Measurements of the initial values lead to an inverse and mathematically unprecisely formulated problem. A precise definition of an inverse problem is possible. It is to state a mathematical model of a physical process with clearly defined initial and exit values for the system behind the process. One can grasp the idea of an inverse problem by considering the tire as a copy of the objects of nature in a room with observations. Interpretation of nature is generally a result of an inverse problem. On one hand, the tire may be represented through the sensory organs and the nervous system as well as the experiences of the developer's existing apparatus of the projection of reality. On the other hand, it may be represented by a physical law or a model that can be confirmed or is to be refuted with the help of suitable measurements. During reconstruction of a measuring signal and the identification of a black box that can be assumed to be linear and causal, the tire becomes a first type Volterra integral equation of the convolution type. But measurements of the initial values are always fuzzy, the errors grow and the system behavior can no longer be forecasted. Thus, we have to deal with a chaotic system. This chaos produces fractals in a natural way. These are self-similar geometric structures. This self-similarity is clearly visible in the design.
Although the snowflake curve, the boundary of the Koch snowflake, is one of the well-known fractals, there is no iterated function system (IFS) for it in the literature. In this study, we give an IFS for this familiar closed curve.
The Golden Ratio has played a significant role in many parts of geometry, architecture, music, art, and philosophy. This number has been the subject of numerous experiments in psychology. It also appears in the newer domains of technology and fractals, In this paper, we investigate and analyze the golden ratio which appears in art, music, and architecture.
The fractal characteristics of AC electrical tree grown in DGEBA/MDA/ SN/HQ system was investigated. As the applied voltage decreased, tree initiated after retardation. All the trees were fractals in spite of tile applied voltage. Fractal dimension increased with tree length. When the tree grew slowly, the fractal dimension or tile degree of treeing deterioration increased.
As an application of dimensional analysis in the theory of chaos and fractals, we studied and estimated the information dimension for various phonemes. By constructing phase-space vectors from the time-series speech signals, we calculated the natural measure and the Shannon's information from the trajectories. The information dimension was finally obtained as the slope of the plot of the information versus space division order. The information dimension showed that it is so sensitive to the waveform and time delay. By averaging over frames for various phonemes, we found the information dimension ranges from 1.2 to 1.4.
For a ring R of imaginary quadratic integers, using a concept of a unitary number system in place of the Motzkin's universal side divisor, we show that the following statements are equivalent: (1) R is Euclidean. (2) R has a unitary number system. (3) R is norm-Euclidean. Through an application of the above theorem we see that R admits binary or ternary number systems if and only if R is Euclidean.
This research introduces three new fractal array configurations that have superior performance over the well-known Sierpinski fractal array. These arrays are based on the fractal shapes Dragon, Twig, and a new shape which will be called Flap fractal. Their superiority comes from the low side lobe level and/or the wide angle between the main lobe and the side lobes, which improves the signal-to-intersymbol interference and signal-to-noise ratio. Their performance is compared to the known array configurations: uniform, random, and Sierpinski fractal arrays.
Modular furniture's colors, materials, finishing materials and quantities are determined by users' tastes and it's diverse functions, shapes and sizes are determined by the spaces of users. That is, modules satisfy the diversity of consumers, meet differentiated individuals' tastes and enable communications with consumers rather than delivering one-way messages of designers. The contemporary spaces of the 21st century have been gradually shifting from uniform spaces attaching weight on individuals' individuality and tastes and along with it, the consumption of expensive custom-made furniture and foreign branded furniture is increasing to satisfy those small numbers of consumers who want to express diversified individuality. The modular furniture as a concept which is the most suitable to Mass Customization can be produced in large quantities while considering the diverse needs and tastes of individuals and it does not have absolute shapes or sizes. The concept of modular furniture shows similarities to the creation of fractals that forms shapes by self similarities, repeats and similar transformations which is in the same context as the characteristics of a modular design that presents diversity with scales, materials and jointing points. Fractals will be combined with the digital media of today to present great plasticity and influence designers more heavily. Pursuit of new modeling is a requisite for the creation of future spaces and it will require continuous creativity and the transformable modular furniture will contribute to the satisfaction of diverse consumers' needs. This study is to propose the modular furniture that considers the diversity of the public in the 21st century and their individuality and that will enable interactions between designers and consumers.
Gravels forming part of the base of flexible pavements experience abrasion and crushing as a result of static and dynamic loads. Abrasion takes place when the sharp corners of the particles of gravel are removed as a result of compressive and shear loads. As a result of abrasion, the particles change in shape. Crushing is caused by the fragmentation of the particles into a mixture of many small particles of varying sizes. In this study, the abrasion and crushing of gravels are evaluated experimentally and analytically. The laboratory component of this study involves gravels that were subjected to abrasion and dynamic compression tests. The evaluation of the abrasion and crushing experienced by the gravel was carried out using fractals. In this study, the fractal dimension concept from fractal theory is used to evaluate: (a) the changes in shape, and (b) the crushing (fragmentation) of the original particles of gravel. It was determined that the fractal dimension of the profile of the particles decreased as a result of abrasion. With respect to crushing, the fragmentation fractal dimension was found to increase with the degree of breakage of the gravel. To understand the influence of crushing on the permeability of the gravels, the hydraulic conductivity of the gravels was measured before and after crushing. The hydraulic conductivity of the gravels was found to decrease with an increase in their level of crushing. Also, changes in the angle of friction of the granular materials as a result of abrasion was calculated using the Krumbein's roundness chart. The angle of friction of the granular materials was found to decrease as a result of abrasion.
