  • Finite element vibration analysis of the trial 5x5 partial fuel assembly in the still water was performed using the substructure method. ANSYS software was used as a finite element modeling and modal analysis tool. The calculated natural frequencies of the partial fuel assembly were more consistent with the experimental results for the identical test model compared to the much larger solid model. This modeling technique can be utilized for the fuel assembly dynamic behavior analysis under normal operation, seismic and loss-of-coolant-accident analysis.

  • The free vibration characteristics of Al cantilever square plates with a brass inclusion were analyzed experimentally and numerically The experimentally obtained natural frequencies and mode shapes were compared with the FEM analysis results. The impulse exciting method was used for experiment and ANSYS software package was used for FEM analysis. The natural frequencies obtained iron experiment and numerical analysis matched within $0\%$. It was found that the natural frequencies of the Al cantilever square plates with a brass inclusion decrease as the size of inclusion increases. For the third mode shape, comparing the nodal line of the Al plate and the Al plate with a inclusion, the mode shape showed the reversed quadratic curve. The natural frequencies of inclusion plate were decreased as the location of inclusion moves from the clamped edge to the tree edge.

  • In general, we have used the finite element method(FEM) to find natural frequencies of plates. In this method, however, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and computation time because the FEM requires many degrees of freedom for finding natural frequencies of plates correctly. Therefore it was very difficult to analyze the free vibration of plates correctly on personal computer. For overcoming this disadvantage of the FEM, the authors have developed the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method(FE-TSCM) which is based on the concept of modeling techniques in the FEM and the transfer of the stiffness coefficient in the transfer stiffness coefficient method. In this paper, we formulate free vibration analysis algorithm of rectangular plates using the FE-TSCM. Some numerical examples of rectangular plates are proposed, and their results and computation times obtained by the FE-TSCM are compared with those by the FEM and the finite element-transfer matrix method in order to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the FE-TSCM.

  • In this study, the exact rigidity and the free vibration of trapezoidal corrugated plate are analyzed by being based on the Kirchhoff's plate theory and the Ritz method. The previous rigidity of corrugated plate analyzed by considering just a geometric characteristic, a basic assumption and an equivalent idea can cause large errors in practical behaviors. Accordingly, the exact rigidity supplemented by correction factors of the theoretical rigidity is needed. Therefore an analysis on the exact rigidity and the free vibration using the rigidity for the plate is performed in this paper.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of beam-columns resting on Pasternak foundation by the Differential Quadrature Method. Based on the differential equation subjected to the boundary conditions, adopted from the open literature, which governs the free vibrations of such member, this equation is applied to the Differential Quadrature Method. For computing natural frequencies, the numerical procedures are developed by QR Algorithm, in which the Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto method is used for choosing the grid points. The numerical methods developed herein for computing natural frequencies are programmed in FORTRAN code, and all solutions obtained in this study are quite agreed with those in the open literature.

  • The NDIF method(non-dimensional dynamic influence function method) for free vibration analysis of arbitrarily shaped plates with the simply supported edge is newly developed in the paper. In order to extract the system matrix that gives the natural frequencies and natural modes of the plate of interest, the difficulty of measuring higher differential terms involved in the simply supported boundary condition is successfully overcome. Finally, the excellence of the characteristics of convergence and accuracy of the proposed method is shown through two verification examples, which indicate that natural frequencies and natural modes obtained by the proposed method are very accurate and swiftly converged even though a small number of nodes are used compared with FEM.

  • A new method for free nitration analysis using series functions is proposed to obtain the eigenvalues of arbitrarily shaped, polygonal plates with clamped edges. Since a general solution used in the method satisfies the equation of motion for the transverse vibration of a plate, the method offers very accurate eigenvalues, compared to FEM or BEM results. In addition, the method can minimize the amount of numerical calculation because it has the advantage of not needing to divide the plate of interest. Two case studies show that the proposed method is valid and accurate when the eigenvalues by the proposed method are compared to those by FEM (NASTRAN) or another analytical method.

  • This paper is concerned with the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate with multiple circular holes. On the contrary to the case of rectangular plate with multiple rectangular holes, it is very difficult to perform qualitative analysis on natural vibration characteristics because of geometrical inconsistency. In this paper, we applied the Independent Coordinate Coupling Method(ICCM) to the addressed problem, which was developed to compute natural vibration characteristics of the rectangular plate with a circular hole and proven to be computationally effective. The ICCM is based on Rayleigh-Ritz method but utilizes independent coordinates for each hole domain. By matching the deflection conditions for each hole imposed on the expressions, we can easily derive the reduced mass and stiffness matrices. The resulting equation is then used for the calculation of the eigenvalue problem. The numerical results show the efficacy of the Independent Coordinate Coupling Method.

  • In this paper, double Fourier sine series is used as a modal displacement functions of a rectangular plate and applied to the free vibration analysis of a rectangular plate under various boundary conditions. The method of stationary potential energy is used to obtain the modal displacements of a plate. To enhance the flexibility of the double Fourier sine series, Lagrangian multipliers are utilized to match the geometric boundary conditions, and Stokes' transformation is used to handle the displacements that are not satisfied by the double Fourier sine series. The frequency parameters and mode shapes obtained by the present method are compared with those obtained by MSC/NASTRAN and other analysis.

  • The free vibration analysis of cantilever CFRP and GFRP composite rectangular plates with point supports at the free edge and interior position is performed. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of plates are experimentally determined by impact testing using an impact hammer. To compare and verify these experimental results, the finite element analysis is also carried out and the non-dimensional frequency parameters are compared with FE analysis results. The effects of the number and location of the point support on the frequencies are examined. In the experimental results, it is found that a significant increase in frequencies occurs when the point supports are added on certain parts of plates.
