2, 4, 5에서) 다른 특성(特性)들은 모두 품종간(品種間)에 고도(高度)의 유의차(有意差)가 인정(認定)되었다.
