In this paper, based on the results of analysis on types and strategies of estimation in measurement in the textbooks according to 2009 revised elementary mathematics curriculum, the following four implications are suggested for curriculum development and textbook development for a later date. First, it is necessary to reconcile curriculum and textbooks in contents for estimation in measurement. In 2009 revised elementary mathematics curriculum, only estimation in length, estimation in capacity, estimation in weight, estimation in angular measure are presented. However, estimation in time and estimation in area are presented in textbooks. Second, it is necessary to introduce various strategies for estimation in measurement. In teacher's manual, three strategies like using referent, chunking, unitizing are illustrated. But in textbooks, such strategies are not illustrated properly. Third, the meaning of the 'estimate' need to be clarified. In textbooks, 'estimate' are used also in other contexts. Fourth, it is necessary to clarify whether or not to deal with estimation in time, estimation in area, and estimation in volume in the school curriculum. In 2009 revised elementary mathematics curriculum, estimation in time, estimation in area, and estimation in volume are not mentioned explicitly.

Perpendicularity and parallelity are important concepts in Mathematics as well as real-life contexts. However, those concepts are rather reduced in 2015 revised curriculum compared to previous 2009 revised curriculum. This study firstly analyzed teaching method related to perpendicularity and parallelity in a series of mathematics textbooks of Korea, Singapore and Japan. Moreover, the unit of perpendicularity and parallel was redesigned in a way to understand the concepts meaningfully and to give opportunities for students to explore how to make perpendicular and parallel lines. The results showed that noticeable changes has been as the curriculum was revised in Korea. Also, three countries showed some differences in concepts definition and learning activities. This study is expected to suggest implications for how to teach perpendicularity and parallelity in elementary school mathematics.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the multiplication units in the elementary school mathematics. In the 2015 revised curriculum, students learn multiplication in $2^{nd}$ grade. The multiplication units is divided into two: multiplication and multiplication facts. In these two units, we mainly analyze situations involving multiplication, models for teaching multiplication, and multiplication strategies for teaching multiplication facts in relation to Subject Matter Knowledge. We called these contents Multiplication Matter Knowledge. We examined the precedent study with regard to multiplication at the elementary mathematics. As results, we prepared an analysis framework for this study. This study was conducted according to qualitative research methods, expecially 'qualitative contents analysis'. The contents here refer to Multiplication Matter Knowledge that can be found in the elementary mathematics textbooks and working books etc. As results of analysis, We can confirm that various multiplication situations and multiplication models are presented in the textbooks. And it has been examined that various multiplication properties are presented in the textbook according to the multiplication strategy levels. We insist elementary school teachers should be aware of these Multiplication Matter Knowledge. This study aims to provide elementary school teachers with basic data in these contexts.
In this study, considering the OECD's DeSeCo and 2030 projects, the curriculum to develop competency was expected to be more emphasized, and the evaluation standards of the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum for elementary school in Korea and the Australian curriculum were analyzed in depth. To this end, the capabilities newly emphasized in the OECD 2030 Project were examined in detail and examined how the Australian elementary school mathematics curriculum included capabilities in achievement standards and content descriptions. The achievement standards of elementary school mathematics curriculum in Korea and Australia were matched, and the contents of number and arithmetic domain were compared and analyzed, and the skill verbs included in the achievement standards were analyzed and compared to see how their competencies were reflected in the achievement standards. Based on the results of the analysis, implications for improving math achievement standards were derived to faithfully reflect the capabilities into the mathematics curriculum.
This study is related to reinforcement of the continuity between Nuri curriculum and elementary mathematics curriculum emphasized by 2015 revised national curriculum. Considering that teachers tend to rely much more on textbooks than on curriculum, we analyzed the continuity between math-related activities of Nuri manuals for teachers and the elementary mathematics textbooks and aimed to suggest several ways for securing the continuity based on the result of analyses. To do this, we compared and analyzed Nuri manuals (for ages three to five) for teachers and the first and second grade mathematics textbooks in three aspects: mathematical contents, mathematical terms and symbols, and mathematical processes. We adopted the same analysis framework including continuity, discontinuity and reverse continuity as the study on the continuity between Nuri curriculum and elementary mathematics curriculum. As a result, the results of analyses were revealed in three aspects, respectively. We also discussed the results and suggested some implications for securing the continuity of Nuri manuals for teachers and the elementary mathematics textbooks and for revising curriculum and its materials such as textbooks, workbooks or manuals for teachers.

