  • In many cases, ac line EMI filters are designed by trial and error method. Thus, designing a filter is a time-consuming process. To overcome the problem, the newly analytical design procedure is proposed in this paper. Using the modeling circuit of each filter components, the filter design is carried out applicable to both common-mode (CM) and differential-mode (DM). These are verified through the experimental results.

  • In this paper, the sliding mode-model following(SM-MF) power system stabilizer(PSS) including closed-loop feedback(CLF) for single machine system is extended to multimachine system. Simulation results show that the SM-MF multimachine stabilizer is able to achieve asymptotic tracking error between the reference model state and the controlled plant state at different initial conditions.

  • Convergence properties of the stochastic gradient adaptive algorithm based on the least mean absolute third (LMAT) error criterion is presented.In particular, the performnce of the algorithmis examined and compared with least mena square (LMS) algorithm for several different probability densities of the measurement noisein a system identification mode. It is observedthat the LMAT algorithm outperforms the LMS algorithm for most of the noise probability densities, except for the case of the exponentially distributed noise.

  • We investigate the effect of polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) on the optimum dispersion compensation (ODC) monitoring and nonlinear penalty in optical transmission systems. We report that PMD may reduce the fiber nonlinearity. We also report that the monitoring error of the clock-based ODC monitoring technique decreases after the first-order PMD compensation. A simple explanation of this phenomenon is shown.
