  • A finite group G is called a $\mathcal{QNS}$-group if every minimal subgroup X of G is either quasinormal in G or self-normalizing. In this paper the authors classify the non-$\mathcal{QNS}$-groups whose proper subgroups are all $\mathcal{QNS}$-groups.

  • The aim of this short paper is to show some rigidity results for the actions of certain finitely presented groups by homeomorphisms. As an interesting and special case, we show that the actions of Higman-Thompson groups by homeomorphisms on a cohomology manifold with a non-zero Euler characteristic should be trivial. This is related to the wellknown Zimmer program and shows that the actions by homeomorphism could be very much different from those by diffeomorphisms.

  • The fundamental idea of this article is to present an effective way to obtain the large groups in terms of the split extension obtained by a finite cyclic group and a free abelian group rank 2. The proof of the main result on largeness property of this specific split extension groups will be given by using the connection of large groups with the groups having deficiency one presentations.

  • Investigation of the number of representations as well as of projective representations of a finite group has been important object since the early of this century. The numbers are very related to the number of conjugacy classes of G, so that this gives some informations on finite groups and on group characters. A generally well-known fact is that the number of non-equivlaent irreducible representations, which we shall write as n.i.r. of G is less than or equal to the number of conjugacy classes of G, and the equality holds over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not dividing $\mid$G$\mid$. A remarkable result on the numbers due to Reynolds can be stated as follows.

  • In J. Korean Math. Soc, Zhang, Xu and other authors investigated the following problem: what is the structure of finite groups which have many normal subgroups? In this paper, we shall study this question in a more general way. For a finite group G, we define the subgroup $\mathcal{A}(G)$ to be intersection of the normalizers of all non-cyclic subgroups of G. Set $\mathcal{A}_0=1$. Define $\mathcal{A}_{i+1}(G)/\mathcal{A}_i(G)=\mathcal{A}(G/\mathcal{A}_i(G))$ for $i{\geq}1$. By $\mathcal{A}_{\infty}(G)$ denote the terminal term of the ascending series. It is proved that if $G=\mathcal{A}_{\infty}(G)$, then the derived subgroup G' is nilpotent. Furthermore, if all elements of prime order or order 4 of G are in $\mathcal{A}(G)$, then G' is also nilpotent.

  • Let A be an abelian variety defined over a number field K and let L be a finite Galois extension of K. Let III(A/K) and III(A/L) denote, respectively, the Tate-Shafarevich groups of A over K and over L. Let $Res_{L/K}(A)$ be the restriction of scalars of A from L to K and let B be an abelian subvariety of $Res_{L/K}(A)$ defined over K. Assuming that III(A/L) is finite, we compute [III(B/K)][III(C/K)]/[III(A/L)], where [X] is the order of a finite abelian group X and the abelian variety C is defined by the exact sequence defined over K $0{\longrightarrow}B{\longrightarrow}Res_{L/K}(A){\longrightarrow}C{\longrightarrow}0$.

  • We show that if a finite group G acts freely with homotopically trivial translations on a 3-dimensional nilmanifold 𝓝p with the first homology ℤ2 ⊕ ℤp, then either G is cyclic or there exist finite nonabelian groups acting freely on 𝓝p which yield orbit manifolds homeomorphic to 𝓝/𝜋3 or 𝓝/𝜋4.

  • Let G be a finite group and let ν(G) be the probability that two randomly selected elements of G produce a nilpotent group. In this article we show that for every positive integer n > 0, there is a finite group G such that ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{n}}$. We also classify all groups G with ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{2}}$. Further, we prove that if G is a solvable nonnilpotent group of even order, then ${\nu}(G){\leq}{\frac{p+3}{4p}}$, where p is the smallest odd prime divisor of |G|, and that equality exists if and only if $\frac{G}{Z_{\infty}(G)}$ is isomorphic to the dihedral group of order 2p where Z(G) is the hypercenter of G. Finally we find an upper bound for ν(G) in terms of |G| where G ranges over all groups of odd square-free order.

  • The properties of the nonabelian tensor products are interesting in different contexts of algebraic topology and group theory. We prove two theorems, dealing with the nonabelian tensor products of projective limits of finite groups. The first describes their topology. Then we show a result of embedding in the second homology group of a pro-p-group, via the notion of complete exterior centralizer. We end with some open questions, originating from these two results.
