  • In this paper, we study the response of several anisotropic systems to buried transient line loads. The problem is mathematically formulated based on the equations of motion in the constitutive relations. The load is in form of a normal stress acting with arbitrary axis on the plane of monoclinic symmetry. Plane wave equation is coupled with vertical shear wave, longitudinal wave and horizontal shear wave. We first considered the equation of motion in reference coordinate system, where the line load is coincident with symmetry axis of the orthotrioic material. Then the equation of motion is transformed with respect to general coordiante system with azimuthal angle by using transformation tensor. The load is first described as a body force in the equations of the motion for the infinite media and then it is mathematically characterized. Subsequently the results for semi-infinite spaces is also obtained by using superposition of the infinite medium solution together with a scattered solution from the free surface. Consequently explicit solutions for the displacements are obtained by using Cargniard-DeHoop contour. Numerical results which are drawn from concrete examples of orthotropic material belonging to monoclinic symmetry are demonstrated.

  • The present paper shows a new non-tensorial approach to derive basic equations for various structural analyses. It can be used directly in numerical computation procedures. The aim of the paper is, however, to show that the approach serves as an excellent tool for analytical purposes also, working as a link between analytical and numerical techniques. The paper gives a method to derive, at first, expressions for strains in general beam and shell analyses, and secondly, the governing equilibrium equations. The approach is based on the utilization of local fixed Cartesian coordinate systems. Applying these, all the definitions required are the simple basic ones, well-known from the analyses in common global coordinates. In addition, the familiar principle of virtual work has been adopted. The method will be, apparently, most powerful in teaching the theories of curved beam and shell structures for students not familiar with tensor analysis. The final results obtained have no novelty value in themselves, but the procedure developed opens through its systematic and graphic progress a new standpoint to theoretical considerations.

  • On a generalized Riemannian manifold $X_n$, we may impose a particular geometric structure by the basic tensor field $g_{\lambda\mu}$ by means of a particular connection ${\Gamma}{_\lambda}{^\nu}_{\mu}$. For example, Einstein's manifold $X_n$ is based on the Einstein's connection defined by the Einstein's equations. Many recurrent connections have been studied by many geometers, such as Datta and Singel, M. Matsumoto, and E.M. Patterson. The purpose of the present paper is to study some relations between a generalized semisymmetric $g$-recurrent manifold $GSX_n$ and its submanifold. All considerations in this present paper deal with the general case $n{\geq}2$ and all possible classes.

  • The purpose of the present paper is to study generic submanifolds of a Sasakian space form with nonvanishing parallel mean curvature vector field such that the shape operator in the direction of the mean curvature vector field commutes with the structure tensor field induced on the submanifold. In .cint. 1 we state general formulas on generic submanifolds of a Sasakian manifold, especially those of a Sasakian space form. .cint.2 is devoted to the study a generic submanifold of a Sasakian manifold, which is not tangent to the structure vector. In .cint.3 we investigate generic submanifolds, not tangent to the structure vector, of a Sasakian space form with nonvanishing parallel mean curvature vactor field. In .cint.4 we discuss generic submanifolds tangent to the structure vector of a Sasakian space form and compute the restricted Laplacian for the shape operator in the direction of the mean curvature vector field. As a applications of these, in the last .cint.5 we prove our main results.

  • In this paper, we deal with a two-species chemotaxis-Stokes system with Lotka-Volterra competitive kinetics under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a general three-dimensional bounded domain with smooth boundary. Under appropriate regularity assumptions on the initial data, by some Lp-estimate techniques, we show that the system possesses at least one global and bounded weak solution, in addition to discussing the asymptotic behavior of the solutions. Our results generalizes and improves partial previously known ones.

  • Fundamentals of electrodynamics of moving sources with constant velocity in an anisotripic plasma when the do magnetic field and the relative motion are oriented in arbitrary directions are presented. The well-known Minkowski's relations are generalized to accomodate anisotropic and dispersive media, and relativistic transformation formulae of constitutive parameters are derived and expanded into polynomials of the speed ratio \ulcornerto increase the utility of the formulae. The helmholtz wave equation of electromagnetic fields is generalized to the media charactrized by tensor parameters, and is solved in operator form. Also the solution of wave equation is expressed as a porcuct of the inverse of the wave operator matrix and the source function vector, and the inverse of the wave operator matrix is presented in an explicit form. The equations and formulae derived in this paper are all general, and can be reduced to known and proven results upon imposing the restriction called for by specific situations.

  • This paper accounts for derivations and formulations of the finite element dynamic equation of the rotor-bearing system to analyze its whirling speed. It turns out to be a different form from previous researcher's because of different successive sequences of Euler angles. Correspondingly the adoption of other rotation tensor will be needed for a consistent derivation of the dynamic equation. The process of its finite element formulation with consistent mass matrix and gyroscopic matrix involves a general definition of the modal analysis or the Eigen analysis for the damped system in the inertial frame and rotating frame, respectively.

  • An Einstein's connection which takes the form (2.23) is called a $^*g$-ME-connection and the corresponding vector is called a $^*g$-ME-vector. The $^*g$-ME-manifold is a generalized n-dimensional Riemannian manifold $X_n$ on which the differential geometric structure is imposed by the unified field tensor $^*g^{{\lambda}{\nu}}$, satisfying certain conditions, through the $^*g$-ME-connection and we denote it by $^*g-MEX_n$. The purpose of this paper is to derive a general representation and a special representation of the $^*g$-ME-vector in $^*g-MEX_n$.

  • Let C be a curve and V → C an orthogonal vector bundle of rank r. For r ≤ 6, the structure of V can be described using tensor, symmetric and exterior products of bundles of lower rank, essentially due to the existence of exceptional isomorphisms between Spin(r, ℂ) and other groups for these r. We analyze these structures in detail, and in particular use them to describe moduli spaces of orthogonal bundles. Furthermore, the locus of isotropic vectors in V defines a quadric subfibration QV ⊂ ℙV . Using familiar results on quadrics of low dimension, we exhibit isomorphisms between isotropic Quot schemes of V and certain ordinary Quot schemes of line subbundles. In particular, for r ≤ 6 this gives a method for enumerating the isotropic subbundles of maximal degree of a general V , when there are finitely many.

  • Purpose: Myocutaneous flap was widely used for trochanteric pressure sore but it had many drawbacks such as donor site morbidity, dog-ear deformity and functional muscle sacrifice. We have performed fasciocutaneous flap based on perforating vessels and succeeded in overcoming its drawbacks. Methods: We experienced 11 cases of perforator-based fasciocutaneous flap for the coverage of trochanteric pressure sore in 9 patients, 2 cases of which were bilateral. The ambulatory status of patient group is as follows: 6 of them used a wheelchair, 2 of them are free walking, 1 of them use a wheelchair or crutches. Flap was supplied by cutaneous perforating vessel of descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery and the third perforating artery of the deep femoral artery. The size of wounds were from $4{\times}6.5cm$ to $10{\times}13cm$. Results: We did not find any flap loss or congestion except 2 partial wound dehiscences and 1 wound infection. Donor site morbidity was not found. We observed no recurrence of the pressure sore during the 2.5 year follow-up period. Conclusion: We considered that perforator-based fasciocutaneous flap could overcome the traditional drawbacks of the conventional myocutaneous flap and its modified flap for trochanteric pressure sore. And this flap has many advantages for covering trochanteric pressure sore without any donor site deformity and morbidity, which would greatly improve the aesthetic result.
