  • This study aims to analyze statistical tasks in Korean and Singaporean textbooks with the mathematical modeling perspective and compare the learning contents and experiences of students from both countries. I analyzed mathematical modeling tasks in the textbooks based on five aspects: (1) the mathematical modeling process, (2) the data type, (3) the expression type, (4) the context, and (5) the mathematical activity. The results of this study show that Korean and Singaporean textbooks provide the highest percentage of the "working-with-mathematics" task, the highest percentage of the "matching task," and the highest percentage of the "picture" task. The real-world context and mathematical activities used in Korean and Singaporean textbooks differed in percentage. This study provides implications for the development of textbook tasks to support future mathematical modeling activities. This includes providing a balanced experience in mathematical modeling processes and presenting tasks in various forms of expression to raise students' cognitive level and expand the opportunity to experience meaningful mathematizing. In addition, it is necessary to present a contextually realistic task for students' interest in mathematical modeling activities or motivation for learning.

  • In order to utilize Sphinx Puzzle in shape education or deductive reasoning, a lesson employing Dienes' six-stage theory of learning mathematics was structured to be applied to students of 6th grade of elementary school. 4 students of 6th grade of elementary school, the researcher's current workplace, were selected as subjects. The academic achievement level of 4 subjects range across top to medium, who are generally enthusiastic and hardworking in learning activities. During the 3 lessons, the researcher played role as the guide and observer, recorded observation, collected activity sheet written by subjects, presentation materials, essays on the experience, interview data, and analyzed them to the detail. A task of finding every possible triangle out of pieces of Sphinx Puzzle was given, and until 6 steps of formalization was set, students' attitude to find a better way of mathematical deduction, especially that of operational thinking and deductive thinking, was carefully observed and analyzed.

  • The conceptions of definition and proof radically change in the transition from secondary to tertiary mathematics. Specifically this paper analyses the historical development of the axiomatic method from Greek to modern mathematics. To understand Greek and modern axiomatic method, it is important to know the different characteristics of the primitive terms, constant and variable. Especially this matter of primitive terms explains the change of conceptions of definition, proof and mathematics. This historical analysis is useful for introducing the meaning of formal definition and proof.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of mathematics instruction using children's literature on students' mathematical communication and attitude. To conduct this research, a total of 59 6th grade students were selected from an elementary school in Seoul, and three different types of teaching methods using children's literature were applied to the treatment group, while a traditional teaching method was adopted to the comparison group. Children's literature was used in the actual classroom environment for about 20 minutes in the course of 10 weeks treatment, and the results were analyzed to find the effects of using children's literature during mathematics teaching on students' mathematical communication skills and attitudes toward mathematics. The results of the present study were as follows: First, with respect to mathematical communication aspects, the treatment group achieved significantly higher mathematical communication skills than that of the comparison group. That is to say, this result shows that students learning mathematics using children's literature seem to have more mathematical communication abilities than students in the textbook-based mathematics learning group. Secondly, the results of this study point out that students in the treatment group have more positive attitude toward mathematics as a result of learning that the other group of students focused on textbook-based mathematics learning. In conclusion, the current study demonstrates that mathematics teaching using children's literature made more significant impact on students' mathematical communication ability and attitudes toward mathematics than the comparative method focused on a traditional textbook-based mathematics teaching method.

  • The purpose of this study is to lay the groundwork for effectively supporting mathematics learning for multi-cultural students by enhancing understanding of the cultural background regarding mathematics. In order to attain these purposes, this study compared to learning contents, deployment of contents, teaching method of the Korean and Vietnamese elementary mathematics textbooks. According to analysis, Vietnamese textbooks emphasize mathematical rigor and logic over Korean textbooks, and it integrate learning contents from various areas according to mathematical relevance. But Vietnamese textbooks do not present the connection between mathematical content, such as the combination, symmetry, and coverage of shapes. While Korean textbooks use teaching method that students find and define the concept of shapes themselves, Vietnamese textbooks present concepts of shapes and let students to learn about them. From this result, this study presented suggestions for supporting mathematics learning for multi-cultural students.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the effects of musical stimuli on humans in performing mathematical tasks through EEG measurements. The musical stimuli were divided into preferred music and non-preferred music, and mathematical tasks were divided into memorization task and procedure task. The data measured in the EEG experiments was divided into frequency bands of Theta, SMR, and Mid-beta because of the concentration. In our results, preferred music causes more positive emotional response than no music and non-preferred music regardless of the type of mathematical task.

  • The era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has also influenced the direction of mathematics education. In particular, the convergence capability that recognizes how mathematics can be applied and utilized in various fields is an important point. The purpose of this study is to examine the point of convergence and to develop a fusion program that can be used in the mathematics classroom. Specifically, we analyze the tiles used in ancient Islamic architecture from a mathematical point of view and develop mathematics and multifamily convergence programs based on them. Through the mathematical analysis of the geometric tiling made 500 years earlier than Penrose, I hope that understanding of design, the use of mathematics and the possibility of convergence of other disciplines through mathematics will be widened.

  • WRR scheme was developed for scheduling scheme for guaranteeing bandwidth requirement. In these days, WRR scheme can handle multiple queues straightforwardly by putting a different weight on each queue in order to offer differentiated services such as different bandwidth or delay bound in wireless communication network. Also, WRR algorithm can be implemented efficiently by dynamic binary scheduling wheel(DBSW) architecture. This paper performs the mathematical analysis of the DBSW architecture and compares the results with simulation results. The analysis data and simulation data show that the mathematical analysis developed properly.

  • In this study, an operational analysis in the context of linear equations is presented. For the analysis, several second-order models concerning students' whole number knowledge and fraction knowledge based on teaching experiment methodology were employed, in addition to our first-order analysis. This ontogenetic analysis begins with students' Explicitly Nested number Sequence (ENS) and proceeds on through various forms of linear equations. This study shows that even in the same representational forms of linear equations, the mathematical knowledge necessary for solving those equations might be different based on the type of coefficients and constants the equation consists of. Therefore, the pedagogical implications are that teachers should be able to differentiate between different types of linear equation problems and propose them appropriately to students by matching the required mathematical knowledge to the students' potential constructs.
