Embodiment in Digital Animation in Relation to Media Aesthetics (디지털 애니메이션 체현에 관한 매체미학적 고찰)

  • The environment of images in VR-based animation is constructed to generate and promote interactivity between the images and the viewer without any physical space like a screen, or a monitor. In this process, the images and the viewer are combined as a complex through the media technology, that is, an interface. And it is far more in the case of the animation consisted of the bio-feedback interface closely connecting with the body of viewer. As a result, the viewer experiences a permeable interaction between ego and images world, namely virtual reality. That is different from the way of seeing and interpreting the images from a distance. So it needs to analyse the perception of viewer in the world of virtual images. This paper examines the complex phenomena of both the VR-based animation and the viewer mediated by the interface in light of Media Aesthetics. Media Aesthetics is effective in analysing the phenomena of VR-based animation, for it is concerned with the perception of viewer mediated by the media technology. The perception in VR-based animation is a full-body immersion, or embodied immersion, and it is different from the contemplative immersion in that it is remediated continuously by the technological apparatus. The viewer as an immersant, especially with a bio-feedback interface, can immediately touch and control the images in VR-based animation. Such an immersion, therefore, is new every single moment. And the world of VR-based animation is ultimately constructed through the viewer's full-body, or embodied immersion crossing between the virtual and the real. So the animation is not interpreted, but embodied. And the meaning of it is constructed and reconstructed by the viewer's embodied immersion as an immersant. Here, a new frame of animation more oriented to the viewer's participation as an full-body immersant can be created.

Effects of IT-related Household Demand Characteristics on DTV Adoption: An Empirical Analysis Using Micro Data (가구의 정보통신수용도가 DTV 구매에 미치는 영향 micro data를 이용한 실증연구)

  • This paper empirically analyzes determinants of DTV (Digital Television) adoption in household survey data with IT-related household demand characteristics. To this purpose, we conducted a survey for the adoption of DTV to 1,000 households nationwide. In the questionnaire, various questions asking socio-economics characteristics such as age, education, income were included. Also, status of adoption and usage of IT services such as paid broadcasting, internet, and DVD were asked. To analyze the determinants of intention of purchasing, decision of purchasing, and the timing of purchasing DTV, we adopted the ordered logit, binary logit and multinomial legit models. When there is an order among groups, ordered logit was employed and when there is no orders among groups, multinomial logit was emplyed for the estimation. It is found that when conditions of other explanatory variable are constant, the more educated household heads are, the more probable they become early adopters of DTV. It is also found that other conditions being constant, the income level of households and IT-related household demand characteristics are very important factors affecting DTV adoption. Since the likelihood of purchasing DTV is much higher for those who know the government policy of analog broadcasting termination schedule than others who do not know, dissemination of the Korean government's digital broadcasting policy will affect significantly the adoption of DTV. And policy with various incentives ought to be employed to accelerate DTV adoption, because households with the older TV sets are more likely to purchase DTV. It is suggested that the Korean government should develop policy to connect both DBS (Direct Broadcast Satellite) and DTV since DBS subscribers are more likely to be an early adopter than non-subscribers.

  • 디지털 기술의 발달과 급진적인 IT 산업의 발전은 환경적 인프라의 통합 및 구축을 촉진시켰으며, 이를 기반으로 한 모바일 기기들의 기술적 통합 (Technology Convergence)을 통하여 테크노매드 (Technomad)와 같은 이동성향을 가진 사용자들이 등장하기 시작하였다. 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스에 대한 사용자들의 니즈 (Needs)는 점차 증가추세를 보이고 있으나, 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스의 수요는 캐즘을 넘지 못하여 시장에서 성공적으로 진입하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스를 통해서 얻을 수 있는 디지털 서비스의 구축이 미비한 부분도 있기는 하지만, 만족스럽지 못한 사용성이나, 기기의 도메인적 특성의 불명확함은 기술이나 성능의 수용 민감도가 높은 선각수용자 (Early Adopter)들의 사용에서만 그치게 하는 등의 한계점을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스의 개념과 도메인적 특성을 조사하고, 이를 통하여 사용 임계값 (Threshold)이 매스유저 (Mass User)가 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스를 사용하는데 진입장벽의 원인으로 작용하는 것을 발견하였다. 이러한 사용 임계값 (Threshold)이 실제 태스크 (Task)수행 시 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 휴리스틱과 선각수용자 (Early Adopter)의 웹 기반 조사를 실시하였고, 사용 임계값 (Threshold)의 영향으로 제대로 사용이 이루어지지 않는 태스크 타입 (Task Type)에 따라 시간적, 물리적 사용 임계값 관리 (Threshold Management)가 필요함을 발견하였다. 이를 개선하기 위해 실제 사용자들의 사용을 FGI (Focused Group Interview) 및 Contextual Inquiry 등의 정성적인 사용자 조사방법을 실시하여, 사용자에게 모바일 컨버전스 디바이스를 통하여 만족스런 사용성 및 경험을 제공하기 위해서는 시간적, 물리적, 시야적 사용 임계값 관리 (Threshold Management)를 개선 해야 함을 밝혀내고 결론적으로 이에 대한 가이드라인을 도출하였다.