The purpose of this study is to reconsider of teaching mathematics problem solving in Korea's elementary school through an analysis of mathematics curricula and mathematics textbooks of the elementary school. As a result, it is found that the problem solving had been emphasized continually from the 4th curriculum to the 2009 revised curriculum. However, contents in their textbooks did not reflect the intent of the mathematics curricula properly. And amount of contents related to teaching about problem solving in the textbooks reached the peak in the 6th mathematics curriculum. Then teaching about problem solving had been weakened gradually. And it is also revealed that there had been a movement to change to teaching for problem solving in the textbooks of the 2007 and 2009 revised curricula. Teaching via problem solving had not been carried out appropriately so far.

The Korean national curriculum will be revised in 2015. Before revisions are to be made, we must discuss the direction the curriculum changes will take. In this study, we compare the contents of the current 2011 elementary school mathematics curriculum in Korea with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) in the United States. The results from this comparative analysis may be helpful in the revision of the Korean mathematical curriculum. We find that the CCSSM introduces certain mathematical concepts earlier and in greater detail than the Korean curriculum does. The CCSSM also covers a broader range of mathematical concepts. These results indicate that the Korean curriculum needs to emphasize conceptual understanding, as well as procedural skill and fluency, in the early grades. Moreover, the 'grade band' is unnecessary in the mathematics curriculum. The Korean curriculum revision process must be debated more intensely, must be made public, and must take into consideration the key points of CCSSM.
The purpose of this study is to analyze teachers' understanding of the number and operations area of grades 3 to 6 in elementary school mathematics curriculum and to derive implications for improving teachers' understanding of the mathematics curriculum. To this end, elementary school teachers were asked to develop items to evaluate curriculum achievement standards at each grade level, and then the teachers' understanding of the curriculum was examined based on the collected items. As a result of the study, there was a misinterpretation of the achievement standards in approximately 25% of the questions collected. Typically, cases where the content covered by each grade was confused when using textbooks as a standard, or cases where the difference between the content covered by the two achievement standards could not be completely distinguished were found.
In Korea where there is the national curriculum and teachers depend highly on textbooks, the school mathematics is based on curriculum and textbooks. Especially considering responsibility that textbooks should reflect the curriculum properly, it is necessary to analyze the connection of mathematics curriculum and textbooks in order to review and improve the quality of our mathematics education. This research analyzes the connection of curriculum and textbooks for 5~6 grades and aims to have some implications for revision of the textbooks when application of elementary mathematics textbooks based on the 2009 revised national curriculum is completed to all grades. Following the preceding research for 1~2 and 3~4 grades, this research sets 5~6 grades as a subject of analysis and has four contents of analysis; analysis of textbooks based on restructured achievement criteria, analysis of connections between unit objectives of textbooks and the reconstructed achievement criteria, analysis of textbooks related to mathematical terms and symbols, and analysis of textbooks related to mathematical process. The result of analysis has some implications to develop textbooks based on the 2015 revised national curriculum.
In this paper, implications for future curriculum compilation were sought by analyzing the process and results of compiling books for elementary school mathematics textbooks government published according to the 2015 revised curriculum. The 2015 revised elementary mathematics textbooks government published was operated with a systematic compilation system so that academia and school field experts across the country could demonstrate their expertise. As improvements in content, the unit and time to strengthen basic computational skills were increased, and the mathematical concept and principle introduction method and algorithm presentation method were improved, and the internal connection between contents was strengthened. The learning period was adjusted, such as moving and arranging contents that are difficult for students to understand to the upper semester or the upper grade. In the 1st and 2nd graders, the amount of reading was drastically reduced to suit the students' level of Korean, and sentences and vocabulary were improved, and instructions were briefly revised. As for editing and design improvements, illustrations of each unit's introduction and contextual pictures were presented in detail, and the characters in the textbook were consistently presented across all grades, giving children characters a role to actively participate in learning in the textbook. In the process of compiling, the media, the National Assembly, and civic groups raised opinions that sentences and vocabulary in first-year textbooks are more difficult than students' level of Hangeul education, that reducing textbooks makes it difficult for students to understand. Accordingly, efforts to improve textbook compilation and the results were viewed. Through the overall analysis as above, for future compilation of state-authored textbooks and certified textbooks, a plan to improve textbook compilation for students and teachers and a plan to operate compilation was proposed.
