The effects of pH, glycerol concentration and salt on cell growth and ethanol production using Enterobacter aerogenes KCTC 2190 were evaluated in the anaerobic culture condition. In condition of initial pH 5, cell growth and ethanol production were highest. An initial concentration of 10 g/L of pure glycerol gave the highest cell growth and ethanol production. However, in case of over 15 g/L of pure glycerol, they decreased. The cell growth and ethanol production decreased with the increase of salt concentration. When 10 g/L of crude glycerol was used as the carbon source, the cell growth and ethanol production were $1.32\;OD_{600}$ and 3.95 g/L, respectively, which were about 94.4% and 88.5% compared to those of pure glycerol. These result indicates that the crude glycerol produced in the biodiesel manufacturing process maybe useful as a potential carbon source for ethanol production form Enterobacter aerogenes KCTC 2190.
Objective : This study was to examine the effects of Doin-Angyo program, evidenced by East Asian Medicine literatures, on stress among smoking adolescents. Method : This study was a prospective community trial using a one-group, pretest-posttest design. As an intervention, Doin-Angyo program was implemented for 10 minutes per session, 3 days a week, for 6 weeks to smoking students who attend a Girl's high school. Psychological stress was measured by self-report questionnaire and physiological stress was measured by salivary cortisol. The final sample for the questionnaire included 18 participants. In addition, pre- and post-salivary cortisol levels of 24 adolescents participating in the last session were compared in order to identify the acute effects of Doin-Angyo program in reducing stress. Results : There were no significant differences in overall stress-test results from the comparisons before and after the intervention. However, we found a significant going-down of the stress level(p = .032) in the question, "About School-work" among six sub-category questions. From the salivary cortisol tests in the last session, we found, in comparison with the standard salivary cortisol density level, $0.3{\mu}g/dL$, the density level tended to go down(p = .062) when higher than the standard, and it went up(p = .001) when lower than the standard, after 10 minute session. Conclusion : The results of this pilot study supported the partial effect of Doin-Angyo program in reducing the stress levels. The study protocol and results can be used to elaborate the community trials design aiming to prove the effect of Korean Medicine based health promotion modalities.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to compare the ability to control postural sway during perturbation when stroke patients received postural sway induced by head rotation. Methods: This study included 15 stroke patients and 15 healthy adults. Each group was measured by 3D motion analysis for determination of the angle of the neck in static position and by balance performance monitor for estimation of swaying angle in both neutral posture and head rotation position. These results were then analyzed in order to compare the healthy control group and the stroke patients group. Results: In both static posture ($60.7{\pm}4.81$) and dynamic posture ($51.46{\pm}6.87$, $70.8{\pm}6.55$), significant decreases were observed in the angle of head rotation of the patient group, compared to the healthy group (p<0.05), and significant decreases were observed in the sway angle of the patient group when in the neutral position ($3.62{\pm}7$, $24{\pm}0.60$) and head rotation ($3.04{\pm}0.80$, $51.46{\pm}6.87$), compared to the healthy group (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to these findings, patients with stroke tend to restrict the ROM of head rotation and swaying angle in dynamic posture and maintain their posture instability using limitation of head movement relative to the trunk and sway angle of area which is larger than that of affected side in unaffected side.

The purpose of this research was to develop a the reflection technique with near infrared (NIR) radiation for estimating physico-chemical properties in compost. The composts (cattle, pig, chicken and waste composts) were air dried and then ground to pass through a 0.5 or 2mm sieve for the physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic determinations. The physico-chemical properties of compost were shown high values ; moisture(30-60%), T-N(0.8-2.9%), organic matter(29-89%), pH(5.89-9.60) K$_2$O(0.27-5.66%), P2O$\sub$5/(0.07-2.62%), CaO(0.03-4.80%), MgO(0.09-1.56%), NaCl(0.01-1.13%), EC(1.41-13.76dS/m). Generally, we should select a simple calibration and prediction method for determining physico-chemical properties in compost under similar accuracy and precision of prediction. It should be remembered that the NIRS approach will never replace the traditional methods. However, NIRS technique may be an effective method for rapid and nondestructive measurements of a large number of compost samples. Near infrared reflectance spectra of composts was obtained by Infra Alyzer 500 scanning spectrophotometer at 2-nm intervals from 1100 to 2500nm. Multiple linear regression(MLR) or partial least square regression (PLSR) was used to evaluate a NIRS method for the rapid and nondestructive determination of physico-chemical properties and humic acid contents in composts. The standard error of prediction(SEP) for finely sized sample(<0.5mm) and coarsely sized sample(<2mm) did not show much difference. The NIR instrument of filter type showed the same accuracy of the monochromator scanning type to estimate the compost properties. The results summarized that NIR spectroscopy can be used as a routine testing method to determine quantitatively the OM, moisture, T-N, color, pH, cation content in the compost samples nondestructively.
Bone remodeling is characterized by the continuing processes of osteoblast-mediated bone formation and osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Bone metabolism is tightly regulated at the local level by networks of hormones, cytokines, and other factors. In pathological conditions of bone remodeling, including osteoporosis and periodontal diseases, inflammatory cytokines and local mediators are responsible for enhancement of osteoclast resorption and inhibition of repair at the sites of bone resorption. TNF-${\alpha}$ is a pleiotropic hormone with actions on the differentiation, growth, and functional activities of normal and malignant cells from numerous tissues. TNF-${\alpha}$ has been proposed as a local mediator of the control of bone turnover in situations of chronic inflammation, and it has been assumed that the local source of TNF-${\alpha}$ is the monocyte in the adjacent bone marrow or the local circulation. TNF-${\alpha}$ is a potent inducer of bone resorption. TNF-${\alpha}$ is known to induce the activation of apoptotic signaling pathway, which leads to the apoptosis of bone cells. We demonstrated that treatment of murine osteoblastic MC3T3E1 cells with TNF-${\alpha}$ decreases proliferation as well as alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in a dose depenent manner. In addition, TNF-${\alpha}$ increases osteoclast-like cell formation in $1{\alpha}$, 25(OH)2D3 or PGE2-treated bone marrow cell culture. When cells were cultured in TNF-${\alpha}$ free ${\alpha}$-MEM, this inhibitory effect of ALP activity was reversible up to 10 ng/ml TNF-${\alpha}$, in contrast, at the 20 ng/ml TNF-${\alpha}$, irreversible. In this concentration, TNF-${\alpha}$ may induce apoptosis in MC3T3E1 cells. In this study, TNF-${\alpha}$ induces apoptosis resulting in chromosomal DNA fragmentation, preceded by JNK/SAPKs and caspase-3 activation. Our present results show that JNK/SAPKs and caspase-3 are activated by TNF-${\alpha}$, suggesting that the JNK/SAPKs and caspase-3 participate in the bone resorption, associated with apoptosis.

