Design of Low Power 4th order ΣΔ Modulator with Single Reconfigurable Amplifier (재구성가능 연산증폭기를 사용한 저전력 4차 델타-시그마 변조기 설계)

  • In this paper, a low power 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with a high resolution of 12 bits or more for the biological signal processing. Using time-interleaving technique, 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with one operational amplifier. So power consumption can be reduced to 1/4 than a conventional structure. To operate stably in the big difference between the two capacitor for kT/C noise and chip size, the variable-stage amplifier was designed. In the first phase and second phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 2-stage. In the third and fourth phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 1-stage. This was significantly improved the stability of the modulator because the phase margin exists within 60~90deg. The proposed delta-sigma modulator is designed in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS n-well 1 poly 6 Metal technology and dissipates the power of $354{\mu}W$ with supply voltage of 1.8V. The ENOB of 11.8bit and SNDR of 72.8dB at 250Hz input frequency and 256kHz sampling frequency. From measurement results FOM1 is calculated to 49.6pJ/step and FOM2 is calculated to 154.5dB.

A Study of the Construction in order to 24/25 I-NRZI Modulator Designs for DVCR (DVCR용 24/25 I-NRZI 변조기의 설계를 위한 구조 고찰)

  • This paper considers the consturction of 24/25 I-NRZI (Interleaved - Non Return to Zero Inverse) modulator designs for DVCR (Digital Video Cassette Recorder), and size of validity bit in order to store the amplitude value of square-wave and the standard data ( sine and cosine coefficients) at ROM Table that to acceptable the spectrum standard. The validity bit size of the standard data and the amplitude value of square-wave that to store at ROM Table are affected the size of pilot signal on the output spectrum, and the hardware size of modulator. At the designable 24/25 I-NRZI modulator, we simulated using random pattern (F0,F1,F2) that to verification the output data of the spectrum. Moreover, the resultant of the spectrum analysis, at the optimizing value, is 0.065 on the amplitude value of square-wave, and 3bit on the size of bit in order to store the standared data at ROM Table. In order to verify the hardware of designable 24/25 I-NRZI modulator, we perform to modeling of C-language firstly, and coding to Verilog HDL (Cadence Verilog XL) and synthesized using Synopsys (Library "Samsung KG75") tool as a base of spectrum results. In a foundation of this result, we are considered the size of hardware. In this paper, a considerable 24/25 I-NRZI modulator designable less than 10,000 gates as that is improved consturction as regards the path method of pre-coder etc, and able to application digital camcorders as now practical use.

A Dual-channel Receiver for Spintronics Oscillator Array (Spintronics 발진기 어레이에 적합한 듀얼채널 수신기)

  • The spin modulation is proposed with modulating frequency and amplitude simultaeously, and realized with the array sturcture easily located due to the nanometer size of the spintronics oscillator. In this paper, the dual-channel receiver is deisgned for detecting the spin modulated signal. Resultly, we confirmed the dual-channel recevier well detected the data sent through the spintronics oscillator array, and processed up to 200 kbps on each channel. Distance is limited up to 1 cm due to the low level signal under -60 dBm. The realized dual-channel receiver has the size of $56{\times}33mm^2$.

  • Chaotic OOK modulation method can be used in LDR(Low Data Rate) UWB systems. In this paper, UWB chaotic-OOK transmitter system is designed and verified using TSMC 0.18 um CMOS process. A transmitter system is composed of Quasi-chaotic signal generator, OOK Modulator, and driving amplifier. The traditional chaotic signal generators using analog feedback method is weak to process variation. In order to solve this problem, a quasi-chaotic signal generator using digital feedback technique is get wide band signal and OOK Modulator using T-type switching structure is used to enhance the isolation characteristic. A driving amplifier has differential to single structure to avoid an external balun for low cost communication. The measured output power spectrum of the transmitter meet the FCC regulation and the result of the modulation test at data rate of 20 Kbps, 200 Kbps, 2 Mbps, and 10 Mbps is conformed to LDR UWB system. It is shown that the transmitter in this paper can be used for the UWB chaotic-OOK system.