Examining Factors Influencing the Intention to Use Mobile Payment: Focusing on Self-Construal (모바일 간편결제 이용의도에 미치는 영향요인에 관한 연구: 자기해석의 조절적 역할을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of variables of TAM, user characteristics variables, and perceived risk variables on the intention to use mobile payment. Through the combination of characteristics of mobile payment, this study also investigated the effect of various independent variables on the intention to use mobile payment including the moderating effect of self-construal. To verify hypotheses of this study, the hierarchical regression analysis based on responses from 188 undergraduate and graduate students was conducted. The significant findings of this study were as follows: TAM variables, user characteristics variables and perceived risk variables had positive influence on the intention to use mobile payment. Self-construal was found to moderate the effect of the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and subjective norm. This study may provide important implications for both academicians and practitioners.

  • This study is for looking into Factors affecting the Intention of using about Fitness Tracker based on IoT by Flow Theory and UTAUT Model. The independent variables of the IoT-based fitness tracker have been selected as Challenge, Skill Factors used in the Flow experience theory and selected the personal characteristics of health perception, enjoyment, Social Influence, and Facilitating Conditions. In addition UTAUT theory was used as parameter of Performance Expectancy and Effort Expectancy and intention of Use behavior was selected as a dependent variable. For verifying research hypothesis, This study collected 126 surveys data and carried out a statistical analysis by Smart PLS. The result shows that new Flow Experience and Personal Characteristic Factors with key variables in the UTAUT Model affect significantly to Intention of using about Fitness Wearable environment based IoT.

  • Smart TV is expected to take the center stage of the recent "smartization" trend in IT and consumer electronics as it performs a hub for various smart IT devices, such as smart phone, smart pad, PC, etc. It is distinct from traditional TVs or even IPTVs in the sense that it provides immersive and interactive experiences via apps downloaded through TV app store. Smart TV could serve as a new intermediary device between other smart devices and the Internet. While it started experiencing a rapid growth, little research has been conducted to understand this emerging technology in terms of its user acceptance and adoption by users. The current research attempts to fill the gap in the field by examining factors and processes for this new technology to be adopted by users. This paper draws on theories of IT acceptance and use, such as the "Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology", to investigate factors affecting "intention to use" of smart TV. The proposed research model is analyzed using the structural equation modeling approach. Findings show that such factors as innovativeness, switching cost, switching benefit, service interface, and user interface affect users' intention to use smart TV, through effort expectation, performance expectation, and social influence. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

Factors of Influencing on UHDTV Acceptance (UHDTV서비스 수용 요인 연구)

  • The goal of this study is to explore the factors that influence on intention to use UHDTV Service. Research problems has been designed to Structural equation model by Technology Acceptance Model. The Perceived quality, Price sensitivity, Innovativeness are adopted as independent variables. And Perceived usefulness, Perceived ease of use are adopted as intervening variables. A result of analysis, Perceived quality and Price sensitivity influenced the Intention to use via Perceived usefulness and Perceived ease of use. But in case of Innovativeness, it did not influence the Perceived usefulness while it influenced the Perceived ease of use. Meanwhile, the influence of Perceived quality to Perceived usefulness had more impact than the other path between the other factors.

  • This study examined the factors affecting the intention to use the wearable device consumers and the factors that have positive effects on the intention to use the wearable device or the consumers who have not yet used the wearable device. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived usefulness, perceived usefulness, consumer individuality (individual innovation, self-efficacy, subjective norm) and wearable device characteristics (aesthetics, compatibility) of technology acceptance model (TAM). The results of the analysis are as follows. This study focused on the effect of consumers on the intention to use. (TPB) and Davis (1989) proposed technology acceptance model which is applied to various fields to predict the intention to use as it is proved validity and usefulness as a theory explaining various social behaviors. TAM) in order to examine the intention to use. In addition, we added consumer characteristics and variables related to product characteristics of wearable devices, which have not been studied much in previous studies.

An Empirical Study of Personalized Thumbnail Curation of Netflix (개인화된 썸네일 큐레이션 사용성 평가 -넷플릭스 사례를 통한 UX study-)

  • This study empirically analyzed the users' experiences with the Netflix thumbnail curation based on the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). According to the correlation analysis results, the higher the dependence on the thumbnails, the higher the satisfaction with the thumbnail curation. Both Perceived Informational Usefulness(PIU) and Perceived Ease of Use(PEOU) had correlations with the degree of satisfaction with the thumbnail curation. In particular, the factors of relevance in PEOU had the greatest impact on the degree of satisfaction and this result proved that the suitability factors of the thumbnails had significant correlations with the degree of satisfaction. The degree of satisfaction with the thumbnail curation also positively correlated with Netflix's overall degree of satisfaction and behavioral intention to use the Netflix. This study demonstrated the suitability of the TAM as a UX evaluation tool for the Netflix thumbnail curation.

A Study on the Use Factors of YouTube-based Home Training Content (유튜브 기반 홈 트레이닝 콘텐츠 이용요인에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined the factors that influence the use of YouTube-based home training contents by integrating and applying the technology acceptance model and health belief model. The main results are as follows. First of all, it was found that personal innovativeness had a positive (+) effect on perceived ease and perceived usefulness. Perceived susceptibility did not have a significant effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived benefit had a positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness. Finally, it was found that perceived ease had a positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness, Both perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness were found to have a positive (+) effect on continuous intention to use. This study will be meaningful in that it partially reconfirmed the possibility of integrating the technology acceptance model and the health belief model.
