This study aims to verify the effect of school library education service on the information literacy ability of high school students in the poor economic environment. For this purpose, we narrowed down to 215 high school first graders with substandard educational conditions, and then implemented information literacy education. The results of the information literacy test were compared, before and after the information literacy service. The preliminary tests of 15 schools including the targeted school were conducted, and we found that the results of the self-evaluation in those 15 schools exceed those with other generally good educational conditions. We considered in all aspects to find out how to overcome the information literacy gap through information literacy programs. Reflecting on the previous research verifying that the difference in educational environment affects the information literacy, we can confirm that the information literacy education service, which is the core service of the school library, can narrow the information literacy gap. We hope that this study will be a basis for the systematic establishment of information literacy education in public education.

In this paper, I studied on reading instruction in the school library. Reading instruction is a very important role of school library. And it is an essential element of school education. In this paper, I tried an application of constructivism for reading instruction. Information literacy instruction of school library includes reading instruction. So the pattern of information literacy instruction of school library was accepted as reading instruction pattern of school library in this paper. And then constructivism for learning principle and reading strategies as reading instruction was analyzed in this paper. Gerard J. Westhoff categorized reading strategies into 4 parts. I applied this categorization of reading strategies to the reading instruction pattern. And I analyzed and synthesized these relative constructivism elements and reading strategies for the reading instruction pattern in this paper.

The types of information literacy in school library is classified into usage instruction of school library, reading education, instructional development o4 courseware with school library and integrated instruction of collaboration with school librarian and teacher. A measure of scholastic achievement on information literacy varies in each school. The cause is rely on the absence of librarians who teach information literacy and lack of understanding on the role of school library in information literacy. Nevertheless, we know that the program based on subject teacher is successful in terms of the effectiveness of the program. It demonstrate that if information literacy will be considered as important course in the curriculum for school librarian, the effectiveness of information literacy can be enhanced dramatically. For the purpose some strategies are required. In this paper, propose three strategies, which are integration of information literacy into curriculum of schools, analysis of the curriculums and a practical method for training school librarian.

I identified constructivism's teaching-learning theory as a modern ideal method of education on this paper. And I explained how school media center relate with constructivism on educational method and educational environment. I suggested what is the points of development of school media center under the educational method of constructivism. And then by doing so I strived for contribution to the solution of problems of school education in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the literature on the effects of school libraries in US and use it as a base material for the study on effects of local school libraries. For this study, 37 documents were selected and these documents were analyzed based on the research contents and research results. And School library variables were extracted and synthesized. As a result of the study, The documents analyzed the effect of school library on various objects by various variables and analyzed teacher-librarians as the most important school library variable. And the documents indicated the teacher-librarian's role as information literacy education, reading education and collaboration with teachers for teaching. In Korea, it is necessary to study the effect of school library on students with disabilities, multicultural families and economically weak and to link school library standards with school library effect studies.

This study presents the discourse for academic generation of 'School Library Education Science' based on integrative research between library & information science and education science. The study discusses research fields and themes of 'School Library Education Science' as the base to define the roles of the school library and of teacher-librarians. It contributes to upgrading the research level of the school library. The research field in the school library analyzes and integrates both aspects of library & information science and of education science. The developed theories of 'School Library Education Science' present Library-Based Education and Library-Based Learning, Base Connectionism, Base Integrationism, Top456 Approach, Curriculum-Based Approach, Viewpoint Approach, and Education of Information and the Library as a Subject Matter. The trends in research of the school library analyze the thesis numbers of academic journals. The future research challenges of 'School Library Education Science' discuss the educational basics of the school library, operational management, electronic school libraries, and educational activities. Conclusively, this study analyzes the current situation of the school library & of teacher-librarians in Korea, and provides its solution by the aspects of 'School Library Education Science'.

This paper aims to suggest new strategies for operating school library digital resource room by analyzing the current states of 349 school library digital resource room and its educational effects. The project for school library digital resource room provided the foundations for the various informational and educational services : extended information materials, changes in library environment, collecting information through the web sites, providing authentic materials, reading instruction, library assisted instruction (LAI). The suggestions are as follows. 1) The national standards is required for the digital resources room in school libraries. 2) Reading and information literacy instruction should be institutionalized. 3) Library assisted instruction (LAI) should be included in school curriculum. 4) Professionally qualified teacher librarians are required for planning and managing the school library. 5) School library in-service program is needed for all members of the school community.

In the society of lifelong learning, a school library has to play an important educational role in improving self-directed learning ability that school education is seeking.
