  • Purpose: This study examined the influencing factors from the Transtheoretical Model on the stage of change in the self-management behaviors, i.e. regular physical activity and diet, among community-residing adults with hypertension in a rural area. Methods: With a cross-sectional descriptive design, 134 adults who had registered and received a prescription for hypertension medication from a public health center in W city were recruited using convenient sampling. The instrument was an interviewer-administered questionnaire on the stage of change, process of change, self-efficacy, and decisional balance of physical activity and diet. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, 2-sample t-test, ${\chi}^2$ test, and logistic regression. Results: The results revealed significant differences in the process of change, self-efficacy, and decisional balance of physical activity and diet between those who were in the pre-execution stage (precontemplation, contemplation, preparation) and those who were in the execution stage (action and maintenance). Logistic regression showed that consciousness raising and self-efficacy were significant predictors of the execution stage in physical activity, and self-reevaluation, social liberation and self-efficacy were significant predictors in the diet. Conclusion: The relevant processes of change, differentiated according to the stage of change, along with self-efficacy, should be addressed to enhance the execution of self-management behaviors among hypertensive adults residing in the community.

A self-reported questionnaire was completed by each 140 dental practitioners in dental clinics, general and university dental hospitals. The data were analyzed statistically with t-test, 1-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient test(${\alpha}=.05$). The hand washing practice showed a quantitative linear relationship(p<0.01) of r=0.285 with the hand washing on health belief. In order to prevent hospital infection of dental practitioners working in dental clinics or general and university dental hospitals, health beliefs about hand washing consisting of perceived susceptibility, perceived seriousness, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, and cues to action in infection control education should be considered.

  • A model of STS (Science-Technology-Society) creativity education program for the gifted and talented children has been developed, based on GENEPLORE thinking process and Knowledge development theory. The GENEPLORE creative thinking process, developed by Finke et al. (1990, 1992), has two phases such as generative phase and exploratory phase. And The knowledge development theories of Piaget (1977) and Gallagher(1981) assume that knowledge-bases are developed on the basis of empirical as well as reflective abstraction, which could imply that knowledge-bases are crucial in creative thinking process. The creativity education model for the gifted and talented of the present study attempted to integrate 'the individual, creative thinking process, and social/scientific technology' by employing topics of the science-technology-society such as computer, network, biotech, robot, e-business, e-education, e-health, nanotech and entertainment and the structure and contents of the program are proposed
