  • The electrical insulation design and withstanding test of mini-model coils for 600 kJ class conduction cooled high temperature superconducting magnetic energy storage (HTS SMES) have been studied in this paper. The high voltage is generated to both ends of magnet of HTS SMES by quench or energy discharge. Therefore, the insulation design of the high voltage needs for commercialization, stability, reliability and so on. In this study, we analyzed the insulation composition of a HTS SMES, and investigated about the insulation characteristics of the materials such as Kapton, AIN and vacuum in cryogenic temperature. Base on these results, the insulation design for 600 kJ conduction cooled HTS SMES was performed. The mini-model was manufactured by the insulation design, and the insulation test was carried out using the mini-model.

  • Air-cooling method is adopted on the basis of the requirements for the thermal stability and convenient field use of an electrical source transmitter. The power losses of the transmitter are determined after calculating the losses of the alternating current (AC)-direct current (DC) power supply, the constant-current circuit, and the output circuit. According to the analysis of the characteristics of a heat sink with striped fins and a fan, the engineering calculation expression of the Nusselt number and the design process for air-cooled dissipation are proposed. Experimental results verify that the error between calculated and measured values of the transmitter losses is 12.2%, which meets the error design requirements of less than 25%. Steady-state average temperature rise of the heat sink of the AC-DC power supply is $22^{\circ}C$, which meets the design requirements of a temperature rise between $20^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$. The transmitter has favorable thermal stability with 40 kW output power.

  • Successive approximation A/D converters have an advantage of small chip area and simple algorithm. We propose an improved non-redundant successive approximation register (SAR) which can be incorporated in successive approximation A/D converters. The proposed SAR validates the preset state as the $1^{st}$ reference voltage to the comparator. Two redundant clock cycles in the typical design could be eliminated in the proposed A/D converter.

  • In this paper, we consider the design of robust pole assignment for linear system. Considered uncertainty is time-varying uncertainty. Based on Lyapunov stability theorem and linear matrix inequality(LMI) we present the design result for pole assignment. Finally, we give some numerical examples to show the applicability and usefulness of our presented results.

  • An energy recovery sustaining driver with zero current switching to reduce switching losses and EMI is presented in this paper. The driver with designed snubber circuits reduces ringing voltage significantly on PDP so that the voltage rating of MOSFETs can be lower as well to reduce the cost of switches.
