  • The present research studied the relationship between children's social competence and popularity and examined popularity variables for the prediction of children's social competence. The subjects of this study were 80 children, 40 boys and 40 girls at age 5. Children's social competence was measured by the children's teachers with the use of the Social Competence Scale (Kohn & Rossman, 1972). Children's popularity and unpopularity were obtained from the subjects with the use of Moore's (1973) Sociometric Status Test. Teacher's estimate of the popularity of children was obtained with the use of Connolly & Doyle's (1981) Teacher Rankings of Popularity. The analysis of the data was by Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. There were significant relationships between children's social competence and popularity (children's popularity, children's unpopularity, teacher's popularity). Teacher's estimate of child's popularity was the best variable with which to predict children's social competence, the second best variable was children's popularity as measured by Moore's Sociometric Test.

  • Factor analysis of data collected from 336 elementary school children provided difficuitness and susceptibility as the temperament factors, and affect and control as the nurturing factors. Results showed that non-susceptible children with low controlling mother perceived their cognitive competence positively while highly susceptible children showed no differences in their self-competence by mothers' controlling behavior. Perceived cognitive competence of susceptible boys and of susceptible 3rd graders were low when their mothers asserted low control. Thus, mothers' controlling behavior supported perceived cognitive competence in highly susceptible boys and 3rd graders. That is, the effect of mother's behavior on child's self-competence was moderated by child's characteristics. These results partially supported the Conditional Model.

  • The purpose of this study was to recognize the effects of parenting behaviors as perceived by female high school students on their loneliness and perceived competence. The subjects of this research consisted of 301 female high school students. The data collected were analyzed by multi-regression analysis. The father and mother's behaviors, defined as inconsistency, intrusiveness, physical abuse and neglect, all- resulted in increased levels of loneliness amongst the subjects, and also negatively influenced their perceived competence. However, the parent's monitoring, reasoning and affection behaviors tended to reduced loneliness and perceived lack of competence. The father and mother's affection, when recognized as such by female adolescents, revealed itself to be a positive influence on their various areas of perceived competence. In conclusion, parenting behaviors may affect loneliness and perceived competence on the part of female adolescents during the ego-identity formation stage.

  • The present study investigated children's self-perceived competence as related to (1) their perception of parental warmth and control (2) age and sex of child (3) the relationship of this perception to parents' educational level and children's sex. The subjects were 303 fourth and sixth grade children selected from three elementary schools in Seoul. The instruments were a children's self-perceived competence scale, and a perception of parental warmth and control scale. Frequencies, percentiles, mean, t-test, one-way-ANOVA, and $Scheffe{\acute{e}}$-test were used for data analysis. There were significant differences in children's self-perceived competence by perception of parental warmth and control. The children who perceived more parental warmth and control perceived themselves higher in cognitive and social competence and in self-worth. Children whose parents' were college graduates perceived highest parental warmth. Fourth grade children perceived themselves higher than sixth grade children in cognitive competence and in global self-worth. Boys perceived themselves higher than girls in physical competence. Boys perceived higher parental control than girls.

  • Child's temperament, cognitive ability, social competence, mother's affective child rearing and positive expression, father's positive expression, and teacher's positive expression were the variables investigated in relation to the structure of children's emotional competence (EC). Subjects were 20 teachers and 236 five-year-old children and their parents. Data were analyzed by LISREL (Linear Structural Relations), a statistical program for structural equation modeling. Results showed that boys' social competence and mother's affective rearing behavior directly influenced the EC of boys; boys temperament and cognitive ability, and positive expressions of their teachers indirectly influenced the EC of boys. Girls' temperament and social competence directly influenced the EC of girls; their cognitive ability, mother's affective child rearing behavior, and positive expressions of mothers and fathers indirectly influenced the EC of girls.

  • This study examined the effects on preschooler's social competence of preschooler's emotional regulation strategies and maternal attitude toward child's emotional expressiveness. Subjects were 57 3-to 5-year-old preschoolers, their mothers and 3 teachers in their classes. Data were adapted from the Social Intelligence part of Project Spectrum and analyzed by Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. Findings were that : (1) preschoolers' positive emotion regulation strategies significantly explained their social competence. (2) Older children showed higher social competence than younger children; the effect of children's age on social competence was more influential than emotional strategies or maternal attitudes. In conclusion, preschooler's emotion regulation strategies are an important factor as their social competence develops with age.

  • This study examined the association among practical teaching competence (PTC) and teaching efficacy (TE), and explored the mediation effects of theoretical teaching competence (TTC) between the PTC and TE of Practical Arts (Technology and Home Economics Education) teachers. Data were collected from the 301 survey responses completed by elementary, middle, and high school teachers. All teachers showed high levels of PTC, TTC, and TE. Elementary school teachers perceived higher PTC than middle and high school teachers. PTC, TTC, TE showed significant effect in regards to teacher's age and teaching career. Using multiple regression analysis, this study found that TTC fully mediated PTC and TE of elementary school teachers. For middle and high school teachers, there was a partial mediation effect of TTC in the relationship between PTC and TE. This study suggests that teacher education programs should develop a program that can enhance teaching efficacy by cultivating TTC and support teachers who want to strengthen competence, and more practical opportunities to practice teaching.

  • This study examines the supervision competence of supervisor from the comparative perspective of supervisor and supervisee, and investigates the effects of organizational factors on supervisor's supervision competence. For this purpose, data collected from 241 workers at social welfare agencies in Gyeonggi-do were analyzed through t-test and hierarchical regression analysis. The major results of data analysis are as follows. First, supervisors are more positive than supervisees in terms of supervision competence. Second, there is a statistically significant difference between two groups in supervision knowledge and qualities among the subfields of supervision competence. Third, in the case of supervisors, the younger the age and the higher the education level, the more positively they perceive their supervision competence, and agency's supervision support explains supervision competence at the level of △R2 = .305 at p> .001. Finally, based on the results of this study, the directions for strengthening the supervision competence were suggested.

The subjects of this study were 131 nursing students and the data collection was from November 5 to 30, 2018. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. Significant relationships were found among communication competence and compassionate competence and academic self-efficacy. Motivation for admission, adaptation of nursing, participation on practice and compassion competence were found to academic self-efficacy. Therefore, in order to increase the academic self-efficacy it is necessary to make efforts to increase the participation on practice and to improve compassion competence as a strategy to increase academic self-efficacy of nursing students.