In general, patients' health seeking behaviours can be affected by three factors ; psychological factor, economic factor and health delivery system. This study was focused on how the psychological factor affect to health seeking behaviour influenced by the various attitude of residents toward medical resources in their community. A total of 306 households were sampled for the investigation among residents of Banwol-Eup which was an industrial city newly developed. The data has been collected by interview method using close ended questionnaire. The major findings are ; 1) the respondents' attitude toward medical institutions in their community has shown negative responses (rate of negative attitude (a) 81.3%- facilities (b) 40.7% medical expenses (c) 21.1%-kindness of employees of medical facilities (d)59.0%- the degree of thorough explanation to patient on medical examination (e) 58.2%-doctors' practical competency). Above all, they have shown negative response on doctors explanation on results of medical examination and doctors' practical competency. 2) The study indicated a significant difference in health seeking behaviour between the group of positive attitude and that of negative attitude. 3) A big difference between the above mentioned two groups was identified as the attitude toward sub dimension of practical competency.

In this paper, we investigated the dependence of device performance and hot carrier lifetime on the channel direction of PMOSFET. $I_{D.sat}$ vs. $I_{Off}$ characteristic of PMOSFET with <100> channel direction is greater than that with <110> channel direction because carrier mobility of <100> channel direction is greater than that of <110> channel direction. However, hot carrier lifetime for <110> channel direction is much lower than that with <110> channel due to the greater impact ionization rate in the <100> channel direction. Therefore, concurrent consideration of reliability characteristics and device performance is necessary for channel strain engineering of MOSFETs.

Fin-type SONOS (silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon) flash memory has emerged as novel devices having superior controls over short channel effects(SCE) than the conventional SONOS flash memory devices. However despite these advantages, these also exhibit undesirable characteristics such as corner effect. Usually, the corner effect deteriorates the performance by increasing the leakage current. In this paper, the corner effect of fin-type SONOS flash memory devices is investigate by 3D Process and device simulation and their electrical characteristics are compared to conventional SONOS devices. The corner effect has been observed in fin-type SONOS device. The reason why the memory characteristic in fin-type SONOS flash memory device is not improved, might be due to existing undesirable effect such as corner effect as well as the mutual interference of electric field in the fin-type structure as reported previously.
In this paper a new generalized space vector pulse width modulation scheme is proposed based on the principle of reverse mapping to drive the switches of multilevel inverters. This projected scheme is developed based on the middle vector of the subhexagon which holds the tip of the reference vector, which plays a major role in mapping the reference vector. A new approach is offered to produce middle vector of the subhexagon which holds tip of the reference vector in the multilevel space vector plane. By using middle vector of the subhexagon, reference vector is linked towards the inner two level sub-hexagon. Then switching vectors, switching sequence and dwell times corresponding to a particular sector of a two-level inverter are determined. After that, by using the two level stage findings, the switching vectors related to exact position of the reference vector are directly generated based on principle of the reverse mapping approach and do not need to be found at n level stage. In the reverse mapping principle, the middle vector of subhexagon is added to the formerly found two level switching vectors. The proposed generalized algorithm is efficient and it can be applied to an inverter of any level. In this paper, the proposed scheme is explained for a five-level inverter and the performance is analyzed for five level and three level inverters through MATLAB. The simulation results are validated by implementing the propose scheme on a V/f controlled three-level inverter fed induction motor using dSPACE control desk.

Space systems are operating in a changing and uncertain space environment and are desired to have autonomous capability for long periods of time without frequent telecommunications from the ground station At the same time. requirements for new set of projects/systems calling for ""autonomous"" operations for long unattended periods of time are emerging. Since, by the nature of space systems, it is desired that they perform their mission flawlessly and also it is of extreme importance to have fault-tolerant sensor/actuator sub-systems for the purpose of validating science measurement data for the mission success. Technology innovations attendant on autonomous data validation and health monitoring are articulated for a growing class of autonomous operations of space systems. The greatest need is on focus research effort to the development of a new class of fault-tolerant space systems such as attitude actuators and sensors as well as validation of measurement data from scientific instruments. The characterization for the next step in evolving the existing control processes to an autonomous posture is to embed intelligence into actively control. modify parameters and select sensor/actuator subsystems based on statistical parameters of the measurement errors in real-time. This research focuses on the identification/demonstration of critical technology innovations that will be applied to Autonomous Spacecraft Health Monitoring/Data Validation Control Systems (ASHMDVCS). Systems (ASHMDVCS).
