  • We discuss a finite difference preconditioner for the$C^1$ Lagrance quadratic spline collocation method for a uniformly elliptic operator with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Using the generalized field of values argument, we analyzed eigenvalues of the matrix preconditioned by the matrix corresponding to a finite difference operator with zero boundary condition.

  • In this paper, we investigated the extinction, positivity, and decay estimates of the solutions to the initial-boundary value problem of the semilinear parabolic equation with nonlinear gradient source and interior absorption terms by using the integral norm estimate method. We found that the decay estimates depend on the choices of initial data, coefficients and domain, and the first eigenvalue of the Laplacean operator with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition plays an important role in the proofs of main results.

  • In this paper, we first discuss a representation of solutions to the initial value problem and the initial-boundary value problem for discrete evolution equations $${\sum\limits^l_{n=0}}c_n{\partial}^n_tu(x,t)-{\rho}(x){\Delta}_{\omega}u(x,t)=H(x,t)$$, defined on networks, i.e. on weighted graphs. Secondly, we show that the weight of each link of networks can be uniquely identified by using their Dirichlet data and Neumann data on the boundary, under a monotonicity condition on their weights.

  • This paper proposes a numerical method based on domain decomposition to find approximate solutions for one-dimensional convection-diffusion equations with Neumann boundary conditions. First, the equations are transformed into convection-diffusion equations with Dirichlet conditions. Second, the author introduces the Prediction/Correction Domain Decomposition (PCDD) method and estimates errors for the interface prediction scheme, interior scheme, and correction scheme using known error estimations. Finally, the author compares the PCDD algorithm with the fully explicit scheme (FES) and the fully implicit scheme (FIS) using three examples. In comparison to FES and FIS, the proposed PCDD algorithm demonstrates good results.

  • We investigate the multiplicity of the nontrivial periodic solutions for a class of the system of the nonlinear suspension bridge equations with Dirichlet boundary condition and periodic condition. We show that the system has at least two nontrivial periodic solutions by the abstract version of the critical point theory on the manifold with boundary. We investigate the geometry of the sublevel sets of the corresponding functional of the system and the topology of the sublevel sets. Since the functional is strongly indefinite, we use the notion of the suitable version of the Palais-Smale condition.

  • In [15] they introduced a new finite element method for accurate numerical solutions of Poisson equations with corner singularities, which is useful for the problem with known stress intensity factor. They consider the Poisson equations with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, compute the finite element solution using standard FEM and use the extraction formula to compute the stress intensity factor, then they pose a PDE with a regular solution by imposing the nonhomogeneous boundary condition using the computed stress intensity factor, which converges with optimal speed. From the solution we could get accurate solution just by adding the singular part. This approach works for the case when we have the accurate stress intensity factor. In this paper we consider Poisson equations with mixed boundary conditions and show the method depends the accrucy of the stress intensity factor by considering two algorithms.

  • In order to study the influence of a circular inclusion on a stress field neat a crack tip, mutual interference of a crack and the circular inclusion is analyzed by using the two dimensional boundary element method program made for the analysis of a bimaterial inclusion. The stress intensity factor of an inclusion which has small stiffness is a little greater than that of large stiffness in the near-by crack tip, and similar values tends to appear for distant crack tips. A line crack shows the repetition phenomena which caused by stress mutual interference depending on the radius and stiffness of an inclusion, and the repetition phenomena becoms weak in the inclusion which has large stiffness. Stress mutual interference shows repetition phenomena after extension of a line crack by the length of the radius of the inclusion which has small stiffness.

  • We investigate the multiple nontrivial solutions of the asymmetric beam equation $u_{tt}+u_{xxxx}=b_1[{(u + 2)}^+-2]+b_2[{(u + 3)}^+-3]$ with Dirichlet boundary condition and periodic condition on t. We reduce this problem into a two-dimensional problem by using variational reduction method and apply the Mountain Pass theorem to find the nontrivial solutions of the equation.

  • We prove a theorem which shows the existence of at least three ${\pi}$-periodic solutions of the wave equation with asymptotical linearity. We obtain this result by the finite dimensional reduction method which reduces the critical point results of the infinite dimensional space to those of the finite dimensional subspace. We also use the critical point theory and the variational method.

  • In this paper we investigate the existence of solutions of a nonlinear wave equation $u_{tt} - u_{xx} = p(x, t, u)$$ in $H_0$, where $H_0$ is the Hilbert space spanned by eigenfunctions. If p satisfy condition $(p_1) - (p_3)$, this nonlinear gave equation has at least one solution.
