  • The MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol is needed for the OLT(Optical Line Termination) to allocate bandwidth to ONUs(Optical Network Units) and ONTs(Optical Network Terminations) dynamically in the ATM PON(Passive Optical Network). With the protocol, the OLT gathers ONUs' informations and provides grants efficiently to each ONU. Two important functions of the MAC protocol is the grant request procedure and the grant distribution algrithm. The latter has the greatest arithmetic portion in the TC(Transmission Convergence) module, occupies a relatively large portion of the overall chip area, has often been the limiting factor in terms of speed, and should be designed to guarantee the quality of service for various traffics. In this paper, we implement the MAC with the FPGA which can allocate grants dynamically according to the queue length information and the number of active ONUs and distribute grants uniformly to minimize the cell delay variation for each ONU. The structure of the MAC scheduler for the dynamic bandwidth assignment has a programmable look-up table. Also, it has a simple structure, the less chip area, and the lower delay time.

  • Digital decimation filter is inevitable in oversampled sigma-delta A/D converters for the sake of reducing the oversampled rate to Nyquist rate. This paper presented a Verilog-HDL design and implementation of an area-efficient digital decimation filter that provides time-to-market advantage for sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters. The digital decimation filter consists of CIC(cascaded integrator-comb) filter and two cascaded half-band FIR filters. A CSD(canonical signed digit) representation of filter coefficients is used to minimize area and reduce in hardware complexity of multiplication arithmetic. Coefficient multiplications are implemented by using shifters and adders. This three-stage decimation filter is fabricated in $0.25-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and incorporates $1.36mm^2$ of active area, shows 4.4 mW power consumption at clock rate of 2.8224 MHz. Measured results show that this digital decimation filter is suitable for digital audio decimation filters.

  • The design of best efficient production process is common requirements of the production strategy department and the process planning department to maximize the revenue and accomplish target production volumes in the production periods. And they use several general methods for that-line-balancing, removing of the bottle-neck process, facility ramp-up, increasing of the worker's utilization, etc. But, those methods have depended on analytic, static and arithmetic calculations, yet. So, irregular work-waiting time causing the delay time isn't include in extracting production capacity, especially in the line production process. The work-waiting time is changed irregularly along the variation of each machine and very important for calculate real product lead-time and forecasting target production volumes. At this thesis, i'm going to mention the importance of the delay time of conveyor system which can be extracted by discrete-event simulation. And suggest it as a new main variable that must be considered at designing new production system. Then experimented and tested that's effects in the H-company case, conveyor based line production process.

  • For the genetic differentiation of $Pseudomonas$ $syringae$ pathovar $tomato$, a total of 51 $P.$ $syringae$ pv. strains infecting 33 different host plants were analyzed using repetitive element PCR(REP-PCR) and universal rice primer PCR(URP-PCR). The entire DNA fingerprint profiles were analyzed using unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic averages (UPGMA). The 51 $P.$ $syringae$ pv. strains could be divided into five clusters based on 65% similarity by Rep-PCR using BOX, ERIC, and REP primers. $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ cluster was well separated from other 31 $P.$ $syringae$ pathovars. $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ cluster included only $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $maculicola$ and $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$. $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ strains could be divided into two genetic groups. Meanwhile, the Pseudomonas pv. strains could be divided into four clusters based on 63% similarity by URP-PCR using 2F, 9F, and 17R primers. $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ cluster was also well separated from 30 other $P.$ $syringae$ pathovars. In this case, $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ cluster included $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $maculicola$, $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $berberidi$, and $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$. $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ strains was also separated into two genetic groups by URP-PCR analysis. Overall, our work revealed that $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ can be genetically differentiated from other $P.$ $syringae$ pathovars by the DNA fingerprint profiles of REP-PCR and URP-PCR. We first report that there are two genetically diverged groups in $P.$ $syringae$ pv. $tomato$ strains.

  • 1,3-butadiene is classified as suspected human carcinogen, group A2(American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, ACGIH). In Korea, 1,3-butadiene has been used as a raw material; monomer, homopolymer, polybutadiene latex, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) and styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR), in the petrochemistry and precision chemistry industry. As petrochemistry industry in Korea has been developed, the potential exposure possibility of 1,3-butadiene to workers can be increased. Therefore the purpose of this study is to evaluate airborne 1,3-butadiene concentration and workers' exposure levels in the workplace using 1,3-butadiene. Air samples were collected with 4-tert-butyl catechol(TBC) charcoal tube(100 mg/50 mg) and were analyzed by gas chromatograph/flame ionization detector(GC/FID) according to the Choi's method(2002). Geometric mean (GM) and arithmetic mean (AM) of total 59 workers' exposure concentrations to airborne 1.3-butadiene were 0.042 ppm and 1.51 ppm, respectively. Although most samples were lower than 1ppm, 2 samples(21.5ppm and 33.1ppm as 8hr-TWA) were exceeded the Korean standard(2ppm) over 10 times at the repair process in synthetic rubber and resin manufacture industry. 14 samples(41%) of total 34 short-term air samples were exceeded the Korean standard(10ppm as STEL) of Ministry Labor. 1,3-butadiene concentration(GM) in the synthetic rubber and resin manufacture industry(7.87ppm) was significantly higher than that in the monomer manufacure industry (0.35ppm)(p<0.05). Also in the sampling and repair process, each GM(range) was 1.39ppm(N.D.-469.6ppm) and 7.85ppm(N.D.-410.2ppm). In conclusion, it depends on the industry and process, 1,3-butadiene can be exposed to workers as high concentration for short-term.

