An Exploratory Study on the Components and Scales of Coaching Leadership: Focusing on Academic Journals in Korea(2011~2020) (코칭 리더십의 구성요소와 척도개발을 위한 탐색적 연구: 국내 학술지(2011년~2020년)를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of previous domestic studies on the components and measures of coaching leadership. The subject of analysis is the results of a survey on 224 coaches and a total of 85 coaching leadership-related papers published in domestic academic journals from 2011 to 2020. The results were as follows. First, while Stowell's view was most cited, he did not operationally define the components of coaching leadership. Second, Cho & Tak were the first to propose a coaching leadership scale in Korea. However, they acknowledged the instability shown in some of the items they had developed. The implications are as follows. When conducting coaching leadership research in the future, it is necessary to consider the operational definition of the coaching leadership components, the study of consistency with the coaching field for the developed components, and statistical verification.

  • This study was conducted to investigate haw coaching leadership affects organizational members' career planning and attitudes; organizational commitment, job satisfaction and turnover intention. For this purpose, this study used as its subjects at the major companies and subsidiary companies in Korea. The independent variable coaching leadership composed of the 5 factors; guidance, facilitation, inspiration, listening and questioning. The result of the study, coaching leadership was shown to have a significant effect on career planning, organizational commitment, job satisfaction and turnover intention. The case of coaching leadership is being more, the level of career planning, organizational commitment and job satisfaction are increased and the level of turnover intention are decreased. The findings of this study are particularly important because they contribute the evidence that support the effects of coaching leadership development program in the company.

The Effects of Security Martial Arts Leaders' Leadership Behaviors on Role Perception and Coaching Confidence (경호무도지도자의 리더십행동이 역할 지각과 코칭 자신감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is empirically intended to look into the effects of security martial arts leader's leadership behaviors on their role perception and coaching confidence, and the mediating effects of their role perception in the relationship between their leadership behaviors and their coaching confidence. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to incumbent security martial arts leaders. The questionnaires were used for data analysis. The correlation analysis prior to a test of research hypothesis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between all potential factors(< p.01). Especially, there was a high relationship between psychological coaching confidence, human relational coaching confidence, exercise coaching, exercise prescription, and volunteer activities. The detailed results of hypothesis verification were as follows: First, hypothesis 1 showed that leadership behaviors had a significant positive effect on role perception, supporting hypothesis 1. Second, hypothesis 2 showed that role perception had a significant positive effect on coaching confidence, supporting hypothesis 2. Third, hypothesis 3 showed that leadership behaviors had a significant positive effect on coaching confidence, supporting hypothesis 3. Fourth, hypothesis 4 showed that role perception was partially mediated in the effects of leadership behaviors on coaching confidence, supporting hypothesis 4. The findings suggest that the effects of security martial arts leader's leadership behaviors on their coaching confidence can be maximized in combination with their role perception.

The Effect of Nurse's Coaching Leadership on Self-Efficacy, Job Engagement and Innovative Behavior in Hospital (간호사의 코칭리더십이 자기효능감, 직무열의 및 혁신행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the causal relationship among coaching leadership, self-efficacy, job engagement, innovative behavior and to specify the mediating effects on the relationship between coaching leadership and innovative behavior. Participants were 240 nurses with survey. SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 were used to analyze the collected data. The result of this study were as follows. First, coaching leadership had a significant effect on self-efficacy, job engagement. Second, coaching leadership had not a significant effect on innovative behavior. Third, self-efficacy had a significant effect on job engagement, innovative behavior. Fourth, job engagement had a significant effect on innovative behavior. Fifth, self-efficacy and job engagement had a mediating effect on the relationship between coaching leadership and innovative behavior. Based on these results, we discussed the rule of self-efficacy and job engagement in the relationship between coaching leadership and innovative behavior. The implication of this study was that in order to induce the active employee's innovative behavior is to improve the employee's self-efficacy and job engagement through the supervisor's coaching leadership.

