With the importance for teachers of understanding students' strategies and providing appropriate feedback to their students, the purpose of this study is to analyze how prospective elementary teachers interpret and respond students' strategies for fraction tasks with number lines. The findings from analysis of 64 prospective teachers' responses were as follow. First, the prospective teachers in general could identify the students' understanding and errors based on their strategies, however, some prospective teachers overgeneralized students' mathematical thinking at a superficial level. Second, the prospective teachers could pose diverse tasks or activities for revising the students' errors, while some prospective teachers tried to correct students' errors by using only the area models. Based on these results, this study suggests for prospective teachers to have opportunities to understand elementary students' diverse problem strategies and to consider teaching methods with different fraction models.

Second, the mathematics test-preparation strategies scale for elementary school students comprised of three factors and 23 items, and the mathematics test-taking strategies scale three factors and 24 items. The scales could be used to assess elementary students' mathematics test-preparation and test-taking strategies and to further develop programs for enhancing strategies use.
The purpose of this study was to improve the reflective thinking education so far and to improve the reflective thinking, academic achievement and scientific attitude of elementary school students. Two sixth grade classes were divided into two groups. Experimental group(13 boys, 11 girls) was treated with elementary science class using Reflective Thinking promotion strategies using Thinking maps and comparison group(14 boys, 10 girls) was treated with traditional way. The results of this study were as follows: First, reflective thinking strategy program using thinking maps has positively influenced the reflective thinking of elementary school students. Second, reflective thinking strategy program using thinking maps did not significantly affect elementary school students' academic achievement. Third, reflective thinking strategy program using thinking maps positively influenced elementary school students' scientific attitudes. Fourth, elementary school students' satisfaction with reflective thinking strategy programs using thinking maps was generally high. Most of students felt that this program was useful to learn, and to be interest in science. Based on these results, reflective thinking promotion strategies using thinking maps may be effective for reflective thinking and scientific attitudes of elementary school students.
The purpose of this study is to extract the factors that compose the image of science teacher desired by elementary school students in inquiry-based instruction and analyze the structural associations between them. Factors that compose the image of science teacher desired by elementary school students in inquiry-based instruction were extracted through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Based on the findings of EFA, the questionnaire has been further analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). In addition, based on the factor structure identified through factor analysis, we comprehensively analyzed the image of science teacher desired by elementary school students in inquiry-based instruction. As a result of EFA, five factors were identified which compose the image of science teacher desired by elementary school students in inquiry-based instruction: namely, teaching strategy, assessment strategy, prior guidance, understanding students, learning development. The CFA results showed a relatively strong correlation between teaching strategy and learning development, teaching strategy and understanding students. As a result of a comprehensive review of students' perception of the image of science teachers in inquiry-based instruction based on the extracted factor structure, students perceived that it is important for science teachers to run inquiry-based instruction by reflecting their understanding of students. Students also perceived importantly that science teachers run inquiry-based instruction using effective teaching strategies and proper evaluation strategies.
The purpose of this study was to analyze successful intelligence and learning strategies for the scientific gifted and the general students in elementary school. For this purpose, we conducted a survey targeting 327(including 159 gifted students) 5th - 6th grader elementary students in Incheon Metropolitan City. We were utilized to evaluate the students' successful intelligence(Song, 2002) and learning strategies(Kim, 2005). The results of this study were as follows. First, successful intelligence and learning strategies of the scientific gifted students in elementary school were higher than the regular class students, it was a significant difference statistically(p < .001). Second, when compared according to grade level, the scientific gifted students class higher than the general class students, it was a significant difference statistically(p < .001). Third, when compared according to gender, the scientific gifted students were higher than the general class in both men and women, it was a significant difference statistically(p < .001)
The purpose of this study was to analyze the problem solving strategies of ordinary students, gifted students, pre-service teachers, and in-service teachers with the 'chicken and pig problem,' which has multiple strategies to obtain the solution. For this study, 98 students in the 6th grade elementary schools, 96 gifted students in a gifted institution, 72 pre-service teachers, and 60 in-service teachers were selected. The researcher presented the "chicken and pig" problem and requested them the solution strategies as many as possible for 30 minutes in a free atmosphere. As a result of the study, the gifted students used relatively various and efficient strategies compared to the ordinary students, and there was a difference in the most used strategies among the groups. In addition, the percentage of respondents who suggested four or more strategies was 1% for the ordinary students, 54% for the gifted students, 42% for the pre-service teachers, and 43% for the in-service teachers. As suggestions, the researcher asserted that various kinds of high-quality mathematical problems and solving experiences should be provided to students and teachers and have students develop multi-strategy problems. As a follow-up study, the researcher suggested that multi-strategy mathematical problems should be applied to classroom teaching in a collaborative learning environment and reflected them in teacher training program.

The purposes of this study were to investigate 6th-graders' use of cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies in usual learning and testing situations, and to compare the difference in the use of the strategies by students' science achievement, learning motivation, and gender. The relationship among these strategies, science achievement, and learning motivation were also examined, and the portion of variance of explanation for achievement score was studied by a multiple regression analysis. The results showed that high-achieving students used more cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies in usual learning and more cognitive strategies in testing situations than low-achieving students. Highly motivated students used more cognitive and metacognitive strategies than poorly motivated students in all situations. Elementary female students used more learning strategies than male students in usual learning. On the other hand, no gender differences was found to be significant in the use of strategies in testing situations. These learning strategies were significantly correlated with the science achievement and motivation scores. The cognitive strategies in usual learning accounted for the significant portion of the variance of the achievement score. Educational implications are discussed.
