  • The purpose of this study were to develop a rating scale for screening preschoolers' creative characteristics and to examine the validity and reliability of this scale. The subjects were 85 4-5 year olds, their mothers, and teachers in Seoul. The preliminary scale of the Rating Scale for Creative Characteristics of Preschoolers(RSCCP)'was developed as a 47-item 5-point rating scale and consisted of 5 factors. 5 factors. 5 factors were 'uniqueness=-curiosity', 'openness-humor', 'sensitivity-many interest', 'imagination-playfulness', and 'independence-perseverance'. The inter-correlations among the 5 factors ranged from .31-.71. For the criterion validity, Wallach & Kogan's Creativity Test(Foster, 1971) and children's drawing were used, and for the convergence validity, the scores rated by mothers and the scores rated by leachers were compared. Test-retest reliability was .69 and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ ranged from .76-.90. There found no significant correlations between the RSCCP scale and the 2 criterion tests, and the paired t-test for the total scores of the scale rated by the mothers and the teachers showed no differences.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out what are the major motivations of middle and high school students to quit attempts and stay as non-smokers. Method: Data was collected through focus group interviews with 3 groups(15 students), and was analyzed according to Morgan and Kruger(1998)'s analytic method. Results: We identified 6 categories of motivations for Smoking Cessation. They include perceptions of negative consequences of smoking on health, influences in significant others, being ashamed of oneself, drop of academic achievements, narrowness in interpersonal relationships, determining priorities for a student. Although 'perceptions about negative health consequences' was one of the most significant motivation of smoking cessation for adolescents, participants did not know the seriousness of nicotine addiction. Moreover, their contents of motivations were different from those of adults such as responsibility for their family, decreasing curiosity about smoking and test of self willingness. Also most of them were extrinsic motivations and related to their highly competitive school life. Conclusion: To conclude, considering the results of our analysis, smoking cessation programs should be carefully developed to more effectively help adolescents quit and stay away from smoking.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a moving-forward solution to the menu development of traditional foods from the analyses results, by surveying 180 college students with food majors in order to identify what effects the acceptability of traditional foods bring to menu development and their correlations. As the result showed, the acceptability of Korean traditional foods was lowering generally due to the popularity of light meals like fast food. Nevertheless, college students with majors of foodservice, cooking and foods than the students with other majors chose one-dish meals and the kinds of soup and pot stews as a favorite food more in terms of curiosity and taste, by which they were implied to have been positioned as popular foods as such. Accordingly, in order to raise the acceptability of traditional foods among other students more when the college students with food majors get related jobs in future, the development of related curricula mainly focused on simplification and standardization in menu combination is more weighted than anything else.

  • There are many concerns about the use and abuse of both licit and illicit substances among adolescents. This study was performed to understand the drinking status and drinking behaviur of middle school students. Self reports on drinking behaviur, dietary habits and one-day dietary records were obtained from 213 boys and 202 girls using anonymous questionnaires. One hundred and forty five of 415 students(34.9%) have experienced drinking and 48.3% of them initiated it at primary school. The motivation for first drinking was different between boys and girls; ' after sacrificial rite' for boys, ' curiosity' for girls. The most plausible reasons for drinking were ' boredom' and ' stress reduction' , and they felt the strongest desire to drink when they felt ' anger or frustration' Drinking behavior was not significantly different between male and female student except in the motivation for first drinking. But interestingly, the girls drank with friends mostly, while the boys drank with their parents. Drinking-experienced students showed significantly high rates of skipping meals and in particular skipping breakfast. DVS was found as $14.71\pm{4.51}$ and $13.95\pm{4.69}$ in non-drinking and drinking, respectively. This study showed that the drinking experience of middle school students were initiated earlier in primary school, and that drinking behavior of female students was not different with that of male student.

  • The purpose of this paper is to illuminate how Suzan-Lori Parks reveals colonized oppression and violence in a black woman's body in Venus. The body of Hottentot Venus is an 'object' of white male spectators' gazes and a dissection from a medical study. The report on her pathologic anatomy gives the audience the illusion that the body of a black woman is inferior to those of others. Not only 'subjective' aesthetics, but also 'objective' medicine makes us confuse 'fact' with 'truth' about black women. By publicly exhibiting her erotic body, Venus is represented as a singular emblem for nineteenth-century colonial discourse on race and sexuality. Her body stands for the powerful signifier of raped Africa. A distinctive feature of black Venus is her raciality. The ownership of her body is only transferred from Mother-Showman to Doctor Baron. She had no right to her ownership. Her body is an object of hatred and curiosity and at the same time a site which is represented by conflicting desires. Parks' eventual goal in Venus is to investigate 'hindsight' of Venus Hottentot, 'the past' and 'the posterior'. As the meaning of original chocolate can be regained, the insulted and damaged body of Venus should also be recovered and resurrected.

  • Euclid's Elements has been considered as the stereotype of logical and deductive approach to mathematics in the history of mathematics. Nonetheless, it has been criticized by its dryness and difficulties for learning. It is worthwhile to noticing mathematicians' struggle for providing some alternatives to Euclid's Elements. One of these alternatives was written by a French scientist, Pardies who called it 'Elemens de Geometrie ou par une methode courte & aisee l'on peut apprendre ce qu'il faut scavoir d'Euclide, d'Archimede, d'Apllonius & les plus belles inventions des anciens & des nouveaux Geometres.' A precedent research presented its historical meaning in traditional mathematics of China and Joseon as well as its didactical meaning in mathematics education with the overview of this book. However, it has a limitation that there isn't elaborate comparison between Euclid's and Pardies'in the aspects of contents as well as the approaching method. This evokes the curiosity enough to encourage this research. So, this research aims to compare Pardies' Elements and Euclid's Elements. Which propositions Pardies selected from Euclid's Elements? How were they restructured in Pardies' Elements? Responding these questions, the researcher confirmed his easy method of learning geometry intended by Pardies.