  • The 12-Channe1 TDM/FDM translator is proposed which uses a periodically varying digital filter and the multiplexing weaver modulators. The general 12-Channel TDM/FDM translator using the Weaver modulators requires 24 interpolating FIR(finite impulse response) filters and 24 sinusoidal modulators, however the TDM/FDM translator proposed in this paper consists of one interpolating periodically varying digital filter and 12 sinusoidal modulators. The results obtained in this paper show that the system is simplified and the computation time is reduced. These facts are verified by the computer simulation.

  • Several new modulators using Voltage Variable Capacitance Diode are discribed. It was investigated that amplitude modulation which does not need modulation power is obtained by mdulation VVC diode as a tuning element of the quartz oscillator circuit. It offers a good AM system for carryphones in the citizen bands. While frequency modulated quartz oscillators coupled with a quarter wave network were tested as a wide band frequency modulator, Hartley type transistor oscillator offers the most stable and reproducibel FM quartz oscillator.

A Study on the Adaptive OFDM System for Multimedia Communications (멀티미디어 통신을 위한 적응형 OFDM 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 Matlab Tool을 이용하여 적응변조 OFDM 시스템 GUI 시뮬레이터를 설계하였다. 설계된 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 적응변조 기법을 위한 채널 추정 알고리즘과 무선 채널환경에서 시스템에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 추정된 결과를 이용하여 적응형 등화기를 적용한 적응변조 OFDM 시스템의 성능을 BER과 성좌도를 통하여 분석한다. 분석결과, 기존의 고정된 변조 방식을 사용하는 시스템인 경우 고속의 데이터 전송을 위해 높은 지수의 변조모드(64QAM)를 사용함으로써 채널 환경에 민감하게 심볼오류 발생률이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 채널상태에 따라 가변을 취하는 적응변조 OFDM 시스템의 경우 64QAM방식에 비해 (BER=$10^{-2}$)를 기준으로 약 8dB 성능의 이득이 있음을 알 수 있고 적응형 등화기를 적용함에 따라 왜곡을 받은 신호 파형의 보상이 가능함을 알 수 있다. 무수한 장애의 요인을 갖은 무선 채널환경에서 효율적인 데이터 전송을 위해 적응변조시스템이 요구되어짐을 알 수 있었다.

Optical-waveguide Phase Modulators Based on High-refractive-index Fluorinated Polyimide (고굴절률 불화폴리이미드를 이용한 광도파로 위상변조기 제작 및 특성 분석)

  • Fluorinated polyimide has excellent light transmittance and a high optical refractive index, and is useful for producing optical-waveguide phase modulators with low optical loss and low electric power consumption. In this work, an optical-waveguide phase modulator is designed and fabricated based on a high-refractive-index fluorinated polyimide, and its characteristics are measured. An efficient protocol for characterizing the loss components of the optical waveguide is proposed, and the propagation loss of the fabricated polyimide optical waveguide is confirmed to be 0.9 dB/cm. The phase modulator requires 9.1 mW of power for phase change of π, and the response time is 290 μs, which is improved by tenfold compared to a previous demonstration of polymeric phase modulators.

Performance Comparison of Differential Distributed Cooperative Networks with Modulation Scheme and Relay Location (변조방식 및 중계기 위치를 고려한 차등 분산 협력 네트워크의 성능비교)

  • Cooperative networks provides the benefits of performance improvements and capacity increment when the source node transmits signal to the destination node using several relay nodes. In this paper, we consider the cooperative network where the transmission scheme between the source node and relay node use conventional binary signaling, whereas the transmission scheme between thee relay node and destination node adopt the differential space time coding signaling. We analyze the performance of the system depending on the modulation scheme, i.e., coherent and differential modulation, at the source-relay links. The performance depending on the relay location is also compared by considering modulation scheme and the number of relay node.
