  • In this paper, we investigated the mathematical output of a gifted student's independent study. We chose one student who was taking a mentorship course in mathematics at the Gifted Education Center in Chonnam National University, and analyzed the characters of the result which a student showed through the output of independent study and studied the psychological change of a student while he was making a presentation of the results of his study. We found following facts. First, a mentor-independent study improves a mathematical gifted student's inductive thinking and ability to generalize and apply to other cases. Second, presenting a mathematical gifted student's output for mentor-independent study improves his ability of mathematical communication in the abilities of creative problem solving. Finally, there is an increased change in his perception and self-efficacy of mathematics after the presentation.

  • The object of this research is to understand the domain-universality and domain-specificity of scientific domain and visual art domain from case studies on individuals who had made creative accomplishments in the domain of science and visual art. For case studies, 10 people who made creative accomplishments in the science and technology domain and 9 people who made creative accomplishments in the visual art domain were selected as the research participants. The conclusions for the case studies were made on the data obtained from interviewing the research participants using KES as an analytical frame. The findings of this study support as follows. Creativity on scientific domain and visual art domain is both the domain-universality and domain-Specificity. The domain-universality Of scientific domain and visual art domain is related to the nature of human beings, originality in creativity, and the natural selection. On the other hand, The domain-specificity of scientific domain and visual art domain is related to the type of knowledge and the context of applying the knowledge, will, thinking skill, direction, and social components.

  • In this study, we examined the characteristics of analogies generated by science-gifted students depending on the consideration of attributes and relationships in the processes of generating analogies and investigated the applicability of analogy-generating activities in science-gifted education programs. The analyses of the results revealed that the analogy-generating processes of science-gifted students were categorized into three kinds of patterns depending on the consideration of attributes and relationships of the target concept and the source analog. There are also some differences in the types of analogies generated and selected to be good, and in the proper mapping numbers by the patterns depending on the consideration of attributes and relationships. Most science-gifted students used the analogy-generating activities to other target concept, and recognized them to be useful. However, they had difficulties in selecting source analogs at the processes of generating analogy. These obtained in this study will help to explore a potential use of the analogy-generating activities in an effective education program for fostering the creativity of science-gifted students.

  • This paper aims at shaping remote observatory system environment for schools, developing astronomical observation program using that system and applying it to science-gifted elementary students in order to figure out effects on their scientific investigation ability and attitude. in order to figure out effects of astronomical observation program using remote observatory program on scientific investigation ability and attitude of science-gifted elementary students, test was conducted on gifted students class of 5th grade in A Elementary School(15) and those of 5th grade in B Elementary School(20). The summary of this paper's results are as follows. First, in order to compose remote observatory system, an astronomical telescope available for remote control to transfer actual observed images in real-time was manufactured. Second, learning program for using remote observatory system wad developed by selecting contents through analysis of the curriculum. Third, in order to figure out effects of astronomical observation program using remote observatory program on scientific investigation ability and attitude of science-gifted elementary students. As a result, both of basic investigation ability and integrated investigation abilit, sub-elements of scientific investigation ability, showed significant differences and scientific investigation ability combining basic and integrated investigation abilities showed significant differences as well. Effects of astronomical observation program applying remote observatory also showed significant differences and its sub-elements, openness, collaboration, patience and creativeness did not show significant differences while curiosity, critics and volunteering showed significant differences.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation model of gifted curriculum in visual art. For this purpose, first, it discusses about what kinds of issues raised about gifted education in visual art. Second, it critically reviews the evaluation models of gifted curriculum, and investigates the suitable model for developing curriculum evaluation model of gifted in visual art. Third, it suggests the appropriate perspective and evaluation model of gifted curriculum in visual art. Along with the change in the concept of creativity, recent studies on gifted education in visual art concentrate that gifted learners who have the potential find their own way of creating art. Also they emphasize the contextual implementation which recognizes the significance of interaction among field, domain and individual. Based of these inquiry, existing evaluation models of gifted curriculum have limitations in suitability as a evaluation model of gifted curriculum in visual art. This study suggests that the curriculum evaluation of visual art gifted programs should be approached from the decision-making perspective. Also it develops the conceptual framework and the evaluation model of gifted curriculum in visual art based on the CIPP model, which is the representative model of decision-making approach. It concludes with its implications and the discussion about the role of evaluators.

  • This study is to suggest the alternative to limits of intelligence focused on Psychometric tests. Through this study, it was found that triarchic theory of intelligence and thinking styles, which were suggested by Sternberg, were useful. The subjects are 122 student who are at three science-high-schools. The results show that the subjects preferred judicial, executive, and hierarchical rather than conservative styles of thinking, and they had strong analytical, creative, and practical ability. The correlation between academic achievement and triarchic intelligence except automation was significant. The difference of academic achievements was not significant by styles of thinking related to creativity and pattern of triarchic intelligence. There was no interaction between two variables as we expected. The practical ability illustrated the total academic performance very well. And executive, judicial thinking styles were prediction variable in case of considering with triarchic intelligence. Through the results, it could be suggested that triarchic intelligence and thinking styles of non cognitive concept could be important standard referred to selection for the science-gifted, and argued that the reform of the science-high-school was needed to produce the creative-productive science-gifted student.

  • In this study, we developed analogical experimental activities to foster scientific creativity in inquiry learning and applied them to 7th grade science-gifted students. The influences of inquiry learning-based analogical experiments were investigated with respect to the experimental design processes. We classified the patterns of experimental design processes by creative thinking processes and analyzed performance levels by the elements of experimental design processes. The students' experimental design processes were categorized into three kinds of patterns such as reinitiated motion, backward-divergent motion and stationary motion. Those belonging to the reinitiated motion performed precise experimental design from new perspectives by identifying the mapping in depth and considering the elements of experimental design processes. In the case of the backward-divergent motion, they shifted their positions to new directions, but the concreteness of experimental design was insufficient due to the lack of mapping or considering the elements. In the type of stationary motion, maintaining their previous positions, they showed less performance of experimental design without considering the elements sufficiently. Educational implication of these findings are discussed.

  • This paper is about a case study of two brother talents who have a similar genetic factor The researcher who worked as a teacher of the Institute of Talent Education where the two brothers attended for 3 years analyzed and compared the influential variables through the interview of both the students and their parents. Parents have invested to the elder brother showing geniuses so they disciplined him suppressively out of too much expectation. However, they allowed his brother, who showed talents later, more automaticity, supporting him when he himself wanted to study. As a result, the younger brother showed a more creative thinking ability, and a better school performance This paper is significant in that parents's positive disciplining attitude maximize children's genius.
