This paper is concerned with investigating the asymptotic behavior of end effects for a generalized heat conduction problem with an added dissipation term defined on a three-dimensional semi-infinite cylinder. With homogeneous Dirichlet conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder it is shown that solutions either grow exponentially or decay exponentially in the distance from the finite end of the cylinder. In particular, to render decay estimate explicit, we pattern after the analysis of Payne and Song [13, 15]. The continuous dependence effect of perturbing the equations parameters is also investigated.

We show the existence of at least two solutions for a class of systems of the critical growth nonlinear suspension bridge equations with Dirichlet boundary condition and periodic condition. We first show that the system has a positive solution under suitable conditions, and next show that the system has another solution under the same conditions by the linking arguments.

We seek the sign changing periodic solutions of the nonlinear wave equation $u_{tt}-u_{xx}=a(x,t)g(u)$ under Dirichlet boundary and periodic conditions. We show that the problem has at least one solution or two solutions whether $\frac{1}{2}g(u)u-G(u)$ is bounded or not.

In this note, we are concerned with a class of semi-linear elliptic pdes with exponential nonlinearity in a bounded domain. Here, the nonlinearity is more or less growing exponentially with power p. We consider the problem under two types of Dirichlet boundary condition. We give existence and non-existence of solutions for those problems and some asymptotics.

In this paper, we express the Green function in terms of the classical kernel functions in potential theory. In particular, we obtain a formula relating the Green function and the Szegő kernel function which consists of only the Szegő kernel function in a $C^{\infty}$ smoothly bounded finitely connected domain in the complex plane.

A bifurcation problem for nonlinear partial differential equations of the form $$div({\varphi}(|{\nabla}u|){\nabla}u+{\mu}_0{\varphi}(|u|)u=q({\lambda},\;x,\;u,\;{\nabla}u)$$ subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions is discussed. Using a global bifurcation theorem of Rabinowitz type, we show that under certain conditions on $\varphi$ and q, the above equation has an unbounded connected set of solutions (u, $\lambda$).

In this paper, we investigated the extinction, positivity, and decay estimates of the solutions to the initial-boundary value problem of the semilinear parabolic equation with nonlinear gradient source and interior absorption terms by using the integral norm estimate method. We found that the decay estimates depend on the choices of initial data, coefficients and domain, and the first eigenvalue of the Laplacean operator with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition plays an important role in the proofs of main results.

We study the existence of nontrivial solutions of the Gradient type Dirichlet boundary value problem for elliptic systems of the form $-{\Delta}U(x)={\nabla}F(x,U(x)),x{\in}{\Omega}$, where ${\Omega}{\subset}R^N(N{\geq}1)$ is a bounded regular domain and U = (u, v) : ${\Omega}{\rightarrow}R^2$. To study the system we use the liking theorem on product space.

A problem of selecting the least probable cell in a multinomial distribution is studied in a Bayesian framework. We consider two loss components the cost of sampling and the difference in cell probabilities between the selected and the least probable cells. A Bayes sequential selection rule is derived with respect to a Dirichlet prior, and it is compared with the best fixed sample size selection rule. The continuation sets with respect to the vague prior are tabulated for certain cases.

We examine plane waves of the elastic reduced wave equation in the half-space, and show that linear combinations of them can cover all plane waves on the boundary. The proof is based on the complex analysis for the symbol in the (dual) variable in the normal direction to the boundary.
