A Phenomenological Study on Developmental Rehabilitation Service Providers' Group Art Therapy Experiences (발달재활서비스 제공 치료사의 집단미술치료 경험에 대한 현상학적 연구)

  • This study aimed to clarify the meanings of developmental rehabilitation service providers' experiences of participation in a group art therapy. The 5 participants in this study were composed of cognitive, language and art therapists working at children developmental rehabilitation center in G city. The group art therapy was provided to participants from October to December, 2018. And the data were collected using in-depth interviews from January to February, 2019. Collected data was analyzed using the phenomenological method by Colaizzi(1978). As a result, four categories were derived: "Purification of emotions", "New discovery", "Encouragement and comfort", and "Close relationship". In conclusion, therapists participating in a group art therapy experienced purification of emotions and newly discovered about themselves and colleagues. And through encouraging and comforting in the group, they became closer. These results may serve as basic data on using art therapy for giving psychological support to therapists who provide developmental rehabilitation service.

  • This study is to consider that group art therapy is necessary for the psychological adaptation that children of multicultural families need in the growth process, and discusses the effects of group art therapy. The research results are as follows. First, children from multicultural families were able to express themselves gradually through art work experiences and interactions with researchers, and experienced the objectification, acceptance and resolution of their emotions, thoughts and inner desires through artistic expression. Second, children from multicultural families were newly aware of themselves in an unstructured group art therapy environment that promoted active self-expression, spontaneity, and emotional expression, and gradually experienced an active attitude, that is, recovery of spontaneity. Third, children of multicultural families were able to develop positive self-concept in the process of group art therapy experience. In conclusion, by applying the group art therapy program, children who are experiencing difficulties in the psychological adaptation of children of multicultural families through the unique unique aspects of art therapy can provide a place where they can talk with each other in ways that language alone could not. have.

  • This study analyzed the the effect of group art therapy on sociality of children in institutional care focus on anger and empathy. The study divided children into two groups, experimental group was treated group art therapy for twice a week(60 minutes, total 25) and control group was treated none. The study results showed that group art therapy had positive impact on improving sociality, anger conrol and emphatic ability of children in institutional care. Also, there had been positive change in their work in the aspect of form and content by HTP, KSD, DAS test. This study found that group art therapy helped improving institutionalized children's socility with anger control and empathic ability, so it is suggested that group art therapy studies for institutionalized children are of help to improve their sociality.

The Effects of Group Art Therapy on Depression and Job satisfaction of Local Government Officials (집단미술치료가 일 지방 공무원의 우울과 직무만족에 미치는 효과)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of group art therapy on the depression and job satisfaction of local government officials. The study was conducted from March 2017 to March 2018 and the participants of this study were twenty public officials in North Chung-Chung Province. They randomly placed in two different group : 10 in experimental group, 10 in control group. To measure the effects of group art therapy, K-BDI and Job Satisfaction Scale were used a week before and a week after the intervention of group art therapy program. Data was analyzed using paired t-test with SPSS Statistics 23.0. The result was as follows : First, there was significant change to alleviate Depression. Second, there was significant change to increase job satisfaction. This study provides empirical evidence of effectiveness of group art therapy. The findings in this study are not only helping public officials' individual mental health but also enhancing productivity of local government and the quality of service to local residents in Chung-Chung province area.

The Effects of Mindfulness Based Art Therapy on Clinical Nurses' Job Stress, Self-Efficacy, Satisfaction with Life, and Life Satisfaction Expectancy (임상간호사의 직무스트레스, 자기효능감, 삶의 만족도 및 삶의 만족 예상에 대한 마음챙김기반 미술치료의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the mindfulness based art therapy on clinical nurses' job stress, self-efficacy, satisfaction with life, and life satisfaction expectancy. 26 clinical nurses were selected and 13 were randomly assigned to an experimental group and the other 13 were to a control one. The art therapy was conducted to the experimental group for about 90 minutes a session every week, for a total of 12 sessions. Both groups were measured with pre- and post-tests of job stress, mindfulness, self-efficacy, satisfaction with life, and life satisfaction expectation scales. The results demonstrated that the experimental group were lower in job stress, and higher in mindfulness, self-efficacy, satisfaction with life, and life satisfaction expectation than the control one significantly. Moreover, the experimental group showed that significant positive changes in every post measure. In sum, the effects of the mindfulness based art therapy on the clinical nurses' job stress, mindfulness, self-efficacy, satisfaction with life, and life satisfaction expectancy were proved. Lastly, some limitations of the study were discussed.

