A Study on Comparison between Korea Green Building Certification Criteria and LEED by School Cases (미국의 LEED와 한국의 친환경건축물 인증기준의 비교 연구 -학교시설 사례분석을 통한-)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of items and to obtain basic information for spread of Korea Green Building Certification Criteria(KGBCC) by comparing items and school cases of KGBCC with those of LEED 2.1. LEED 2.1 is concentrating on 'Energy' and 'Indoor Air Quality' and KGBCC is relatively showing even distribution. And LEED 2.1 is not evaluate 'Ecology' that is important to us. And school cases of KGBCC and LEED 2.1 obtained similar scores by field or those of KGBCC obtained more scores. Domestic buildings need to ontain certification by KGBCC considering domestic situation. Also we need to lead activating of KGBCC through incentive programs.

  • In this study, two controversial Child Care Policies will be discussed based on the perspective of Economics: Accreditation of Child Care Centers and Liberation of Child Care Service Tuition. Liberation of Child Care Service Tuition is to provide parents and children with exact quality which they want at a differentiated price. Accreditation of Child Care Center is to enhance the quality of child care service by evaluating the quality of centers and grading centers into three classes. This study concludes that success or failure of the policies mostly depend on the investment capability of the government to increase the supply of child care centers. Employing these two policies requires the child care rate more than certain level and more financial investment from the government since the responsibility of providing child care services relies mostly on the government in Korea.

  • Biotope area rate and ecological environment planning for school campuses are closely related, and we can say that ecological environment of a school that has high biotope area rate is of high ecological value. Taking that into account, in this paper, we are going to have a look at the relationship between the elements of ecological environment plan for environment-friendly schools and the biotope area rate, and we are going to come up with a method how we can increase ecological value of ecological environment and biotope area rate in a school campus through analyzing the actual biotope area rate of certified environmental-friendly schools.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the assessment category, items, a detail standard for environmentally friendly evaluation on the school. and to analyze the plan to improve the level of certification criteria on the School's water resource and environmental pollution. The results of this study brings on promoted environmentally friendly appreciation, resource con servation, reduction of contaminant, accordance in and around building, etc. For this purpose, analysis of domestic and foreign environmental friendly architectural citation screening system-BREEAM (1991), LEED 2.0(2001) etc.-was preceded, and through interview, survey and forum with professional group, developed evaluation item was verified and reappraised. Developed evaluation item were composed of 40 schools about water resource and environmental pollution.

  • With the increase in the demand for sustainable and environmentally-friendly development, Green Building Certification System came into force in 2002, Evaluation parts of Green Building Certification System are divided into land use and transportation, energy, ecological environment, and indoor environment. Alloted point for the part of energy is larger than other part, thus we can say that this part is very important to increase the green building performance. This study aims to analyze the present condition of design and construction for the part of energy in the certificated green school building. Total 40 certificated school buildings were selected and average scoring rate of each item was evaluated. Key particular to be considered were suggested to improve the item of energy consumption.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of School Green Building Certification System by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. Especially, we focused on school use classification. Use classification of Green Building Certification System must be based on Building Codes and reflect the nature of building use and size. Schools are divided into three groups ; preschool, school(elementary, junior high school, high school), university and ect. Also they must be set up assessment method reflecting the nature of school use and size.

  • To promote environmentally responsible architectural practice, many nations have established their own Green Building Certification system. Until 2007, 138 Education facilities acquired certification but many people don't fully understand each item of Green building Certification Criteria yet. The purpose of this study is to analyze 40 certified Education facilities and to find the reasons why they had acquired low scores and high scores. These scores lead us to propose a way that each contents the efficient approaches and alternative visions of Education facilities. Because the part of material and resource is initial of the projects, this study focuses on it and aims to pick out the items requiring improvement for the Education facilities. We expect to be helpful for the next design works through result of this thorough study.

  • With the global climate changes, a global concerns on building energy uses and $CO_2$ emission to improve the environment friendly has been increasingly growing. To achieve this global goal, the Korea government has been seeking an environment-friendly and sustainable development. As the results, the government started Green Building Certification Criteria system. however the certificate system has still been at the basic stage. To upgrade and advance it's level, it's necessary to identify the current status. This study aims to pick out the items requiring improvement for the Ecology of Education Facilities. We expect that the results of this study will be helpful for the next design works of certificate system.

As a result of analyzing the scores of 40 cases, We found the reasons why they had acquired low scores and high scores.   • This study aims to suggest a direction to develop Korea's certification system by comparing the evaluation items between Korea's G-SEED (Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design) and Germany's sustainable building certification. A number of eco-friendly building certification systems are being implemented globally. On the other hand, mutually comparable evaluation items have not been suggested up until now. Therefore, international standards have been trying to establish evaluation criteria for eco-friendly buildings, and Germany's sustainable building certification is the first certification standard that has accepted those evaluation criteria. According to the result of comparing Korea's green building certification with Germany's sustainable certification, the green building certification has evaluation items not only on environmentality (62.6%), but also on social aspects (25.4%) and economic aspects (3.0%). This suggests a crucial direction to the development of evaluation items regarding the social and economic aspects of green building certification.
