  • Purpose: This study identified the influence of hotel workers' emotional labor and social support on their intentions to change jobs. Methods: Study participants were 437 workers from seven hotels in Korea who consented to the survey. Among them, insufficient responses from 21 participants were excluded, as well as 107 responses from workers with workloads of under one hour of face to face work. Thus, 309 hotel workers were included in the final analysis. A multivariate regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing the hotel workers' intention to change jobs. Results: The intention to change jobs was high when external behavior was shown, and workers who received social support from a superior exhibited low intention of changing jobs. Conclusion: The study results show that the most influential variables of turnover intention are external behavior and the support of a superior. It is therefore important to educate managers on personnel management methods for reducing external behaviors so that the rate of job changes by hotel workers can be reduced. It is also necessary to prepare and manage measures for strengthening the support system by workplace superiors.

  • This study examined the positive impact of workplace harassment on the employees' counterproductive work behavior at deluxe hotel in Seoul and Tokyo. The study verified a differentiated influence based on the nationality of the employees. The hypothesized relationships in the model were tested simultaneously by using structural equation modelling. First, isolation/exclusion (${\beta}=.403$), disrespectful behavior (${\beta}=.312$), physical aggression (${\beta}=.245$), and verbal aggression (${\beta}=.133$) had a positive impact on counterproductive work behavior. However, threats/bribes (${\beta}=.091$) did not show a significant impact. Second, no significant moderating effect based on employees' nationality (Korean versus Japanese) was observed in the relationship between the five workplace harassment factors and CWB. This study will investigate workplace harassment perceived by deluxe hotel employees in Korea and Japan, and the obtained data can also be used to help identify realistic plans to reduce workplace harassment between bosses and subordinates at an organizational level.

PATH (posture, activity, tools and handling) method was used for data collection at the 6 hotel settings in different regions across Korea. From 26 workers, a total of 949 PATH observations were obtained. The highest percent time on non-neutral posture was 78% for pinch grip, followed by 74%(wrist deviation), 52%(trunk posture), 37%(shoulder/arm posture), and 30%(neck posture). The highest percent time in the three HAL variables was 47% for HAL-cat2. The percent time of items in relation to both loads with more than 5kg and contact stress was less than 2%. The hotel workers were not exposed to vibration.