  • This investigated 205 dental personnel in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do to find out the effects of Dental Hygienist(Nurse's Aide)'s coaching leadership on job satisfaction, motivational self-concept and quality of life. the entire average of coaching leadership was 2.67 On 5 point scale, development coaching 2.61, relationship coaching 2.61. "my boss fully provides me with training opportunities for my development' had the lowest 2.50. As for coaching leadership according to general characteristics, had the highest average those aged of 20-25years old, work experience of 1-5years, single, salary less than 20 million, female immediate superior, immediate superior aged 20-30years old, position of immediate superior is team head, senior dental hygienists(p<.05). The three criteria had positive correlation with coaching leadership(p<.05). Therefore, Right coaching leadership increases job satisfaction, improves motivational self-concept for increasing individual development, raises quality of life.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating effect of negative feedback-seeking behavior in the relationship between the effect of coaching leadership on performance appraisal effectiveness and coaching leadership's performance appraisal effectiveness, and the moderating effect of psychological safety in the effect of coaching leadership on negative feedback-seeking behavior. is to reveal For this purpose, data from 300 office workers in various domestic companies were collected through an online survey, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and Macro. The results of this study are as follows. First, the mediating effect of negative feedback seeking behavior was confirmed in the relationship between coaching leadership and performance appraisal effectiveness. Second, it was verified that psychological safety had a moderating effect in the relationship between coaching leadership and negative feedback-seeking behavior. Third, the moderated mediating effect was found to be insignificant. Finally, in this study, the academic significance, implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of coaching leadership on organizational effectiveness of dental hygienists. A survey was conducted on dental hygienists in Busan and Kyungnam from December 7, 2016 to January 15, 2017. A total of 215 questionnaires were included in analysis. The influence factors of coaching leadership on the rapport-building between the leaders and the members included the leader's direction (p<0.001) and relationship (p<0.001). The influence factors of coaching leadership on organizational commitment included the leader's relationship (p<0.001), direction (p<0.05), development (p<0.05), and accountability (p<0.05). The influence factors of coaching leadership on job satisfaction included the leader's relationship (p<0.001) and development (p<0.01). The coaching leadership of dental hygienists has been found to make a positive influence on the organizational effectiveness. It is believed that systematic and comprehensive coaching leadership training for dental hygienists must be conducted to build up trust between the leaders and the members, facilitate communication, and enhance job commitment and performance.   • While managerial coaching has increased popularly as an effective leadership initiative in organization, the relationship between managerial coaching and its effects on performance has not been scholarly well defined. This study examined the role of managerial coaching as a moderator between job characteristics and job performance. Based on the sample of 453 employees in a financial firm, HLM was conducted to test the research model at multiple levels of organizational hierarchies. First, we found that managerial coaching has a direct impact on employee performance. Second, the strength of the relationship between job meaningfulness and job performance is positively related to the level of managerial coaching. Third, managerial coaching positively moderates the association between autonomy and job performance. However, any cross-level moderating effects of managerial coaching on the relationship between feedback and job performance is not observed. These results show that managerial coaching by managers could promote employees' performance through maximizing the impact of job characteristics on employees' motivation.

  • The importance of coaching leadership has been highlighted to enhance creativity and competence of human resources in convergence environment. This paper was validated through a structural relationships model, the impact of coaching leadership on behavioral dimensions of organizational effectiveness by focusing on mediating role of job characteristics. Coaching leadership activities showed a significant positive effect on job characteristics and turnover intentions. Job characteristics appear to have a mediating effect on the relationship between coaching leadership and organizational effectiveness, especially the coaching leadership itself not necessarily to improve organizational citizenship behavior, can increase organizational citizenship behavior when formed into a positive awareness of the job characteristics of organizational members.

  • This study examines the effect of coaching leadership on resilience, interpersonal competence, and job performance, and identifies whether resilience and interpersonal competence mediate the relationship between coaching leadership and job performance. For this purpose, the data were collected for 240 nurses at U University Hospital in Ulsan City. SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 were used to analyze the statistical data and the validity of the this study. The results of this study showed as follows. First, coaching leadership has significantly affected resilience, interpersonal competence and job performance. Second, resilience has significantly affected interpersonal competence and job performance. Third, interpersonal competence have significantly affected job performance. Fourth, resilience and interpersonal competence had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between coaching leadership and job performance. Based on this study, we discussed the important rule of coaching leadership, resilience, interpersonal competence to improve job performance.