The Effect of Using Zentangle Art Therapy on Improving the Attention Span of People with Developmental Disabilities in Lifelong Education Center (젠탱글 활용 미술치료가 평생교육센터 이용 발달장애인의 주의집중력에 미치는 효과)

  • The objective of this study was to look into the effect of using Zentangle art therapy on improving the attention span of people with developmental disabilities in Lifelong Education Center. The 29 people with developmental disabilities in Lifelong Education Center of D-University in K-city were the subjects to reach the primary goal of this study. Nine of the subjects were assigned to the experimental group of the Zentangle art therapy, ten to the control group. As for the study tools, 3.5x3.5 inch paper card, various colors of Deco Markers, and Zentangle cards for the experimental group. The FAIR and MindWaveMobile (MWM) were used to measure the effectiveness. The twelve 30-minute sessions of the program, held from October to December in 2018, has shown the result that the attention span improved on the experimental group using the Zentangle art therapy.

A Study on the Effects of Strengths Perspective Group Art Therapy on Stress, Depression, and Impulsivity of Middle School Male Smoking (강점 관점 집단미술치료가 흡연 남자 중학생의 스트레스, 우울 및 충동성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of strengths perspective group art therapy on the strength-related perspectives on the stress, depression and impulsivity of male middle school students who smoke. Data were collected from 15 middle school smokers from two middle schools in A city. Among them, 8 experimental groups and 7 other control groups were willing to participate in art therapy. The collected data were analyzed by nonparametric test considering the number of groups was 15. The Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon signed ranks test were performed. As a result, the strength-focused group art therapy program showed stress (z = -2.521, p <.05), depression (z = -2.527, p <.05), impulse (z = -2.371, p < .05). Therefore, it can be found that strengths perspective group art therapy has a positive effect on the psychological well-being of smoking middle school students, and furthermore, it is necessary to study the deep emotional state of smoking middle school students.

  • This study analyzed effect of the group art therapy with recall on the quality of life and emotion of the elderly with mild dementia in day care center. The study objects were the elderly from 75 to 96 years old and MMSE-K grade were 15-23 points with mild dementia in Jeollabuk-do day care center. The experimental group was treated group art therapy for 6 months, once a week, 60 minutes, total 30 times and the control group was treated none at the same duration. The study results had implications that group art therapy using recall method helped the elderly with mild dementia in day care center by actively embracing their life and expressing more stable emotion to get along their life.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of applying a group art therapy program on self-esteem and stress for adolescents who are maladjusted to school. The subjects of this study were 6 school maladjusted adolescents enrolled in the second year of B middle school in A region, and the period was from May 12 to June 9, 2021, twice a week, for a total of 10 sessions of 60 minutes each. As a research tool, the Self-Esteem Scale(SEI) and the Person-In-The-Rain(PITR) were examined to observe the students. For data analysis, Wilcoxon test was conducted to examine the change in self-esteem, and the Person-In-The-Rain(PITR) was qualitatively analyzed to observe stress by two art therapists. The results of this study were first, that the group art therapy program had a significant effect on improving the self-esteem of adolescents and second, the group art therapy program was effective in reducing the stress. In conclusion, group art therapy can be seen to help improve self-esteem and reduce stress in school maladjusted adolescents.

The Art Therapy in Groups' on the work Stresses and Emotional Burnouts of Social Workers for Diabled Facility (집단미술치료가 성인지적장애인 이용시설 사회복지사의 직무스트레스와 심리적소진에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to see the effect of the art therapy in group on the work stresses and emotional burnouts of social workers for diabled facility. The subjects are the 8 members of social workers at the facility for disabled located in city A. From Feb 16, 2016 to May 31, 2016, 70 minutes per session, overall 13 therapies were given. To see the therapeutic effects, there were test of stress and burnout before, afterwards and 4 weeks later. To find out the similarities in group, Mann Whitney U test was done, and Wilcoxon's signed ranks test was done to see the difference afterwards. As a result, art therapy in group was effective on the work stress and burnout of social workers in daisabled facility and the positive effect lasted. This results suggests a developed ways to reduce work stress and emotional burnout of social workers for disabled facility.