  • This paper presents the design of 32 bit microprocessor for a sequence control using a field programmable gate array(FPGA). The microprocessor was designed by a VHDL with top down method, the program memory was separated from the data memory for high speed execution of sequence instructions. Therefore it was possible that sequence instructions could be operated at the same time during the instruction fetch cycle. In order to reduce the instruction decoding time and the interface time of the data memory interface, an instruction code size was implemented by 32 bits. And the real time debug operation was implemented for easeful debugging the designed processor with a single step run, PC break point run, data memory break point run. Also in this designed microprocessor, pulse instructions, step controllers, master controllers, BM and BCD type arithmetic instructions, barrel shift instructions were implemented for sequence logic control. The FPGA was synthesized under a Xilinx's Foundation 4.2i Project Manager using a V600EHQ240 which contains 600,000 gates. Finally simulation and experiment were successfully performed respectively. For showing good performance, the designed microprocessor for the sequence logic control was compared with the H8S/2148 microprocessor which contained many bit instructions for sequence logic control. The designed processor for the sequence logic showed good performance.

  • In this paper, a distributed arithmetic digital neural network with learning and testing phase implemented in a body has been studied. The proposed technique is based on the two facts; one is that the weighting coefficients adjusted will be stored in registers without shift, because input values or input patterns are not changed while learning and the other is that the input patterns stored in registers are not changed while testing. The proposed digital neural network is simulated by hardware description language such as VHDL and verified the performance that the neural network was applied to the recognition of seven-segment. To verify proposed neural networks, we compared the learning process of modified perceptron learning algorithm simulated by software with VHDL for 7-segment number recognizer. The results are as follows: There was a little difference in learning time and iteration numbers according to the input pattern, but generally the iteration numbers are 1000 to 10000 and the learning time is 4 to 200$\mu\textrm{s}$. So we knew that the operation of the neural network is learned in the same way with the learning of software simulation, and the proposed neural networks are properly operated. And also the implemented neural network can be built with less amounts of components compared with board system neural network.

  • The efficient hardware design of finite field multiplication is an very important research topic for and efficient $f(x)=x^n+x^k+1$ implementation of cryptosystem based on arithmetic in finite field GF($2^n$). We used special generating trinomial to construct a bit-parallel multiplier over finite field with low space complexity. To reduce processing time, The hardware architecture of proposed multiplier is similar with existing Mastrovito multiplier. The complexity of proposed multiplier is depend on the degree of intermediate term $x^k$ and the space complexity of the new multiplier is $2k^2-2k+1$ lower than existing multiplier's. The time complexity of the proposed multiplier is equal to that of existing multiplier or increased to $1T_X(10%{\sim}12.5%$) but space complexity is reduced to maximum 25%.

  • Purpose: Blood hemoglobin levels are known to influence response to radiotherapy. This retrospective analysis compared the effect of hemoglobin levels upon response to radiation among patients treated with radiation alone (by accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy) versus those treated with concurrent cisplatin chemoradiotherapy. Materials and Methods: Among patients treated for locally advanced carcinoma of the cervix (LACC) during 2009-10, a total of 60 fulfilled the eligibility criteria. In this time frame, external beam radiotherapy was delivered with either concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT, n=31) (45Gy over 25 fractions, with weekly cisplatin at 40mg/m2), or with accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy (AHRT, n=29) (20Gy over 10 daily fractions over the first two weeks, followed by 30Gy over 20 fractions over the next two weeks, with two fractions of 1.5Gy per day, without the use of chemotherapy). Mean weekly hemoglobin (MWH) levels of all patients were calculated as the arithmetic means of weekly recorded blood hemoglobin levels. As per MWH, patients in both of the AHRT or the CRT groups were classified into two subgroups-those with MWH between 10-10.9g/dL, or with MWH>11g/dL. Complete response (CR) to external beam RT phase (prior to brachytherapy) was declared after clinical examinations and computed tomography. The CR rate was noted for both MWH sub-groups within each of the AHRT and CRT groups. Results: Within the AHRT group, patients with MWH>11g/dL had a much better CR rate in comparison to those with MWH:10-10.9g/dL (80% vs. 21.1%) which was statistically significant (p 0.0045). Within the CRT group, there was no significant difference in the outcomes within the MWH>11g/dL and MWH:10-10.9g/dL sub-groups (CR rates of 80% vs. 61.9%, p=0.4285). Conclusions: The importance of maintaining a minimum hemoglobin level of 11g/dL during RT is much greater for patients treated with RT alone, than for patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Enhanced haemoglobin levels during RT may to an extent negate the ill-effects that may otherwise arise due to non-use of concurrent chemotherapy.

  • Wooded areas that are a part of school campuses are one type of urban forest. Most schools located in an urban environment make an excellent setting for a forest in terms of location and area. These kinds of wooded spaces also make the city greener and healthier. As a place where students spend a great deal of time, schools can also be a venue for environmental education. The creation of wooded areas in schools currently has focused on the end result only; by ignoring student needs and participation, these areas have not had a significant influence on student environmental education. Previous studies based on questionnaire survey are significant in that they have quantified subjective qualitative data via Likert Scale. There has been, however, a problem in quantifying the more ambiguous subjective data. Therefore, this paper has attempted to investigate those factors that have an influence on student satisfaction with the wooded areas of their school campus using Fuzzy Theory with elementary school students in Gyeongsangbuk-do. A change was observed in terms of the ranking of arithmetic mean values of 'school peculiarity' and 'emotion evolution' and center of gravity, which has adopted Fuzzy Theory, proving that Fuzzy Theory could rationally objectify qualitative data such as human thoughts. In terms of the influential factors on the satisfaction with school forests(regression coefficient), 'school uniqueness(0.159)' was the highest, followed by 'many trees(0.142),' 'importance of nature(0.136)' and 'emotion evolution(0.130).' This paper may therefore be useful as basic data for objective questionnaire surveys and the development of school forests.
