  • Low-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (LMW-GS) in common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is important for quality processing of bread and noodles. The objectives of this study were to clarify the composition of LMW-GSs and to identify their corresponding proteins. Using LMW-GS specific primers we cloned and characterized 43 LMW-GS genes in the wheat cultivar 'Jokyoung'. Some of these genes contain polypeptides different in size due to the presence of various deletions or insertions within repetitive and glutamine-rich domains. The comparison of deduced amino acid sequence of the LMW-GS genes in Jokyoung with that of 12 groups LMW-GSs of wheat cultivar Norin 61 showed that the deduced amino acid sequences were nearly the same to LMW-GS groups of 1, 2, 3/4, 5, 7, 10 and 11. All LMW-GS genes contain eight cysteine residues, which are conserved among all of the typical LMW-GS sequences. The relative positions of cysteine residues are also conserved, except those of the first and seventh. Based on phylogenetic analysis, the 43 sequences with the same N-terminal and C-terminal amino acid sequences were clustered in the same group. To identify the proteins containing the corresponding amino acid sequences, we determined the N-terminal amino acid sequence of 7 spots of LMW-GSs of Jokyoung separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE). Of them, Glu-B3 (LMW-m and LMW-s) and Glu-D3 (LMW-m) were detected in two and three spots, respectively and the others were not clear. Collectively, we classified diverse LMW-GSs and identified their corresponding protein products. These results will be helpful in breeding programs for improvement of wheat flour quality.

  • Assuming krypton molecules adsorbed on the graphite surface as a two-dimensional (2D) gas, 4th virial coefficient of the virial equation is calculated by the use of cluster integrals. The Henry's law constant, and 2nd and 3rd virial coefficients are also calculated. Adsorption isotherms calculated from this virial equation agree very satisfactorily with experimental results. The interaction energy of Kr-graphite surface is calculated assuming the pairwise additivity of Lennard-Jones(12,6) potential, and parametars therein are taken as; ${\varepsilon}_{gs}$/k = 71.1 K, ${\varepsilon}_{gg}$/k = 170 K, ${\sigma}_{gs}$ = 354 pm, and ${\sigma}_{gg}$ = 368 pm.

  • In this paper, a 5-bit 2-GS/s 2-way time interleaved pipeline ADC for high-speed serial link receiver is demonstrated. Implemented as a current-mode amplifier, the stage ADC simultaneously processes the tracking and residue amplification to achieve higher sampling rate. In addition, each stage incorporates a built-in 1-tap FIR equalizer, reducing inter-symbol-interference (ISI)without an extra digital post-processing. The ADC is designed in a 110nm CMOS technology. It comsumes 91mW from a 1.2-V supply. The area excluding the memory block is $0.58{\times}0.42mm^2$. Simulation results show that when equalizer is enabled, the ADC achieves SNDR of 25.2dB and ENOB of 3.9bits at 2.0GS/s sample rate for a Nyquist input signal. When the equalizer is disengaged, SNDR is 26.0dB for 20MHz-1.0GHz input signal, and the ENOB of 4.0bits.

  • A 1V 1.6-GS/s 6-bit flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a clock calibration circuit is proposed. A single track/hold circuit with a bootstrapped analog switch is used as an input stage with a supply voltage of 1V for the high speed operation. Two preamplifier-arrays and each comparator composed of two-stage are implemented for the reduction of analog noises and high speed operation. The clock calibration circuit in the proposed flash ADC improves the dynamic performance of the entire flash ADC by optimizing the duty cycle and phase of the clock. It adjusts the reset and evaluation time of the clock for the comparator by controlling the duty cycle of the clock. The proposed 1.6-GS/s 6-bit flash ADC is fabricated in a 1V 90nm 1-poly 9-metal CMOS process. The measured SNDR is 32.8 dB for a 800 MHz analog input signal. The measured DNL and INL are +0.38/-0.37 LSB, +0.64/-0.64 LSB, respectively. The power consumption and chip area are $800{\times}500{\mu}m2$ and 193.02mW.

  • In 1996, GS E&C became the first in the industry to adopt a Project Management System using EVM(Earned Value Management) to link schedule with profit/loss. In 2006, the TPMS(Total Project Management System) was completed by adding the concept of Lean Construction and JIT(Just In Time) to the Project Management System. This was done with the purpose of reducing waste and creating optimal work processes. This has been implemented on all sites and has enabled drastic increase of productivity. The portal provides customized information to the client, inspector and subcontractor personnel. Since various parties are receiving information that suits their requirements and is easy to use, usage has increased and since they are on the same platform, quick decisions and information sharing is possible. The purpose of the PMIS's success model in construction projects, this paper tests and proves the TPMS's efficiency and productivity to Dongnam Distribution Complex project.

  • Glutathione (GSH) is an important factor in determining tolerance against oxidative stress in living organisms. It is synthesized in two sequential reactions catalyzed by ${\gamma}$-glutamylcysteine synthetase (GCS) and glutathione synthetase (GS) in the presence of ATP. In this work, the effects of three different oxidative stresses were examined on GSH content and GSH-related enzyme activities in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. GSH content in S. pombe was significantly enhanced by treatment with hydrogen peroxide, ${\beta}$-naphthoflavone (BNF) and tert-butylhydroquinone (BHQ). Simultaneously, they greatly induced GCS and GS activity. However, they did not have any effects on glutathione reductase activity. These results suggest that GCS and GS activities in S. pombe are up-regulated by oxidative stress.

  • Integration of wind generators with the conventional power plants will raise operational challenges to the electric power utilities due to the uncertainty of wind availability. Thus, the Generation Scheduling (GS) among the online generating units has become crucial. This process can be formulated mathematically as an optimization problem. The GS problem of wind integrated power system is inherently complex because the formulation involves non-linear operational characteristics of generating units, system and operational constraints. As the robust tool is viable to address the chosen problem, the modern bio-inspired algorithm namely, Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is chosen as the main optimization tool. The intended algorithm is implemented on the standard test systems and the attained numerical results are compared with the earlier reports. The comparison clearly indicates the intended tool is robust and a promising alternative for solving GS problems.

  • Plant extract has attracted considerable interest in oral disease therapy. The present study was performed to observe the antibacterial effect on cariogenic Streptococcus mutans GS5 and Streptococcus sobrinus 6715, and periodontopathic Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans Y4 of phytoncide from Chamaecyparis obtusa Sieb. et Zucc employing the measurement of optical density, viable cell counts, and antibiotic sensitivity. The results were as follows: 1. Minimum inhibitory concentration of the phytoncide for S. mutans, S. sobrinus, and A. actinomycetemcomitans was observed to be 0.5%, 1%, and 0.2%, respectively. 2. Minimum bactericidal concentration of the phytoncide for S. mutans, S. sobrinus, and A. actinomycetemcomitans was determined to be 0.5%, 2%, and 0.2%, respectively. 3. The bacteria exposed to the phytoncide become more sensitive to antibiotics. The phytoncide enhanced significantly antibacterial activity of ampicillin against S. mutans and S. sobrinus. It also increased significantly the activity of penicillin and amoxicillin against S. sobrinus. In contrast, the phytoncide augmented the activity of amoxicillin and cefotaxime against A. actinomycetemcomitans but the increase was not statistically significant. The overall results indicate that phytoncide from Chamaecyparis obtusa Sieb. et Zucc used for this study has a strong antibacterial activity against cariogenic and periodontopathic bacteria and that it also has permeabilizing effect on certain antibiotics against these bacteria. Therefore, the phytoncide may be used as a candidate for prevention and therapeutic agent against oral infectious disease including dental caries and periodontal disease.
